In 1998, '99, DOOM was supposed to get the movie treatment with Todd MacFarlane, producing, and producing the action figures through his company. However, one thing you seem to have forgotten happened on April 20th of 1999. The Columbine High School Massacre. After the two students decided to mow down their fellow classmates. In the aftermath, the music of Maryline Manson, violent movies, and video games. With DOOM firmly in the crosshairs of politicians and the media as being the driving force behind the S.O.B.S. killing spree. The game's satanic imagery was was also pointed to as another reason for the students' bloody rampage. Not surprisingly the talk of the movie went out the window. And seeing how the movie totally took out any references to demons, satanic imagery. Any possible reference to Detroit. And went with genetic engineering, and a rather generic setting for the setting in order not to connect to Columbine Massacre.

I kind of like it. Not a gamer, so I had no expectations. I like the actors. Most characters have someone to make them memorable. I was watching an Agatha Christie adaptation and one of the actors was oddly familiar. It took me a few seconds to realize it was Goat (I didn't remember the name but I remembered the character).

I quite liked the film, but i felt like it was inspired by the games not based on them, i feel like Doom 2016 however, was a better depiction of the doom story in a cinematic storyline, with a focus on gameplay, with the fist of the doom slayer saying everything that needs to be said.

I think I might be in minority but I like this movie a lot It's flawed? It is It's hella good and entertainment assured? YES I can watch it again and again Urban is so cool, he always is a pleasure to see, he make his character with depth even of there's not much to work with And Dwayne surprised me, because here's where I started to like him He's actually a good actor This is one pretty good movie for me But, you know, there's a flavor for every taste

It’s Hollywood leave it to them to screw up a story that is already written for them. I’m sure it was because somebody was trying to push an agenda. I didn't love it, but I wouldn't lump Doom in with the many video game movie utter failures. It's still entertaining enough that I'll put it on every couple of years...and boy, is it ever shocking to see how tiny the Rock looked back then compared to how absurdly jacked he's gotten over the years!

By the time Doom came out, all I wanted from a video game adaptation was that it’s fun to watch. I knew video game movies were never gonna be good (special thanks to Uwe Boll). So I enjoyed Doom in the theater. I still watch it from time to time. It sucks, it’s corny, it’s dumb, but it was fun. And let’s face it, the real take away is that Karl Urban deserves a successful nerdy franchise that’s entirely about him. He’s been screwed over way too many times.

This is admittedly a guilty pleasure movie for me. I think it gets a lot of hate due to how much it deters from the source material but if you can get over the fact it's a videogame adaptation and just watch it as a B science fiction action movie there's definitely some fun to be had and come on this movie gave us the Rock vs Karl Urban!
@Mrey23Ай бұрын
I have to be honest, when I watched it in the theatre back when it was first released, I remember going in with zero expectations, and I think that is reason why I still enjoy watching this movie, because for what its worth, I think it is still telling an interesting story. Sure, they could have presented everything better, but I prefer to appreciate what we did get. On another note: Imagine if they attempted to make a Doom movie in the early 90s when the game itself was released, now THAT would have been a terrible watch... probably a Troma picture haha

I remember going to see this in theaters. The only time the audience banded together and enjoyed the film was the 1st person segment. The crowd actually cheered as most of us were DOOM players. But when it ended, all I remembering hearing was the disappointment. The script pays no respect to the source material, and it doesn't resepct the fans. Performances are phoned in, but I still enjoy the 1st person segment for what it is and what it attempted. I still wonder what the whole film would have been if it was all in 1st person perspective, but like most game adaptions, you kind of know what to expect. They tried to sell this movie based on the franchise name alone and because it has The Rock, but honestly, I still don't believe The Rock is a great actor and this is not DOOM to me. Its DOOM in Name Only.

I love doom, The unrated edition is great,the theatrical is the dumbest theatrical release I’ve ever seen for a film(it would also seem that universal agrees as the film is only ever to my knowledge available physically in the unrated extended edition version),it’s missing its visual continuity. I think if they had released the unrated edition in theaters the film might have been a bigger success to the likes of resident evil(2002),I personally unlike the sequels to resident evil feel that sequels to this version of doom would have been more acceptable since none of the resident evil sequels come even close to the 2002 film(it’s a 10/10 experience),not even rain ocampos cloned return in retribution. The theatrical versions editing is what happens when someone takes a film like aliens(1986-1990) and decides to edit out more then 17 minutes of footage,in the process harming the overall film (for no reason as some films are meant to be 1 hour 45 minutes or longer). Also the 2005 doom soundtrack/score is 10/10. Lastly I personally feel that if universal combined doom(2005) with doom annihilation(2019) that we’d have a pretty awesome movie(the budget,cast,music,effects and creature design of doom with the hell,space marines,moon setting and green(actually used on more then walls) colored BFG weapon).
