Trillions of dollars are spent every year on these programs. End result is a marginal change in the poverty numbers. Now imagine all that money remaining in the hands of the working people instead of going into government waste.

I think in the future, we will look at these programs differently. The US attains an incomprehensible amount of debt every year, and I think that it will someday catch up to us. Of course, spending trillions on aid for those in poverty isn't the only reason for the US's rapidly growing debt. We spend a trillion on the military every year. Also, social security is a failed system. The deductions from my payroll that will go to social security are already spent. I am not paying for my own social security, I am paying for the social security of my grandparents and my grandchildren will be paying for my social security.

The other branches are following suit. People have been screaming about these social programs all the way when Daniel Boone was in Congress. There is a famous story about Daniel Boone meeting a constituent that refused to fund or vote for him again. Why? Boone voted $25k to help rebuild a community. The voter said "if you aren't willing to pay for it out of your pocket then why is it ok for you to vote it out of mine"

It took black men out of the homes. If a family received welfare benefits they could not receive them if a man was in the home. They would send social workers around at the first of the month to check if a man was staying there. It was a policy put in place by Johnson and the democratic party.
