What were the Zoot Suit Riots?

Please correct me if I'm wrong, but, the zootsuit riots took place because, as American soldiers were dying overseas, fighting for the freedoms of. Americans, zootsuiters were running around town without a care of the war. I'm Mexican American, born in Mexico. I'm just trying to understand the truth, and not what a biased source tellsme. Still, I denounce any sort of violence with culture differences.

It was more about how people perceived younger minorities who were not serving in the war and wearing outfits that somewhat flaunted the conservation efforts of the war. All those things mixed with racism and prejudice led to the attacks on young Mexican and African Americans by US servicemen and the general public.
