Adding a fight for the Star on Star Road or moving the star would be a good place to shake things up for the story. It alway struck me as strange that they just gave you a free Star without any Boss fights or battles.

After watching SuperMallow's analysis video, I'm convinced that the final scene in the trailer is from Star Hill, but they edited it to have a white void so as not to show anything. The star they get is a pink/purple colour, and the star on Star Hill in the original is purple. A large chunk of the unused assets in the original are also from Star Hill, so it feels like they might actually be making Star Hill bigger and more involved, including a boss! Just speculation, but I really hope for that.

The official logic the developers gave for it was that since the player had done so much between Booster Tower and Marymore, they essentially earned a star.

To be fair, you do fight a couple of bosses before getting to Star Hill (Knife/Grate Guy in Booster's Tower, Bundt in Marrymore) so they probably just wanted to give players a break.

Agreed, it was kinda cruel to do that, keeping you from getting 100%. Granted, getting all the hidden treasure chests doesn't give you a reward, except the Chester in Monstro Town saying he's impressed.

Along with the Arwing are a couple of vehicles from F-Zero, most notedly the Blue Falcon. I played just a little bit of SMRPG on my SNES mini, and I have the Switch remake pre ordered. I love Paper Mario and also enjoy Mario and Luigi, so I'm giving SMRPG a shot.

I can't believe you didn't speak about the new circle gauge from the remake's battles. There are theories saying it may be for Limit Breaks and/or Team Attacks but I think it will just upgrade the new chain thing (the remake also has the new splash damage function when Mario uses the NokNok Shell on the Guerrilla and then the Wiggler also loses HP)

I had no idea about the armor designs. It certainly would be awesome being able to switch styles. Unlikely...but...who knows? What I'd personally love to see, though I'm not particularlily hopeful, would be an extra dungeon, with a superboss (much harder than Culex ofc). Also wish the Casino had more games and rewards XD. In any case, even if the game is exactly the same with no extras it'll still be a treat.

You can face against Culex anytime you want. He's a secret Boss for a reason. Plus you don't really need to fight him but the boss is pretty hard if you don't prepare. And you don't need the Supersuit to fight him.

I beat Culex without the super suit. The reward was kinda lame. Also, I think Nintendo will add new things to the remake because they must have not included everything they wanted because of the SNES cart limitations.

Too this DAY I could never do 100 super jumps so I can't even get the Super Suit I also could NOT easily do the jumps in other to get the rare scarf from that 1 chest that you can get AFTER you beat the Parana Plant boss but BEFORE you reach Nimbus Land itself.

I can see Square Enix adding like a new phase for Smithy for a boss fight and if Nintendo decides play ball have more cameo and/or to mario world like Geno talk about a higher power people theorize that he could be talk about the star sprite or Rosalina. I know Chihiro Fujioka (super Mario director) want to make a definitive sequel to super mario rpg before retirement so if successful he might get his wish.

Definitely enjoyed spotting cameos in the game, like around 3:10 with the arwing from star fox, as well as Captain Falcon and Samurai Goroh's machines from F Zero. I have a feeling at least the base stuff will be there, hopefully with not too many adjustments. Definitely would like to see how Culex is in the game. I'm actually kinda curious if they could/would add something to star road too, as it wasn't too big in the original anyways As for costumes, I wouldn't mind seeing those in game, as well as maybe a cosmetic layer for possible having a different look, but with the better stats. Just an idea though. New items would be neat aswell, as long as they don't break the game or anything imo, haha

I hope the party members get a bit of rebalancing. You have little reason to really have Mallow and Bowser on your team, especially late in the game. Peach outclasses Mallow in every way when it comes to healing (and is unstoppable once you give her the Lazy Shell) and Bowser is just way too slow and his specials are pretty lackluster. One thing I see most likely getting cut (or at least replaced with something else) is Grate Guy's Casino. Much like the Pokémon games removing their Game Corners it seems like the ratings board PEGI in Europe bumps up the age rating of a game to 18+ if it features gambling so either Grate Guy's Casino will be replaced with something else entirely or Europe would be cut off from accessing it.

@PrinceMallow Totally! really needs balancing. I want Mallow in my party all the way through the end game. Oh that's interesting I didn't know that about Europe's rating system. Maybe it'll just be slightly altered like "Grate guy's...game of winning...or losing?" and change the casino table into a reception desk lol.

I kept Bowser NOT for his crappy special its just that towards the end of the game ALL special attacks that aren't from Peach and h her Healing/Revive spell I find to be all worthless so I used PHYSICAL hits for the rest of the game until bosses die from those.

@@veghesther3204 Geno's attack is pretty much on par and his speed and special are way higher. Bowser is pretty much only there for tanking.

Mallow should have the best special and is the only one that can heal and removed status effect at the same time. Bowser have a new passive that whenever enemy attack Bowser some damage are reflected back at the enemy and also his special should be about inflicting debuff (more consistent debuff) and yes his attack should be abit higher as well.

Totally agree with your points. I'm also curious about potential stat changes on the characters. Mallow gets outclassed as you progress and most people seemed to cut him from their party. Does he get some sort of buff to keep him relevant in the late game?

Nope he just get Lightning Shocker Snowy as attacks a Scan enemies for their current HP skill though most BOSSES are immune to THAT and a USELESS single Target healing spells that one is useless as soon as Peach first joins the party. In fact the ONLY buffing spells the original had in the ENTIRE game is Geno Boost but since Geno tends to SUCKS for the entire game I pretty much stopped using him after the required boss fight that he MUST be in the party for ie once you reached Boosters tower in the original I pretty much ditched Geno for in battle use then.

I had an idea for a farfetched easter egg, it works but farfetched. How about when Mario uses the Dream Cushion for the first time in Nimbus, he briefly dreams the events of Super Mario Bros 2, bit of a montage, but ends with Birdo using the soundbyte from the Advanced GBA port "This is as far as you go!" and then when you face Birdo in the castle, the first thing said out of the egg is "This is as far as you go!"

I just hope they fix the monstro town NPC that tells you how many secret hidden chests you have because there was a glitch or a missing chest and you could not get all of them which was making it impossible to actually 100% the original

I never tried to get all of them but I did get down to single digits, are you counting the 1 hidden chest that you get one chance early on to get in the castle but is basically impossible the rest of the game if you miss it?

Culex is very beatable without the Super Suit. I can attest to it, having beaten that boss on several playthroughs. He is a tough one though. As for little things I'd like to see.... I definitely want to see Samus' cameo and I think it would be neat if they changed her line to "I'm resting up for Metroid Prime 4." Also, they gotta keep "Toadstool's ???" Would they remove it? I dunno, honestly. It's only dirty if you think it is. It's completely open to interpretation, which is what makes it memorable. It would be a shame to lose it. Speaking of Culex before, I expect they'll keep him but I would be very disappointed if they changed his music. The boss music from Final Fantasy IV is a favorite of mine.

You can totally beat Culex just by popping Red Essence and spamming Fire/Ice Bombs and Rock Candy. The real challenge is to beat him without that OP stuff

I tried that AT max lv 30 and I STILL had to be that cheap else you still won't survive 5 ATTACKS EVERY turn while the 4 Crystals are still alive but theirs NOT enough Red Essence items in the entire game and I believe those are NOT buyable AT all.

Culex is able to take away your Red Essence effect, but it's random.

@Daxle: since the special move of super jump is map to y button so the time hit would only work by pressing Y not A, you might have address that error of thinking in part 2 but I don't know.

I need more then Super Mario RPG plus better graphics and voice acting and better music. My suggestion is to turn the Culex fight into a secret bonus dungeon with Culex in the end. Use the new tech of the Switch to make something that would never have worked in 1996.

Great video! I'm really hoping for the visual armour as well. I'm also holding out a bit of hope for a boss in Star Hill (that star was always too easy!) and maaaybe an optional secret party member like Luigi or Croco. There's also a ton of beta content that was cut. Extra scenes, areas, battle backgrounds, monsters, etc. One shot even includes Luigi in Nimbus Land. Would be really nice to see some of that fleshed out here to freshen the game up for the old fans.

I'm going to echo something I saw posted in another video... in the final cut scene of the trailer, the star piece we see is a pink star piece. ...there was never a pink star piece in the original game. Which leads to to one of three conclusions: 1. One of the star pieces was re-colored to pink 2. Previously cut content from Star Hill area is being used (Star Hill boss? YES PLEASE) 3. New Star Pieces in the game! The "Legend of the 7 Stars" subtitle has been dropped (to be more in line with the Japanese title of just "Super Mario RPG" for a worldwide release)

Now that I think about it, Hinopio makes sense in his flame mushroom hat design as Hino means Fire/Sun field and he’s in a volcano. 🤔. (For reference, Toad’s Japanese name is Kinopio and Kinoko means mushroom in Japanese)

My bet is that very, very little will be changed from the original. Seeing the preservation of the art style, camera angles, etc. tells me the developers seem to think the original game is basically perfect, and just needs a fresh coat of paint. I believe Nintendo's more recent remakes, Pokemon Diamond/Pearl and Link's Awakening were also very true to the originals. Especially Pokemon. While there's something to be said for that philosophy, I wouldn't hold my breath for any extra content.

​@@jonahabenhaim1223 Not really. The original is great. Paying $60 to update the sound and visuals of a game that actually still looks decent just and sounds great is just blah. If I'm going to pay full price for a remake, I want it to be a game I've never played before, or a substantial improvement over the original, with major quality of life improvements, and potentially substantially updated gameplay. Metroid Zero Mission, Resident Evil 1/2/3, Pokemon Heart Gold/Soul Silver. Super Mario RPG falls in the category of game that frankly... doesn't need that type of treatment. The visuals and sound hold up shockingly well for their age. The battle UI is actually more streamlined than most modern RPGs , so it doesn't need major quality of life improvements (Trails of Cold Steel 3 and 4 took some recent inspiration from it.) The gameplay, while kind of bland, doesn't have an obvious evolution in modern gaming. So a remake would either need to stay true to the original, or be drastically different. And the original gameplay functions well enough that it's best not to depart drastically imo. Ultimately, Super Mario RPG has little room for improvement. The dev team is treating the remake right. But it's not priced right. It was $50 almost 30 years ago. 15 years ago, it was an $8 download. And now Nintendo's asking for $60 for applying a fresh coat of paint. $30, I might consider it. But $60 is obscene for a fresh coat of paint on a game that can get by without it.

Back then Square would usually throw in an additional dungeon or two with their remakes and sometimes even a new party member. But that could all be up in the air since the Final Fantasy Pixel Remasters were pretty much 1 to 1 remakes in terms of content. As in not even the additional dungeons that were added in the GBA releases of some of those games were included. So that might be the case with Super Mario RPG. Im honestly fine if that's the case since just the fact that were getting this game remade in the first place is a miracle in itself. Don't get me wrong if they decide to surprise us with additional content ill definitely be happy.

Captain Falcon not happy with ya at 3:17..calling his Blue Falcon a Starfox ship :S....... not sure which game is the red one from though...... also.....i wanna travel to Smithy planet for additional content :3..Belome temple expansion(secret area for end-game to explore) darker themed(like deep in its all ruins & water fill).... then some whole new areas unrelated to existing areas.....cosmetics would certainly be nice....gimme me a bowser with a blue or silver shell with lightning effect........... Geno with a black version of his clothes..... Mallow Cloud Skin which would change base on his special attacks(watery blue body....yellow gas like body...... Black cloud body).....Mario...customizable color flames balls........ i suppose other clothes color for peach just like for Geno ?(dont rly have any good idea for those 2 XD)..........umm....maybe some way to recruit the Axem Rangers after defeating smithy ?

Coolix is easy dude. Just give peach/toadstool the secret armor from the shy guy bean stalk. She becomes nye invisible. Bring a bunch of pick me ups and flow point restoring items. An let peach be the tank healer. Eventually you will win.

Aww yeah mario rpg hype is still high for me I still watch the trailer I really love your idea for the smrpg sprite that would be way cooler so I hope that happens Lol yes beeg yoshi (I think Japanese website said the more you do perfect time hit chains go higher and the ! @Daxle I have it on snes wii and wii u I coul never get my hands on a classic they always sold out lol but hey wii u has a save state feature lol practice makes perfect Also my snes cart I think it was haunted or creepy pasta I think is correct term it did stuff that is impossible I want to make a video of it one day by useing horrible editing skills to show what happend I'll give some crazy examples Start of the game on mushroom way fought a Goomba yet it wasn't a Goomba in battle it was the flying pig monster with wings you fight in the mines one shot me of course another example I started a battle not far at bandits way mario and mallow started poison it was mallow turn and the enemy attacked mallow I need to find the snes cart see if does crazy things still if I ever caught those on video man cuz seeing is believing

Culex isn’t that hard, and I’ve never gotten the super suit, just make sure to put the Lazy Shell on Peach, she’ll stay alive and keep the rest of the party alive too

There was one thing in the trailer that piqued my interest for new/future content. That's right... the Koopa clown car. Why? Because Super Mario RPG with an airship sounds dope af. Forget that cruddy royal bus. It would make more sense to recover the clown car. If we can freely move on the world map then who knows what we might uncover?

Culex...difficult?!? Nah...he was always easier than Smithy for me!!! To fight and win against Culex...find the Lazy Shell Armor and equip it on Toadstool. She is now the tank that keeps the other fighters healed!!!! The fight may last a while, but the gems and Culex will eventually run out of flower points. Then they're just punching bags.
