At 49, it is interesting to see how much some things have changes in terms of technology at least. I mean, I was in 3rd grade when my elementary school got its first computers...1 per classroom that we all had to share time on...By the tme I was in 6th grade, our junior high had an entire dedicated computer center with like 50 computers in it so each student had their own machine during class. By the time I was in college it was becoming increasingly common for people to have computers in their home and access to the internet...now we all walk around with computers in our pocket that do everything a big PC used to do and weigh what, not even 1 pound! Cars may not fly yet but they are beginning to drive themselves!...computer interfaces have gone from keyboards to mouses to touchscreen to voice/speech recognition just in the time since I graduated from college. Yet, on a sociological level, humanity has changed very little really. In fact, so many people are desperately trying to turn back the clock and cling desperately to the ignorace and prejudices of bygone ages....it really puts a dark cloud over everything we claim to have "achieved" during my lifetime.

When we talk about clean energy, we always talk about wind and solar energy, never about the Nuclear Power Plant. But why? Nuclear Power is definitely the safest and most efficient energy production we have right now! If we use Thorium instead of Uranium, no government can create nuclear bombs out of it, plus, Thorium is much more abundant than Uranium. And the fact that the Nuclear Power Plant is less radioactive than a banana or flying on a plane is a better alternative compared to the Coal Power Plant, which emits more radiation and Carbon Dioxide. This is all thanks to the radiation protection of the Nuclear Power Plant.

15:40 Three? More like anywhere between 10 to 30; English, Spanish, Mandarin, Russian, Arabic, German, French, Italian, Hebrew, Afrikaans, Creole, Portuguese, Romanian, Tagalog, Turkish, Dutch, Danish, Polish, Swedish, Punjabi, Swahili, Thai, Korean, Vietnamese, Indonesian, Bengali, Japanese, Urdu and Greek are going to still be spoken. But I doubt most of these will be as common, as most people will speak English, Spanish, Mandarin, Arabic, French, German, Japanese, Italian, Afrikaans, Korean, Hindi/Punjabi, Creole and/or Portuguese. 90+% of people will speak English no matter what other language they speak, and 100% will at least speak one of the following languages: English, Spanish, French, Arabic, Portuguese or Mandarin. Perhaps one of the Indian languages, Japanese, Korean and another African language, will still be somewhat common enough to hear every now and then on the street. The others will probably be more rare unless you visit specific countries or run into specific communities (IE Chinatown, Greektown, Little Italy, etc.). Most people will speak one or several of the main 3 languages, but the other ones won't be gone entirely nor remain as "dead tongues". That would rather be in perhaps 300-500 years. And that's all assuming the current trend of globalization keeps up and we don't run into a global catastrophe.

As a New Yorker, it is hard to imagine a 1.5 to 2 degree temperature rise can really be that big of a deal. I mean, around here for 6 months of the year it is at or below freezing nearly every day so, 2 degrees warmer and it is still going to be ridiculously cold mot of the year....Spring/fall Temps usually average around the upper 60's to low 70's...still not incredibly warm so again an extra couple degrees is only ging to leave it in the range of what is typically considered "room temperature....summer temperatures average around the mid to high 80's, sometimes pushing into the 90's , so on the average again an extra 2 degrees isn't really going to make it all that unbearable...perhaps it might be different in big cities where you have larger thermal mass, like Manhatten, but in the smaller villages of the Finger Lakes region where I live for instance, most of the year I am wishing it was even just a couple degrees warmer. A couple of degrees doesn't really sound like as much of an impending emergency as it is being made out to be.
@williamcervoni2659Ай бұрын
Personally, I would regard the increasing rise of global fascism to be a much greater impending disaster for humanity than a 2 degree temperature rise.
@williamcervoni2659Ай бұрын
Or, the fact that the madmen in charge of things suddenly find what was once considered "unthinkable", the threat of nuclear annihilation, to be a lot less "unthinkable" than it ever was before would seem to me a far greater impending disaster for humanity than a 2 degree temperature rise.
@williamcervoni2659Ай бұрын
I am all for protecting the environment, don't get me wrong, but I would consider the polluting of potable water supplies and the use of radioactive munitions by the military such as Depleted Uranium and the ecological threat from genetically modified foods for instance to be a far bigger threat to public health and safety than a 2 degree rise in average temperatures.

As our understanding of the universe progresses with time, mankind will have less and less use or need for an imaginary god (whichever one you believe in).

I love how everyone truly believes that the oceans are gonna rise! I’m 35 years old and I’ve been going to the same beaches since I was 4. Guess what the water is still at the same level it was when I was 4! If the oceans were truly gonna rise than no bank in the world would approve a loan to build a huge multimillion resort near the oceans, but guess what… they still approve of it bc they know that’s not gonna happen!!
