I think all life in the universe is kept restricted to their own planets purposefully. & even if we did make it to another planet, so many people would die before anyone was ever able to successfully "terraform." We think we know so much about space, but we don't actually know what we're up against or what we got correct as far as space theories. So we will only be testing & reworking theories when we do manage to "leave our atmosphere"

I remember the moon landing. I was 7. Apollo 11, 12, 14, 15, 16 and 17 all landed successfully on the moon in a short period of time. It was almost routine. Had NASA kept up that momentum, we would have colonized the moon by now. We'd at least have some sort of mining or manufacturing facility on the moon.
