@ItsAsparageese4 жыл бұрын
My grandfather wrote The Man From Earth. I was hoping to see a reference in the comments, thanks for making my day :) It's really cool seeing a lot of the themes he raised in sci-fi being explored in other mediums. His Trek episode "Requiem for Methuselah" is another earlier instance of him visiting this same premise, in case anyone is curious to check that out.
4 жыл бұрын
Actually, it's 14000. I watched only 2 minutes of this video so far, and went to the comments thinking this would be the top one. I had to dig deeper. :( One of the best movies I ever saw, though I didn't read Bixby's book.

@@ItsAsparageese Nice to "meet" you! Didn't your father/uncle write The Man From Earth sequel?
@ItsAsparageese4 жыл бұрын
@ First, I'm obviously biased, and also biased toward the medium because short stories are my favorite -- but since you dug the film, I highly recommend Jerry's short stories, if you get a chance. "The Slizzers" is a particular favorite of mine (so creepy! So meta! Such a pure simple elegant example of my favorite elements in sci-fi/horror short stories!) and it's on Gutenberg. I'll grab a link
4 жыл бұрын
@@ItsAsparageese Thank you! I forgot to mention (though, I think this goes without saying), I feel honored to have this conversation with you. I've seen the movie a dozen times (at least), but I haven't found the book published in my country. I also read most of "mainstream" sci-fi and my favorites so far are Asimov's Empire-Robots-Foundation series (sorry if I mixed up the titles, I was reading it in my native language), Dan Simmons' "Hyperion" series and Clarke's "Childhood's End". I'll try to find an e-book of your grandfather's "The Man From Earth" (and also the short story you mentioned), and I will probably add them to the list. Edit: Forgot to say, I also love short sci-fi stories; while I love the format (short bursts of reading while waiting for bus, for example), they have also made me look for more "full-size" novels by the authors if I really liked them. I got a small library of 80's short stories sci-fi magazines that my parents collected. Edit 2: Found "The Slizzers" on gutenberg, thanks!

Ye but won’t You feel sad for life of bing immortal ur Friends died parents died grandmother grandpa aunt dad and mom haha junior everything I’m glad I’m human if I die and I did good things in my life and go to heaven I would be happy to see my dead parents and everything I did and worked on but I’m glad I’m human I wanna stay alive I don’t wanna die but I know I’m not immortal I’m glad god did this and Jesus because god created earth and made us so we all have our own opinions and everything but we all got to be happy that we can die because maybe on 800000000 years or many years all humans die but nobody knows how many years it’s just that you got to live ur life to the fullest and do many good things you can do

You just said you don't care about anything. That means you would not care about transcending to another plane of existence either.
