Several proposals have been put forward to end the conflict between Israel and Hamas with the U.S., Egypt and Qatar pushing to de-escalate in phases. But major sticking points about who should govern Gaza are blocking progress as Israel doesn’t want to govern and is against the top contender, the Palestinian Authority. So why is coming to a consensus for a ceasefire or peace deals so difficult?
WSJ looks at where the key players stand, and why they’re having trouble finding common ground.
Chapters:

2:30 Potential scenarios after the war
3:44 The Palestinian Authority
5:30 Why the current situation is so difficult

Enablers of genocide have a habit of contradicting themselves. Up until early December, the Israeli government was arguing that aid to Gaza would only enable terrorism, but now, Israeli officials are bragging about having supposedly allowed the 10,000th aid truck to enter Gaza. That translates to around 100 trucks per day since the war started, and given Gaza's population of 2 million, that's roughly 1 truck for every 20,000 people. So it's no wonder that basically everyone in Gaza is hungry at the moment. Israel isn't allowing fruits into Gaza, because they're afraid that the seeds from the fruits would be used to grow trees to produce more fruits. That says everything you need to know about them (the Israeli government and the 75% of Israeli people who support the war).

It’s difficult because Israel under current administration will never, ever give Palestinians statehood and self determination. They won’t annex Gaza and the West Bank because that means giving Arabs actual rights. And you can’t “persuade” those Arabs to leave.

That's not actually true, Israel & the UN offered Palestinians a state a number of times and they rejected it. Gaza was very independant (but walled in for security reasons) and Gaza still turned to terrorism for the goal of the Destruction of Israel, instead of peaceful coexistance. It's impossible to let ppl be free if they're higher goals are your destruction, no matter what you do. Because it is based on history & religion, not anything Israel can do.
@pebblepod30
@pebblepod30 4 ай бұрын
Logically, there cannot be peace if Gaza is in charge of its own security, because they are either unwilling of inable to control their Islamic Extremists who attack Israel. Currently, very single Middle Eastern country is allowed to do that except Israel. So Israel must be in charge of Gaza's security, but the UN could be in charge of the Law (to prevent abuse by Israeli security forces). And Gazans could have a democracy again too (except for Security issues, otherwise war guareenteed again).

@@pebblepod30 It's a cyclical problem where people end up getting radicalized as a response to Israeli oppression, which then leads to more oppression and more radicalization. Notwithstanding the fact that it's morally wrong to institute collective punishment on an entire population of people for an indefinite period, it's also completely infeasible as a long term solution. Palestinians do need full independence, but this could be achieved over a gradual period. Transfer security responsibility to a neutral third party and start investing in Palestine to raise the standard of living. When people aren't oppressed and they have good economic opportunities, groups like Hamas will start lacking a purpose and die out.
@shuki1
@shuki1 4 ай бұрын
@@MrBenenebthe Palestinians are not radicalized as a response to Israeli oppression rather due to Israel's existence, the 'occupation' since 1948. Palestinians openly declare that they cannot tolerate or accept Jewish/Zionist/Israeli rule on any part of the land they claim was unlawfully taken away from 'them'. This has nothing to do with oppression, the 'Palestinians' have a high standard of living compared to Muslims/Arabs living in other Arab/Muslim countries

🤢🤢🤮WSJ has shamelessly, yet again, ignored a pivotal moment in history that pushed both sides to be more extreme 👉The assassination of Yitzhak Rabin, the fifth prime minister of Israel in November 1995. The assailant was Yigal Amir, an Israeli law student and ultranationalist who radically opposed peace initiative, particularly the signing of the Oslo Accords.
