I own a 800DE. Fantastic bike. More HP then they claim för sure. Super gentle in low speed, Great balance and doesnt feel as heavy as it actually is. A lot of power in middle register. Great seat. No problem riding many hours. Super smooth quickshifter. Best screen for sure and easy to change settings for ride modes and ABS etc. Looks a lot cooler IRL then fotos for sure 😊

Go for the 800DE. I'll take Suzuki's reliability any day! I have one and love it, and I am not concerned about it starting or any other breakdowns. Fixing a flat is nothing compared to a no-start or breakdown in the middle of nowhere! Just as important, I'd far rather support Japan over the Chinese. And the Royal Enfield isn't anywhere near the 800DE's highway ability and comfort. Like comparing an Escape and a Mustang.

Added Veridian cruise control on my 800DE. So far its been a great bike...did a little exploring on Arizona Trails. Its still heavy, but that is advantage when slabbing windy roads or having semi pass you. Its only downfalls are poor headlights and you need a bigger aftermarket windshield. Cheers.

After having a lot of expensive ADV bikes, and every dual sport/enduro Im on a new KLR ADV and just happy about it. Theres far too many bro's with not a lot of experience that think they are too fancy for this bike until they ride one. Its the only bike I ever had that I dont want to stop riding. Instead of worrying about the latest/greatest, I now spend my $ on trips with it. Ya know....what u are suppose to be doing instead of bolting stuff on for a camera shoot.

I came close to getting a Africa Twin or a Suzuki 800DE. Either is a great bike. Was originally looking into a Himalayan 450, but I got tired of them dragging their feet getting it out to the dealers. Those were really the only two that peaked my interest. Ended up having a 99 Sportster dropped in my lap, so my search got short-circuitted. Took it to the dealer for service, and found a Heritage Classic. Held off, but they called and gave me a deal that I couldn't pass up. Now I am riding my X300 off road and the Harley on the street. I think I have the best of both worlds. Not afraid to ride the versys 1000 miles if there is dirt at the other end.

The Moto Guzzi Stelvio looks like a very interesting bike for me, would like to ride one. I love my 21' ATAS, got it as a second bike for my Goldwing. Have 27k miles on it now and its still doing great. Only complaints are the awful seat and the twitchy throttle. I've been through two Goldwings (17',23'), 23' R1250RT and now have a 24' GSA. Through all those I still kept the Africa Twin. BMW has the throttle on their bikes so smooth just wish Honda could do the same. Even the 23' Goldwing was really snatchy compared to the 17'. Most of my riding is two up touring and dirt and gravel roads so I need something with plenty of room for us and luggage. The BMW is more expensive and now due for my first vavle check at 12k but it's what I wanted and life is short so enjoy.

If I were you, I would go back to the Transalp, and add VMX tubeless wheels, Veridian cruise control, 2WDW ECU flash, and LSK Electronics off-road dongle. Love the AT base too, but I would manual and a quickshifter. And don’t forget to get the LSK Electronics off-road dongle. 👍🏼 I know people love the 800DE, but to me it is fat and ugly. Excited to see what you get!

I have been seriously shopping for my next bike for over a year. Finally (after November 5th went our way) I picked up ‘24 Africa Twin AS,ES,DCT. 500 miles so far, very very happy after three Goldwings in a row since 2010. The big Suzuki was a contender, but reports of the heat from the radiator on your shins was too much for me to risk, as that’s my least favorite trait in a motorcycle, be careful of that one!

I just bought the RE Himalayan 450. I certainly considered some of the same bikes, and I think there is a big overlap in our use cases. But I have less money to invest and less experience on different bikes. I wanted a daily rider that's off-road capable. I had an Africa Twin (2016 DCT), which was too much for me off-road. I traded in my CRF 250L, which lacked the distance and power for camping trips. I'm interested in how your Honda build goes.

I'm in Canada so we don't have the option of the base Africa twin with DCT or electronic suspension. We get the full-blown adventure sport or the base model manual. I think I'm going to buy the base model add a quick shifter and crash bars and some soft luggage (maybe a better wind screen) and call it a day. I will also be looking at a 300L or 300L rally version to ride with the kids on single track. I know Honda doesn't sell a crapload of Africa twins in Canada, but it would be nice to have the same options. At least that the US has and we could just order a bike from Honda and wait a few weeks or a month.

This is somewhat true but there may be an easy fix. I haven't tried it yet, but one owner rigged up a shield to keep the cat converter heat away from the right side, the hotter side. Just a small plate between the bash plate and the engine. He claims it made a difference. My concern was trapping the heat under the engine, but there still is a lot of ventilation around the cat with the plate. The heat shouldn't be a deal breaker to the average person anyway.

Consider the Suzuki 800 standard edition. Tubeless cast wheels, ready for a Veridian cruise... And its 10k. It wont do singletrack, but should handle a gravel road just fine. Or a Ducati Desert X. It will do everything you could ever need (except let you do your own maintenence on it). And geez... Just look at it. You can't buy a sexier ADV bike at any price.

@dwayneneufeld1696 agreed about the ownership aspect of Ducati (not the looks, you're dead wrong there). But realistically... I'm also considering the 25 AT DCT, but I was excited about ES. Problem is, I don't like the white, but you can only get the ATAS in white here. So, question for you: is the ES overrated? I'm tempted to go Versys 1100 SE and just forget about anything but flat dirt roads, since I have a dirt bike already anyway and like inline fours (and also out of spite against Honda for not offering the ATAS in red or black in the US, not to mention my local Honda dealer stocking mostly KTMs). I really like the idea of adaptable suspension damping, as the road conditions here in North Idaho can be...variable. But I've never ridden it and dealers around here are allergic to test rides, which also makes me want to never give them a dime. Anyway, is the ES not that important to you? Also, do you think there will ever be an aftermarket EERA system which can be installed on any bike?

I don't think you asked the question correctly. At first your video leads one to believe that you are asking what ADV bike might be best for you, but then you realize you are actually asking what bike your viewers want to watch you review. And you are all over the place in your sizes. And the Royal Enfield Himalayan isn't even an ADV bike - it's a dual sport. And three low performance bikes and one medium one. Does it matter that you already have a 300 and a 500? good luck
@adventureundone
@adventureundone 16 күн бұрын

@@adventureundone Since you disagree, question: what is an "Adventure" bike (with a capitol A) then? I'm not asking what bike you can have an adventure on (small a) - because one can have an adventure on any bike. But just because you can have an adventure on it doesn't mean it's an 'Adventure' category bike. Words have meaning, and for most of us 'Adventure' bike means 1. wire spoke wheels, 2. 21" front wheel, and 3. multi-cylinder. The Himalayan has a single cylinder so it doesn't meet all the criteria to be classified an "Adventure" bike. But I'd love to see your criteria for what defines an "Adventure" bike, and how it could be easily used to differentiate between Adventure and Dual Sport categories. cheers

That said, I'd like to see how it holds up under riding. If you rode one a lot & let us know what problems you see & how well the Dealer's are at supporting their products? Buying & Modding is easy.... riding the bike for a time & telling us your experience is not easy = but that's what we need to know, if you have time/energy to give that? By the way ; this is what people need on every bike. To know how it holds up to riding & if the dealer helps you get along?? peace man

I think you should sell your CL500 and your CRF300L, and NOT get an Africa Twin. Your CL500 doesn't do anything that your CRF300L can't do, except it's a little more road capable, but as long as you neglect installing a skid plate on the CL500, it's worthless off road. None of these Hondas are high performance at anything. The Africa Twin can eat road miles well, but compared to a KTM 890 Adventure R, is not in the same league off road. And you already had an Africa Twin, so maybe it's time to try something else. The CL500 also has the same problem you found with your Triumph Scrambler 1200XC - it doesn't travel as well as an Adventure bike, and doesn't off road as well as a light dual sport. I don't see the point of the CL500 for you, because it doesn't do anything as well as your Triumph Scrambler 1200XC did. Your CL500 build reminds me of the Triumph Street Scrambler 900, except the 900 is more capable and has a skid plate. If you really want a do it all arsenal of two or three bikes, then I think the optimal solution is: a KTM or Beta 350 or 500, & a KTM 790 / 890 Adventure or ‘Adventure R’. The KTM 790 / 890 Adventure only weighs 15 lbs more than your CL500, BUT has 3x more Horse Power, and superior suspension. Not only that, but the middle weight KTM can do most technical off-road stuff all day long and is fairly comfortable for long travel. And for real fun off-road, you want a KTM or Beta 350 or 500 for that. The gap between a KTM or Beta 350 or 500, & a KTM 790 / 890 Adventure or ‘Adventure R’ doesn't need to be filled, because it's easily covered with overlap between these two bikes. If you absolutely feel the need for a third bike, don't try and fit it in-between Adventure and dual sport; get something for looks, or on road performance, or just because. For you maybe that is a CL500, but for me it would be more like a KTM 990 Duke (looks throw you off at first, but watch a few videos demonstrating what they can do and they will grow on you), Triumph Speed Twin 1200, or something even more different. Good luck
