@br3nnabee4 жыл бұрын
There's a lot of inaccuracies in this video that don't specifically fit with what is actually stated, and here are a few: 1. The current idea for the starship heatshield would consist of venting spare fuel through tiny, pore-like holes that would essentially 'sweat' and remove enough thermal energy that the stainless steel ship can absorb the rest, although we haven't heard any updates on this design in a while, so we're unsure whether or not this will actually be used. 2. The first starship to mars is actually planned to launch late 2022, and land about 2023, which will be unmanned, and the 2024 launch will indeed have humans on board if everything goes according to plan. 3. The methalox engine of the starship doesn't actually pollute as much as methane does, because when it reacts with the air, it converts into much safer and less polluting gasses 4. We have no known plans for the use of the boring company on Mars, and all ideas about it are merely fan theories, probably not actually accomplishable due to the huge economic strain of sending such a heavy payload to Mars. 5. The Starlink satellite chain would not in any way be useful to the martian settlers, since it's made for commercial media consumption on earth, and cannot in any way speed up communications to Earth. 6. The Tesla battery stack in Boca Chica is most likely used to power equipment, although similar technology might actually be used to contain energy for the settlement. We just don't have any actual comment from SpaceX to tell us whether or not this will be used on Mars. After all, batteries are extremely heavy.

While I do agree that creating on off planet survival system would be extremely beneficial, I think we should only use Mars for that in the short term. If you want to make a long term colony on another planetary body I personally would go to Venus, it is just slightly smaller than Earth, has a similar orbital pattern, and is mostly made out of the same stuff, with the addition of a specific helium variant (the exact type escapes me atm) would be able to convert the sulfuric acid in the atmosphere into simple graphite and water, which would fall down to the surface not only thinning the atmosphere, but also cooling the Venetian surface in the process.

2:00 ~ I guess they worried they'll put there selves out of a job (not going to happen). but also rockets have a history of blowing up due to computer stuff, so some what why waste money making something reusable when we will probably never get it back again. furthermore the space sector are bound to learn enough from just a launch alone to dramaticly improve there next rocket they'll sell. These are all poor reasons as the matter of the fact is we know how to launch we've been doing it over a decade (technically) it's better we learn to land them as any spacecraft made in the future will need to land on a planet and parachutes will never do for anything truly human capable and wings (maybe) but they obviosly become redundant when in space, maybe when we have "starships"/"mother-ships" in space I can see "shuttle-crafts" having wings which are designed for hypersonic flight and those rings can fold for better stoage. wings would be better when we meet more dense atmosphere's as control would be much greater with aerodynamics. we need an upgrade in engines right now, I see ionic when be the next form of propulsion or some form of heavy inert gas plasma thruster (inert) means it'll be much safer and plasma thruster means we use the power of electricity to both heat and accelerate the gas
