I'd hate the portal setting idea, but everything else here sounds golden. Since they'll want the story to capture core aspects of the Zelda series (most likely without introducing anything new and big into the lore), I'm a little worried that the plot might end up a little too basic if they don't specifically adapt any of the games. Of course, just straight up adapting a game on its own wouldn't really be all that satisfying to see either since we already know that game's story. Personally, I think their best bet would be to mash multiple games into one, and then build upon some pre-existing concepts in new ways to fill in the games.

Few problems I have with the concepts I see here: We want adult Link right out the gate? Young Link is too compelling to skip, flash back memories won’t be enough either. We want Link to defeat Ganandorf in the first movie?? The gamble on a Zelda movie isn’t enough unless it’s meant to set up multiple movies. I think we deserve a solid story of young link, where he either gets to the master sword at the end or comes to the realization of how powerful Ganandorf is through an act of force. Either would be compelling cliff hangars that get fans begging for more.

Ganondorf could be "defeated" at the end of the movie without actually being gone for good. Plenty of movies like this have the main villain lose at the end of the movie and then come back for the sequel, game adaptations especially (In the Sonic movies, Robotnik always stuck around after being defeated previously. And believe me, when the second Mario Movie roles around, Bowser ain't staying in that jar). Up until Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom, every version of Ganon we'd seen was a variation of the same person. He can be sealed away at the end of the first movie, then break free in the second and end up winning at the end, only for Link and Zelda to then make a comeback in the third movie and destroy Ganon for good. It's best for the first movie at least to be somewhat conclusive on its own, even if it does spawn other sequels down the line.

Love how you describe Link at the start. 👍 And yes, he does not need a big character arc, because he is already a really great character who honestly doesn't have many flaws (maybe besides sneaking a peek at some diaries, lol). He always tries his best to fulfill his destiny and save the world, whether he has a personal stake in his quest or not (for instance, he did in TWW, but not really in MM). The setbacks he faces are not usually his fault. There's nothing wrong with any of that, and I love him for it. I know a lot of fans are against the idea of Link speaking in the movie, but it is not him talking that is the problem. After all, we know he is not canonically mute, so for that to suddenly be the case would make little sense. No, I think that the issue is simply in finding the right actor to portray him, along with him being written in a way that is faithful to his in-game character--which, while it logically has some variation from lifetime to lifetime based on each life's circumstances, is always the same at the essential level. Truthfully, I can do without much Zelda, in the games and in a movie. Obviously that won't happen, just a personal opinion. Also, I have no problem with the damsel-in-distress stereotype, and would much prefer that to turning Zelda into some "girl-boss" who pretty much makes the hero pointless in his own story. Beause when all is said and done, title aside, it is Link's story that the games tell. He's the only one who is in every game, is always the one on whom the fate of the world rests, and is literally the one individual soul chosen by the gods to fight evil and cursed by Demise to be reincarnated endlessly. (In contrast, Demise only cursed Hylia's blood, that is, her descendants, which says to me that every following Zelda is not Hylia reborn, but simply her granddaughter to whatever degree. But this is a bit of a digression, lol.) Much as I wish otherwise, I have zero hope that this movie will be good. However, as someone else said, no matter how bad the movie is, it won't hurt the games. So I'm trying to focus on that. And sorry, but I hate the portal idea. 😯 😉

Instead of a portal from the real world, I've wanted for a long time a zelda game that connects a modern hyrule (basically like our world but in hyrule) to a prehistoric / very early one (I mean close to the creation, before or when Demise first appears). I almost got what I wanted with totk but not quite. It could be the story of how hyrule always seems to restarts / is a cycle, we could even see some parts of previous cycle (or timelines), like in a magic mirror or something.. I'm probably being confusing, it's because I have had several loose and vague ideas around that bouncing around in my head for years, like, why is there more advanced technologie from the past in several games but the hyrule that we see always seems to be stuck in medieval/Renaissance times? Would b be cool to actually see one of those times hyrule was advanced, and also very primitive. Maybe my love of chrono triggeris influencing me there lol

Or maybe instead of Link saving Zelda, they team up as a buddy road trip. Like the Mario Movie, or heck even the Zelda Cartoon. Standing as equals. I mean, if you think about it, the games aren't so much LInk saving Zelda but them working with each other.

Same. Cartoon Link was a rude ass, but he was still a hero in spirit despite his bad manners. My favorite episode actually highlights this with the another "hero" who unlike Link, wasn't willing to get dirty to do the right thing.

Its made by wes ball so it will most likely be Botw based because he's done the nature taking over society post apocalyptic setting pretty much exclusively. The movie will play it safe and tell a straight forward story with lots of characters looking exactly as they were in the games. it will probably be a great one time watch for fans but lack substance entirely. The girl from the witcher and Kingdom may play zelda and that would be pretty lame.

Honestly I kind of dislike almost all the suggestions you made, no offense. Whereas the Mario movie could have a light story, portal setting, and billions of easter eggs, I honestly think the Zelda movie should be the exact opposite. Ever since OoT came out, Zelda has been a story driven video game series, even BoTW, a game often criticized for having a meager plot, has far more plot than the Mario movie ever could have, it's just very subtle. Just throwing in easter eggs as fan service will probably take SO MUCH time, emotion, and emphasis away from the plot and characters of the actual story. It'll honestly be a disservice. I feel the same way about the Portal Setting. It'd simply take to much time and emphasis away from the actual story and setting. Just imagine if LOTR had had a Portal Setting. The entire story would have been completely ruined, the stakes would have been minimized, the emotional attachment to all the characters in the story beside Frodo would have been negated and the entire world would have felt like ridiculous nightmare rather than a magical land. Plus, so much cool worldbuilding would have been wasted. With a portal setting you lose the sense of history and of realness which both LOTR and TLoZ need so badly. There's a reason the staple game of the series is called A Link to the PAST. Link can still grow up in a sheltered, more modern, less wild setting though and only learn about and explore the whole world and it's lore, after he begins his quest. Just look at Kokori Forest, Outset Island, and Ordon Village. Its honestly a vital part of the series, the need for the hero to know just as little about the world around him as the audience does. I also think the movie could, if it wanted to, be mostly based off of or inspired by a single game, likely that game would be either BotW, OoT, SS, or ALttP. I do agree with your points on Ganondorf. He should be intimidating and terrifying, and the movie honestly probably should be PG-13 (or right on the line, like Harry Potter). I think Nintendo definately should flesh out his character, backstory, and motivations and he should be the sort of villain we both love and hate.

I would love to have a portal thing because like you said, it would be very relatable. Also, I think the main character should be shy and not talk that much to give the effect of Link but is very brave. I like your ideas, and looking forward to the trailer.
