What would Katniss and Peeta be like as mentors?

Hi friends! This week we look at what would Katniss and Peeta be like as mentors had they not re-entered the arena for the 75th Hunger Games!
Being a mentor is extremely difficult, and each mentor faces the challenge differently. Which begs the question, how would Peeta and Katniss face it had they been given the chance to?

Here's a list 1. Both are from the Seam 2. Both had a younger sibling they'd do anything to protect and a mentally challenged mother. 3. Both know what it's like to be poor and hungry 4. Both lost their dads in a mining accident (that's a Haymitch theory) 5. Both were the caretakers of their families 6. Both are hostile and sullen 7. Both were highly skilled with their weapon of choice (Katniss bow and arrows Haymitch the knife) 8. Both got saved by their district partner who was from the merchant section from a career tribute (Peeta from Cato. Maysilee I think some boy from district 1) 9. Both comforted a dying female tribute in their last moments 10. Both their fiercest opponent was a career tribute that was a bigger, stronger version of their merchant class district partner ( district 1 female for Maysilee. Cato for Peeta. But Peeta isn't necessarily weaker than Cato since he could haul 100 pound bags of flour mentioned in the first book. Cato is just a more skilled fighter). 11. Both their final kill was a career tribute. 12. Both won their games by doing something that made the Capitol look like idiots

I feel like it would be better for them to be in the 73th games. Be mentor in the 74th. Both losing their tributes and wanting revenge. And then being reaped for the 75th. We would've seen the mentor side in the capitol. Get to know other Victor's that weren't in the clock arena etc. Love every hunger game video you post 🎉

Personally I can’t imagine Katniss as a mentor for interview. She didn’t plan her actions during the games or interviews. Peeta would help with interviews and sponsors, whereas Katniss would help with game strategy and talents. Their personalities and specialities would go so well together and it would be almost perfect. However I feel their tribute would have odds stacked against them because of the game makers not wanting a repeat of Katniss and Peeta. Katniss’ mental health I feel would suffer more then Peeta’s. Peeta would simply be too determined that one of their tributes could win. Katniss would become like Haymich overtime where she believes emotionally distancing herself would be best. She already has those issues and being a mentor would likely amplify that

I feel like Katniss would teach the tributes everything she knew about surviving and encouraging them to be more confident and have the mindset that they could actually win. For Peeta, on the other hand, I feel like he would have severe PTSD, like Katniss did after their games (and still does), because he would get way too attached to the tributes and watching them die every year would do a huge toll on his mental health. I feel like this would not happen to Katniss as much, because multiple times she states that she never wants to have kids. Peeta, on the other hand, wants kids. My reasoning is that maybe he would think of them as his children because of how attached he would get. Also you have a new subscriber! :)

Abby Anime Lover THATS WHAT I SAID!!! when plutarch heavensbee showed katniss the clock at the party in the capitol ( sort or giving her an hing that the next arena would be a clock) so that katniss her tributes would’ve had an higher chance of winning if they knew what was about to come, i’m also pretty sure if katniss was a mentor district 12 finally would’ve had some more victors, since most tributes from district 12 died early in the games bc haymitch didn’t even bother mentoring them meaning they were as good as dead katniss even mentioned that there have been tributes from district 12 that were well build and well fed and actually looked like they at least had a chance of winning but they ended up dead bc of his lack of mentoring katniss basically had to beg for him to mentor them. so i’m pretty sure katniss would mentor them as much as she could and look for sponsors since she was the previous victor from that year.

I think that when they are first mentors they would be optimistic and get somewhat attached. Especially if the girl tribute resembled Rue or Prim in anyway like how Katniss allied and got attached to Rue but then was devastated after her death. I also think that after a few lost games they would loose all hope and act like Haymitch.

i feel like katniss would probably just give general advice, especially to tributes she wasn't fond of. but if she saw a certain spark in them, a strong will to survive paired with skills/a personality that they could use to their advantage to help them in and out of the arena (we learn that the games pretty much start the second you arrive in the capital; katniss and peeta wouldn't have made it out of the arena if it hadn't been for their flashy introduction in the chariots or their memorable interviews which made them compelling to the audience and therefore gained them camera time and sponsors), just like what Haymitch saw in her and Peeta, she would try her absolute hardest to make them win. although in general, the tributes Peeta trained would go farther into the games. like it or not, he is a master manipulator and would find an angle for each tribute to play off of and get the Capital to at least remember who they are.

I think that it would have destroyed Katniss being a mentor. Same with Peeta. Imagine if the 75th twist would have been families of former victors. That way Prim would be the tribute and Katniss would have to mentor her. Also Peeta would have to mentor one of his younger brothers, and that kid would potentially have to fight Prim. That would have destroyed Katniss and Peeta's relationship. If Snow was thinking, that's what he would have done. That would have destroyed Katniss. And Prim wouldn't have been able to destroy the arena. Plutarch totally played Snow from the beginning. Even at the party he showed katniss his watch with the mockingjay on it, trying to tip Katniss off about the clock arena. Katniss didn't get that clue though.

@@kamenriderfourze8434 I'd forgotten the ages, but his younger older brother was still age eligible during the 74th games. And if they really wanted to do the sibling thing they could have scrapped the age requirement like they did with the actual Quarter Quell. It could have been worse if Peeta had to mentor an older brother, because he's be so torn. He'd want that brother to protect Prim, but would also want that brother to survive. I'm not sure how close he is to his brothers but he surely loved them even if they weren't as close as Katniss and Prim were.

Peeta would probably give them a few tips on camouflage. After all, that's his best weapon. Katniss would probably give them similar tips to Haymitch, like find water, get to high ground, etc., and a few pointers on hunting and gathering. Congratulations on 15k subscribers! :)

She didn’t like killing the other tributes. She had nightmares afterwards for years. She wouldn’t expect anyone else to be okay with it, but she’d also have to make the tribute aware that it’s that or die. She just had no choice, it was either that or die. She didn’t expect too much from Prim; she expected or hoped Prim would react better to hunting because in a situation where Katniss and Gale were reaped (not impossible), prim and her mum would’ve starved.

I think Katniss way of training could be, at first, asking the tributes what they do in daily live as a basis, since she could spot Peeta's strengh from working on the bakery, and Rue's ability with the trees from her previous work as a collector

I honestly think Katniss would grow really attached to younger tributes she has to mentor like Rue and she would really try to help them. Over time, she would probably end up like Haymitch from guilt as she was distraught when Rue died so imagine if it happened year after year. She would try to give up and not help but she tried to do that with Peeta and it didn't work. However, Peeta would tr give advice based on each tribute's strength and focus on making the Capitol like them. I don't think he would grow as attached and he would try to stay strong for Katniss and other tributes so they could have at least someone to help. Also great video again :)

I really wish we could've gotten one year of them being mentors and seeing the relationships they would've had, like they went in the the 73rd and mentored the 74th and though it would've been weird for snow to let them off the hook for like 2 years, it would've been interesting to see new characters and get to watch a normal games, maybe learn more about career districts, given some mentors from other districts some back story before we met them in catching fire

I would have liked to see Katniss being kind and loving towards her tributes as she was towards Rue, and would do everything In her power to prepare them and bring them home, only to have a mental breakdown before her tributes enter the arena. Peeta most likely would have done his best to prepare them and inform them on good strategies such as getting people to like you and survival skills.

Panem is the US though, and the Districts were the states. Except Hawaii and Alaska since they were probably flooded. But the main 48 are the Districts, except the ones that inhabit the Capitol.

They would probably do more of a battle royale. If your scenario is true I'm thinking a tyrant got to be president, destroyed the Declaration of Independence, Constitution, and Bill of Rights and creates Panem. Then the states would keep their names and still send the two tributes to fight at the Capitol making it 100 tributes with 99 kids dying each year.

Rue lit decoy fires to distract the careers so katniss had time to blow up the supplies. *they likely found footprints near the decoy fires - since she's the smallest and youngest tribute, her feet and stride length would be very small too.* Possibly the careers came across Rue in the woods and she managed to escape briefly before Marvel killed her so had confirmation. Unlikely but perhaps Peeta lied to them at the start of the games and told them she had an alliance with Katniss to confuse them? Would mean that they might waste time watching for Rue if they came across Katniss, and if they had killed Rue they might have wasted time looking for Katniss nearby when she'd be somewhere else.

I had a theory that they were in the 73rd hunger games and in the 74th they were mentors but out of the blue, Gale was reaped and some other girl was reaped so it would be much more emotional and if gale wins he would tag along with peeta and Katniss on tour which would make things very awkward and interesting. Gale would also be much more attached to Peeta and they could’ve had a friendship. That would also put gale in a position where he would understand what it really means to kill and all the trauma. Maybe he would not have made the bombs that dropped on Prim... it puts everything in a new interesting perspective

I feel I like with katniss that because of her PTSD I feel like if the type of game brings her back to the quarter quell or the time of the ect. She might go on for that year like haymitch drowning out her sorrows in liquor for its proved in the books she didn't cope with the quarter quell that easily she ran hid for awhile then went to haymitch and drank liquor got drunk so if it was a particularly bad arena or she likes a kid than there could be some drinking. Peeta I agree with everything you said for him except his PTSD is still there so that could come in to play

Agree with everything you said. Only thing I'd like to add is that Haymitch also clearly struggles with the guilt of losing his family and girlfriend as a result of his Games. He has no one to support him or bear the burden with. Katniss and Peeta have each other, their families and Haymitch, so I'd imagine they'd cope a bit better than him.

I'd say another reason Haymitch didn't offer advice on being a mentor is because he probably didn't believe he was someone to give it. After all, until Katniss and Peeta came along, Haymitch had pretty much given up, accepting that no matter what advice he gave, his tributes would always die. He would probably say that Katniss and Peeta's success in the games had more to do with their own strength rather than his advice. Hell, one could argue that Haymitch gave Katniss and Peeta the same advice that he gave his other tributes (more or less) and that Katniss and Peeta simply made better use of it.

I think Katniss potentially would get quite attached to her tribute, if they are young and vulnerable because she got quite attached to Rue during the games. Even though she knew she was likely not going to make it to the end. And she would probably know the tribute considering that they are from the same distract and they are a similar age plus Katniss lived on the seam for years so she knows most of them and she knows that they are the most likely to be reaped because she potentially knows them she would know what skills they have and don’t have. I think her and Peeta would work together to work out the best strategies to get there tribute to the end so if they had a young tribute like Rue they would probably advise them to run and hide but if they got a larger tribute someone like Cato or Thresh they would tell them to fight because they are more able to. It would definitely be very difficult for them to be mentors though because they would both have PTSD like they do in the original storyline and it would be a lot stronger because they would have to relive the horror of the games. I never thought about how they would be as mentors. Can another video please be about how arenas work? Like how do they get water in the arenas, make vegetation and trees grow on time before the games, disperse animals, make storms, build structures (like the 73rd's city ruins). I do not think there is enough information in the books or movies to make a video on this but I think it would be cool to theorize.

i feel like they would both mentor both tributes, like katniss would teach combat stuff and survival things for in the games, and peeta would be more for pre-games things like the interview, but also could teach them camouflage and alliance type thinhs

About Haymitch's victory in the hunger games and how he won, how he became a drunkard. About the reapings in the other districts. About Rue's life before. What if Prim never got reaped ?

In the second book it explains all about haymich’s hunger games and how he became a drunkard. Basically, it was the 50th hunger games so there were twice as many tributes. (48) and haymich was among the 48. He had great looks when he was younger so he had sponsors. He was getting along nicely then a pack of carriers approached him and he fought them all off but one which almost got him when a girl from his district shot an arrow that pierced through his stomach. he formed an alliance with that girl from his district and as they explored the arena, they found a cliff and by throwing a rock into the distance, haymich found out about the force field and since they’re were top three the girl and him split up. It was a career tribute, the girl, and haymich. Haymich heard a scream and the girl from his district was eaten by birds or something. Then in the distance he saw the carrier tribute with a huge spear she threw it in his stomach and since he was a very quick guy, he cut her eye out. He had the idea to chase her down to the cliff while holding in his intestines and as she threw the spear, it hit the forcefield and bounced back only to stab her in the heart. When he won, the capital felt embarrassed that a tribute used the forcefield to their advantage. They thought it made the capital look dumb. So as punishment, they executed his family and his girlfriend. That brought him lots of depression to the point where drinking was his only choice and the only thing that got him through life. It has more details in the book about in the middle right before the games.

Could you make a video about the different arenas? I think its really interesting because we see Katniss watching footage from the 73rd hunger games, and I think the guy said it was a crumbled city arena? I think it'd be really interesting. :)

Katniss and Peeta as mentors? That's great cuz after 24 long years, Haymitch can FINALLY take a break for once. But since district 12 is the worst performing district in the games since many kids are underfed or untrained in 12's industry which involves explosives and pick axes, they'd soon see how much Haymitch had to endure seeing almost every kid you mentor die.

So I was waiting for you to say he hadn't mentored them as mentors (if you will) because he already knew about the quarter quell. He was in with the rebels and I feel like they knew by then, especially if you believe the tributes were mostly purposely placed into that arena. So it wouldn't be a far stretch that he knew and his talk with katniss was more fuel for the hate fire rising up in her against the capitol, to secure her wanting to be on their side by showing what the capitol is and does and will do to her if she lets them

I think Katniss would either be quite engaged and put effort into mentoring her tribute and becoming too attached or would not become attached at all.But extreme,yet opposites.Peeta would care about his tribute but would probably attempt to not become extremely attached,but would still be supportive and kind even though he knew their fate.
