How can I find out why I was rejected for entrance to grad school for MSW?

I wrote my statement of purpose and when I submitted it the format changed to a sentence longer than the allowed amount. I am feeling pretty bad because I worked night and day on that statement and had people correct it and look through it and now I am afraid I am an instant rejection. What do you think in these situations if you have a candidate in this position?
