What’s Next For 2D Mario?

Nintendo LOVES to keep secrets, and the ABSOLUTELY SUCK AT IT. Game announcements, online multiplayer, and seemingly a sequel to Mario wonder?
A few days before Mario wonder's release, Nintendo released an interview with their development team. In the interview, they mentioned how they had over 2,000 ideas for the game. The last time they said something like this was for Breath of the wild, and they ended up turning those ideas into DLC and Tears of the Kingdom. Not only that, but its the exact same story with Mario galaxy 2.

If SMBW gets a sequel I’d like to propose more Boss fight variety. The final boss is cool, yeah, and I’d be fine with 1 or 2 Junior battles, but they really missed an opportunity to use the Wonder Flower effects to enhance various enemies to turn them into bosses, kinda like how NSMBDS went about its boss fights

its interesting. One thing ive learned that when youre a small development team, deadlines are necessary. It doesnt even matter if you dont have any reason to have a deadline, make a deadline or nothing will ever get done. But it seems for larger studios, deadlines arent always necessary. Sure you gotta have em' for some games, but some projects can more than get away with not having any.

I gotta say, I really didn’t like being able to collide with friends and Im glad it’s gone but I think it should be a toggle to accommodate both types of players, I also think the way online was implemented is perfect and think they hit the sweetspot for 2D Mario online functionality

There is so much I want to see in a Wonder 2 or DLC! *return of certain power-ups, especially the Ice Flower *the koopalings appear as bosses and each have different wonder effects *new playable characters, possibly including Rosalina and Birdo (as an easy character like Nabbit and the yoshis) *new badges mixed with the ones from the first game *possible new characters *few more cutscenes *of course more wonder effects original and new combined

If they ever do make a Super Luigi Wonder I do want Mario to be playable, or at least, the person you save because why would Mario no-show to a big Luigi adventure? A Mario Wonder sequel would be incredible, the ideas Nintendo showed on the first game and their thoughts on the amount they had gives me hope, awesome video :D

Hear me out: given the supposed leak of a new 3D Mario game that has Mario visit different Nintendo franchises I propose some new twists for this game could be the new “wonder effects” changing the way the game plays straight up into something like Zelda 1 or classic Metroid and seeing how Mario would move in those games or even having it control like them, either or could work really but you do risk making the game TOO diverse by having the move set get changed. I feel like wonder effects should stay in the flower kingdom, in keeping with how ingesting plants is what produces psychedelic effects. Maybe they could make a mario wonder themed metroidvania in the flower kingdom. I’d play that.

i think that having a setting to have multiplayer collision on or off would be a good way to solve the problem; playing with younger siblings is so much easier without it, but playing with friends is less fun and toxic too

I'm in the minority where I personally don't think Super Mario Wonder is perfect. If they were to change anything, I'd probably want a better boss battle for the Airships instead of those buttons, Wonder Flowers that just don't reuse concepts to make each level stand out more, better use for the purple coins aside from unlocking levels and standees, music levels that're more hectic like the Rayman games, Wonder Flowers that aren't just "YOU CAN SWIM IN LAVA NOW!" or "YOU'RE IMMUNE TO ELECTRICITY!", boss battles at the end of every world like I was so bummed out that Fungi Mines and Shining Falls did NOT have a boss, probably DON'T just use Bowser Jr. as your miniboss and get creative like the original New Super Mario Bros. DS, characters that aren't reskins and if they were reskins... can they just like... put it in an alternative costume section? .... I can go on. Like how they took away each character's individuality in favor of the badge system... but then give special powers to Yoshi. Like why can't Peach float with her dress? ALSO FOR GOD'S SAKES, GIVE THE FLOWERS MORE PERSONALITY. I feel like this is the first Mario game with "UMMM THAT JUST HAPPENED" humor. Don't get me wrong! The game's great but a lot of stuff stood out to me..... but it's a hard 8 for me.

One thing I’ve noticed but no one else has talked about is consistency. Ok hear me out Super Mario Bros it got a sequels being SMBLL SMB2 and SMB3. Then we got SMW and it got a sequel being Yoshis Island.Super Mario Land we then got SML2. New Super Mario Bros it got NSMBW, NSMB2 and NSMBU. So what does this show ur asking every mainline Mario (not counting the 3D games) have gotten a sequel so it would only make sense that they make a sequel to SMBW!

Great idea 👻 I think several things need to appear in Wonder 2 …. 1. SMB3 Racoon Tail power up for the craziest “high ceiling” levels in the game 2. 3dWorld’s cat suit power up for all the tough “climbing level ideas” they have. Or maybe even some Tom&Jerry inspired “common household hazards” levels. 3. More “fuzzy” variety, ala Yoshi’s Island …. Traditional wavy fuzzies, but also the uppers, downers, sidewaysers/wallwalkers, and many new consciousness-altering “fuzzies” per specific levels, that showcase such !

Mario Wonder's sequel's villain shouldn't be Bowser. Or at least the main one. It should take place in the dream world where King Wart rules and controls Bowser, Bowser Jr., Koopalings, Boom Boom, etc. I'd love for villains like the Super Mario Bros. 2 ones with variety. And maybe then Bowser would team up with Mario like in SMRPG.

About multi-player, New Super Mario Bros for DS had some really nice local multi-player ideas! It was mini games but still super fun. Except from the classic mini games, like Luigi introducing you to gambling, it had a VS mode where you had to kill the other to take their tokens and it was one of the best things to play!

Themes for Mario Maker. 3D World works because their theme is already based on a blocky world, and it wouldn't feel like too much of a betrayal to the original to turn it into a grid-based level editor. Things like 64, Sunshine or Galaxy have much more varied terrain, and it wouldn't make much sense to turn them into a grid-based level editor.

The character traits were removed because the badge system is generally better. Now you can have the same or similar effects on any character you like, and you don’t have to deal with any negative traits your favorite character may have.

I see that many people wanted each character to have exclusive abilities, but I think that just ruins the game for people that prefer the mario controls but like other characters more. Like, Toad is my favorite character in the game but I wouldn't play him if his mechanics were different. Each character having unique mechanics just incentivises people to not play with their favorite character because they don't like their mechanics or just because there are easier/harder characters

1:30 Ive got a salution thats more realistic and wouldn't need to have things be built from the ground up. They need to make MW2 focus on the mechanics that took a back seat in the first game, and tone down the one that was front and center. In other words, they need to make the sequal focus more on the badges to get through levels and less on the wonder seed level mechanics.

I had this sort of epiphany when playing Wonder for the first time, everyone I knew predicted the bosses would go the Yoshi's Island route, where enemies became bigger and stronger. And going back to Yoshi's Island, I noticed there were enemies called Little Mousers and thought they were loosely related to Mouser from Super Mario Bros 2. Or could just be yet another coincidence from god knows when. Regardless that got me thinking, if Mouser had an army of Little Mousers and other rodent enemies from across the franchise, including brand new ones, it would be an excellent alternative to Bowser and the Koopa Troop.
