Liverpool originally applied to be called Everton they were never granted permission to play as Everton because there was already Everton... no matter how well they do it's always worth reminding them that Liverpool was their 2nd choice name.

AFC Bournemouth were originally called Boscombe FC, not taking the name Bournemouth & Boscombe Athletic until after WWI. MK Dons are *officially* a new club founded in 2004. If, however, you want to trace them back through Wimbledon then they'd be Wimbledon Old Central.

Sheffield United's full title was Sheffield United cricket and football club, then in 1974 the South Stand was built over the cricket square, the cricket club relocated and the Pavillion demolished. Pleased you got Bradford City in as Manningham.

Middlesbrough was called Ironopolis before it was Middlesbrough. They played at Paradise Fields, the corner or which became Ayresome Park. There's still a bit of wall there from Ayresome Park, the rest just houses.

Great comment, Yeah we looked into this one before hand it was called Middlesbrough FC first, then several members left to form Middlesbrough Ironopolis after a dispute, technically they are listed as a separate club. Both teams debuted professionally in 1899, then they ended up merging. Hence why we used Middlesbrough FC in the video

Now somebody needs to make a Football Manager save with these names and coats and publish it. Bonus points if for all the other major leagues as well (Stade St Germain, Football Sky Madrid, Milan Cricket and Football, Wilhelmina Rotterdam. Today's major German clubs are lacking, being founded under their name, but Falke Eppendorf for Hamburg would be an example).

Definitely. Great name for its time and was probably considered quite cool but it's probably for the best that they became Rovers. The kit was awesome too: all black with a yellow sash on the shirt. It's why the pirate on the current club badge is blacked out with a yellow sash. Common second strip colours too.

Luton Town were a completely different club that followed Wanderers and Excelsior. A Wanderers player then went and formed Town, so although there is a link they weren’t the same. As for MK, well as a football fan, I get it I do , but putting my YT channel impartiality cap on. we all know they were Wimbledon once, sadly, and that’s well publicised. It’s fair to say AFC are the true successor, but the actual entity became MK ☹️

@RyderSontaig
@RyderSontaig 6 күн бұрын
@Footy13s They (we) are trying to claim they are the oldest club. Crystal Palace F.C. was a short-lived amateur football club formed in 1861, who contributed to the development of association football during its formative years. They were founder members of the Football Association in 1863, and competed in the first ever FA Cup competition in 1871-72. The club disbanded around 1876, its last entry listing appeared in the 1875 Football Annual edition. The current professional Crystal Palace F.C. claims to be a continuation of this club, although this has been disputed by football historians. The current professional Crystal Palace F.C. claims to be a continuation of the original club, after two club historians asserted a lineage, through the Crystal Palace Company ownership. This has led to claims by the club that Crystal Palace should be recognised as the oldest professional football club in the world in existence today. This claim has been disputed by other football historians, and also rejected by the Football Association after a detailed review by the National Football Museum. The FA told The Times in April 2022: "Amongst those historians, the broad consensus is that there is not a clear, substantial and continuous link from the Crystal Palace club founded in 1861 to that founded in 1905. Therefore, we will continue to recognise both the 1861 and 1905 foundation dates of the clubs named Crystal Palace.

According to the FA, the club in Buckinghamshire were FOUNDED in 2004, at the same time as Wimbledon FC were dissolved, therefore the two entities are legally different, only the players and management transferred to the new organisation. The FA subsequently awarded the intellectual property rights, including the complete playing history of Wimbledon FC, to AFC Wimbledon meaning, in the eyes of the FA, AFCW are the legal continuation of WFC.
@Retro-Football-Club
@Retro-Football-Club 26 күн бұрын
We are aware. However we all know and it’s common knowledge that MK Dons were Wimbledon. They even played a season as Wimbledon but based in Milton Keynes in 2003-04. So whatever legal papers have been signed to what manor doesn’t cancel out the fact that the club were purchased and relocated. Hence why that’s stated in our video.
@MidlandMark
@MidlandMark 25 күн бұрын
@Retro-Football-Club Yes, WFC were bought, then WOUND UP, after which all the history and honours of WFC were transferred by the FA to ACFW. By the FA's own rules, AFCW are the legal, as well as moral, contiunuation of the club - it's okay, I know you won;t back down or re-edit the video, especially as there were a few other errors (but I'm not going to list them all).

Don’t get me wrong if I’m taking my impartial hat off got a second, i absolutely love AFC Wimbledon and what they stand for, and I see them as the correct flag bearer for the old team, however had the original club not relocated they wouldn’t exist.
