In this video I'll show you the different types of plant supports that I have used over the years and that have worked well for me: everything from store- bought, to homemade, to natural.

Peonies seem to grow several inches a day once they wake up in Spring. I used to look at them and think "I' better get the hoops around these before they get much taller", and every year I'd end up struggling to corral them into the supports because I procrastinated. Now I just leave the peony hoops in the ground. Thanks for showing us the support your husband made -- it looks really sturdy!

Hi Mary. You're so right about the Peonies. It's quite incredible to see how fast they grow.😀

Hi Diane, thanks for the video. You have reminded me I must stake my oriental poppies. I always forget to do it until they start flopping over and then they look trussed up and unnatural. I hope you are feeling better now x

Much better Jennifer, thank you. You've actually just reminded me that I have a huge Oriental Poppy that needs staking!! I forget about it every year until it's too late. So thanks for that. 😀

We have a large willow tree and I cut branches off this every year and use them and jute to create natural plant supports mainly in a teepee shape but I don’t use horizontal branches wrapped around as that takes too much work. The string tied around the top three branches in a triangle makes a strong very natural support. I also just lean branches against a wall if the plant is near a wall and use that for support.

Hi Catherine. I'm intrigued by the jute element of your supports and can't picture where it comes into play. Could you describe in more detail please, as I have jute and would love to use it if possible. 😀

My job tomorrow. We also have a very windy garden but the crocosmia is the floppiest plant by far in my garden. I also use steel fencing pins and string.

My peonies have really shot up this week all of a sudden. They are young plants, two years old or so, but I may have to support them this year, if they get big. Looks like you have some good supports there. The branches are great idea! This will be helpful, thanks! 🌿🌿🌿🌿🌸

I like the angle of the supports you showed, i know some plants supports could contain lead so you should always check to make sure theres no warnings of contamination of lead before buying the specfic support, i think you can look under the description specifics..no gardener would want lead leeching into their garden..i simple love your garden and your groupings of plants together they are really interesting combinations and have given me ideas of trying some different plants..thank you for video im gonna look for the half moon support type , some communties of native indigenous americans would cut down sunflower stalks after flowers went to seed and when stalk is dried and they would twine four or three stalks (depending on the look they were going for) together to use for plants support ,the sunflower stalks last a few years up to 3 years one gardener said up to they got 4 years but i suppose it depends on rain snow amounts .then they would just compost the remains when the stalks started degrading..🌱🇺🇲💙

Hi there. That's a really interesting fact about the sunflower stalks. I grew sunflowers a few years back but without much success as my garden is too shady and windy. So pleased you're enjoying the videos. Hope you have a lovely weekend 😊

This was very helpful, especially with the chickenwire. I use it with sticks in it on the edges (very clumsy), but never thought about just bending it down in the ground 🙄 I also use inexpensive rebar (bend it around a tree) according to size...Happy gardening 💚

So pleased you found the content helpful. I think I'll have to source some rebar in our area. Hope the bendy chicken wire works for you and a big thank you for taking the time to leave a comment. It's very much appreciated. Diane 😊

Thank you for making me laugh!..... When you leaned to the right hand side because the winds blows in that direction.... I said to myself I wondered why she was leaning so much to one side while standing still.... That explains it!....Cute.,..❤ Don't feel bad I've been leaning forward... Because this gardening manually is hurting my back!... And it's a lot of work for the flowers that I'm receiving...
@thedown-to-earthgardener3 ай бұрын
Hello. You're right, it certainly is a lot of bending and lifting. I didn't realise just how much bending until I saw myself on video😀. Do take care and remember to bend at the knees! Happy gardening.

I've always been too late with my supports as one minute you think the plant's okay then the next it's toppled over. I'll be more organised this year! Your new grass is looking wonderful. Did you survive storm Kathleen? I had a few Tulips that took a battering but at least everyone is safe which is all that matters. x
@thedown-to-earthgardener4 ай бұрын
Hi Wendy. Well, we survived it. I had started to shoot a video of me dressing the front of the garage on Saturday. However, the wind was so bad that it blew my tripod over, with my phone and mic. attached, three times. So I had to just stop. When I start again people will be thinking 'those tulips look a bit battered.' Such is the film industry 🤣.
