I'm a lifelong Lions fan. Even though I refuse to watch the games and haven't followed the team for years for obvious reasons. But when people say the lions are the Lions and they will never win, I immediately respond with New Orleans Saints. Get the right coach and the right quarterback and you can win. Look at The Saints. Drew Brees and Sean Payton completely turned that franchise around.

@@bryantdixon8918 it's hard to say that in the moment. A lot of players dont bounce back from injury and drew was injured as his contract expired. @@docsylva2876 I mean you have a point, the rules have changed, but QBs can still be tackled, there’s still pressure for the QB because if the line rushes them he can still get tackled for a loss of yards they’re just protecting the QB from getting absolutely obliterated in the pocket or tackled when he already threw the ball, it still takes skill, you’re still rushed for time, they just don’t have equipment that protects from the brutality that the sport used to have But make no mistake, QBs still get their asses kicked today, especially the ones who like to rush like Robert griffin III or Michael Vick, they suffered many injuries leaving the pocket and getting ran over trying to run for that first down. I don’t think that rule change is absolutely a terrible thing, although players do choose to take that risk themselves when they join up

Cowher and Roethlisberger were given an opportunity to redeem themselves in 2005, after getting their asses kicked by New England in the 2004 AFC Championship game at home. I have no doubt that, following a 15-1 season that ended badly, Dean Spanos would have fired Cowher and replaced him with Norv Turner or someone else who had no business being a head coach. Especially since that was Cowher's fourth AFC Championship game loss at home. That's the difference between stable and unstable ownership. The Chargers are on their fourth head coach since firing Marty following the 2006 season. The Steelers have had three head coaches since 1969.

As a Saint's and BIG Drew Bees fan..I hate to say this but only because we aquired the greatest QB in history in my opinion. I'm glad for your injury but better yet your recovery Drew. Sorry for your pain but if it wasn't for your injury, we probably wouldn't have won the SB. I had been a Saints fan from the beginning....Billy Kilmer, John Gilliam, Steve Stonebreaker, Jim Taylor, Dave Wetzel, Danny Abromowitz, Charlie Derkie who was kicker before Demsey...I can go on and on about my devotion to this very loosing team that I stood by with enthusiamsm for all of these years. Then 20 years later, we weren't the "aints" anymore. We finally got into the playoffs but did nothing after. Then we got to the playoffs with a one game win...THEN FINALLY, a little more than another 20 years...AHHH! SB CHAMPS! Sorry Drew if I seem insensitive to your injury but I think without it/you, the Saints would still be in the SB hunt. Thus we could expect more that we would win instead of loose with Drew and Sean. KUDOS TO SEAN PAYTON AS WELL!!!! A great coach. And so deserving because he can take a team and build it into a playoff caliber team in a season. ie, made it in first season as head coach.

I agree. I made similar comments above. It was messy and the GM could have used the 1st round pick to trade for multiple players to make that team a multi-super bowl contender but didn't have the wisdom to see what he had in his possession.

Brees didn't throw temper tantrums or roll his eyes after a int. I seen him mad one time at Jeremy Shockey for blowing his cover and the two went on to pass for a touchdown in a super bowl. Manning and Brady have so much film of their emotions, and to be fair, it's understandable to get upset sometimes, but Brees read the same body language every down. "Going to move these damn chains to that endzone and get 6". No matter the situation. As emotional as it is to play football as a QB, to remain zoned in and stay professional is impressive.

Outside of the '04 season, he looked pretty average and even in that one bright spot season, they couldn't even snag a playoff win against the worst AFC team. Guess he just needed a change of scenery and a weaker conference. Wasn't really like the Chargers made a bad decision letting him go. Rivers had an overall better SD career than Brees did. That being said, Brees had a better overall career than Rivers did, but that may never have happened if he stayed with the Chargers.

Brees was great in playoffs that 04 year though. 05 was a great year also for 05 standards and rules. For today's easy rules it would be an average season, but back then Brees had a season worse than only Peyton Manning and Carson Palmer. Brady, Brees, and Hasselbeck were the notch below them.
