Max this is a hard start to your off grid journey but don't get discouraged. It will get better. The bones of the house are not glorious to fix but there is an incredible reward to making them come back to life again. Also remember you are saving tens of thousands of dollars by doing all this work yourself. It's time consuming, dirty, and labor intensive but you are making it happen. You are doing all of this on your own so don't put too much pressure on yourself. Don't forget to reach out to your friends for support. I'm sure the VanWives would love to offer advice especially about living without indoor plumbing. We all want you to succeed. You got this. Keep going buddy!

My parent's old brick and plaster house in northeast Missouri was built in the 1850s and definitely in disrepair, plus the freezing cold winters mean heating the house to 55°F, about 12.8°C, and heating my room to 65°F cost about $550 USD in the winter. By comparison, it's about $200 to heat my mom's 1970s house last year.

Loved this video. Suggestion: you know you can shave Occy. We did that to our Aussie late in life. It took off extra pounds, helped with her arthritis and she felt like a puppy again. She was a little more mobile and comfortable. Love you both❤❤

Hi Max, we're doing something similar here in southern Mexico, building off grid in a cloud forest. We run into tarantulas, scorpions and an abundance of insect and bird life. Additionally we've had our share of roofing troubles/challenges and at the end of the day we're so very grateful for this life. 😃

Hi Max! Dog groomer here. Not trying to overstep, I love your channel, but if you have the chance to give Occy a proper shave down now that the weather is warming up, I can’t recommend it enough. Senior dogs have bad troubles with their mobility and their joints which only gets worse with time. Occy is glorious with all of his floof but he could have upwards of 10lbs of fur on him right now. Having that weight taken off is an incredible preventative measure for your pup’s mobility and strength moving forward. He will thank you for it. Just a suggestion ❤❤❤

I know EXACTLY what you mean about finishing big projects. I recently built a cabinet that took 3 episodes and I still didn't show the final staining (the 5 percent you mentioned). And then my neighbor said: "It looked pretty easy from the video" She hadn't even thought about all the editing I had to do to get it down to a reasonable viewing length. But, I guess it comes with the territory. You're doing a great job on your projects!!

Most of the spiders are harmless. There is only really one species you have to watch out for with your dog, and that is the funnel web. When it comes to snakes, the main characters where Max lives are the red belly black, which are venomous but are pretty calm and take a bit to anger. There are lots of pythons, but it would need to be a really big one to go after Occy. The bigger threat would be the Brown snakes (very venomous & can be aggressive). However, I don't think they are too common in the rainforest.

I couldn’t handle spiders the size of my hand or knowing there are venomous snakes in the grass. It’s beautiful thought, I will live vicariously through Max and Occy

Max.... When I see you finding things that are DEFINITELY things the previous owner was aware of when selling you this property...... I wonder to myself..... Do you feel like he just fed you a complete line of shit when selling you the home? I mean you're basically having to remodel the ENTIRE home right down to the studs! You may have even saved a bit of money by just tearing down the entire structure and starting from scratch?? Even though I know nothing can be done about it, I'm COMPLETELY IRRITATED at the previous owner! It makes me wonder if any of those home warranties you can purchase now at the time you purchase a home would have paid for any of the issues you've had with your home?? Who knows?? These days it seems as if it's just perfectly acceptable to just out and out lie to people when selling your home. Me being such an honest person with an abundance of integrity, It just doesn't seem right!!

Id love to have a male and female of those tiny cute animals just as pets. I'd let them and their babes take over my land. Way cuter than the groundhogs I have! Spiders, I have Tn.grass spiders. They get inch larger than wolf spider. Not deadly but the bite is very painful. Huge bodies, long long legs, hairy spiders. I dont mind them as long as its not a surprise. Copilot sounded so awesome until I finished filling out their survey. I didn’t care for the coach I was assigned so I did the survey again and gave different answers…same coach. I then tried again with totally different everything, just flat out lied about my age, weight, gender, experience, what was important to me…same coach. Funny thing was every time I got that coach they outlined his focus and experience to be exactly what I’d indicated I wanted with no mention of the previous supposed experience and focus. Seems like they have just one coach that they present to you as the coach having exactly the focus that you’re looking for. That didn’t give me a lot of confidence in this system. Sorry.
