We just need to ride this wave , the real issue is that our system is ignorant of what needs to be prioritized, agriculture is our economy , yet we are destroying the eco-systems . the drought is southern Africa is largely man-made , we are not planting trees , instead we are cutting down trees , mining and producing a lot of toxic waste that will render the average person helpless, imagine we can cut down the luxury , what about the average person without an oversees pension . its really about fixing the economy from the very bottom . its painful to watch things slide down and the average person is struggling big time , yet there are solutions . Some of us are agricultural experts and can make input in Rural business and Agronomy but ideas fall on deaf ears , we can make things but without good rainfall its a disaster . There are solutions and the people need to act now , the cost of living is rising everywhere so we need to get smarter and go past these challenges , Zimbabwe is still the best option and turning back is not the solution . We stand with you so just keep your head above the water!!!!!!!!!!!

I feel there's something those economists of ours who work at the central bank failed to learn from the colonisers when they left. Our currency is fiat currency same as our former colonisers. If the US can just print cash out of nothing why shouldn't we be in a position to do so and not have that result in hyperinflation. Honestly the only way out should have been to print our own money then have infrastructure development. That infrastructure development should them employ sizeable chunk of our working age population. Why should we have a country where people take twenty years to build a house where they should live? If anything most of the professionals should be able to secure a mortgage. These mortgages can then result in banks employing more people. To safeguard our infrastructure most of the buildings including shops at rural service centres should be constructed by professionals and inspections should be done just like in urban centres. We should also try to industrialise in our own small way by making it a point. How one might ask by ensuring that govt sources from the local industries that will have been setup. We can't have a situation whereby we import toothpicks. We should just buy machinery for such and hopefully after 5 years we will be exporting into the region. It should be govt policy to demand improvements in quality with every iteration of the products we will be producing from these industries. If we are forced to dog food (consume what we produce) at govt level from the permanent secretary right down to the lowest level employee after a decade we will be producing better goods. People can try and argue about the quality of those goods but remember not so long ago mostly people were complaining about Chinese made goods but now China is number one in manufacturing quality goods, even Japan was like that- the Americans were complaining about Japanese electronic goods before it became a manufacturing powerhouse. The major difference between us and the Asians is that Asians believe in iterative improvement of quality of goods but when it comes to us we want to have the best quality from day one. Remember early versions of colour TVs coming out of China would only last the duration of the world cup!
@ignasiodondo3396Ай бұрын
Once you have infrastructure development and local industrialisation you have part of the battle half won. People might complain about the industrial output and its quality but imagine goods that are produced at Siyasoo if one is to marry that with proper engineering from Universities and Technical colleges and then you bring in proper management such that the whole system is professionalised. That will certainly absorb a lot of unemployed people, will raise our GDP and we can even ask be they Russians or Chinese to build us SMR nuclear reactors for our power needs payable over 20 years and reasonable rates. We mechanise our Agriculture currently there is plenty of land in both rural and farming areas that it under utilised because of lack of manpower. If our Agriculture was mechanised a family of 4 could be producing tonnes of produce over their plot of land. 45 years after independence why should we have cattle being used for draught power? We already have agricultural extension officers who should be managing the ploughing of our fields with the said tractors. One can say where does the money come from:- I believe this should have been the command agriculture that we were supposed to have had. Land should be utilised fully so that we have enough for not only our subsistence but for export as well.
@ignasiodondo3396Ай бұрын
Where else can we have our people employed and improvements brought in, you might ask? In the 90s when our industrial base in BYO was having industries facing challenges and starting to close factories this is where we really missed the ball and its not only govt but private sector as well. In fact I see the role of the private sector being to lobby and advise govt on what to do but because our private sector leadership is more given to coming up with complains and have mastered the blame game, they couldn't advice the govt to change focus and pivot towards tourism. Had they done so Victoria Falls would be our second largest city employing multitudes in the hospitality sector. Because we lack vision and committed individuals in both the public and private sector we lost the ball. Why should Vic falls be drawing as much money as say Durban in RSA. In order for tourism to be big it needs a lot of domestic not just foreign to begin with and the way we could have had that was to make it as affordable as possible for locals to be able to fly to Vic falls with family at least once a year. Our problem is we just adopted things from the colonials who felt that it was not ok for blacks to afford those holidays. I feel any professional working in Zim should be able to afford holiday travel with their family at least once a year but we have carried on with this elitist idea projected by whites that ordinary folks should not be able to afford decent holidays in their own country. Once you establish a solid domestic base then promoting it internationally won't be so much of a challenge. If we could do this then the country would become successful.

That's quite expensive. We must have our own vegetable gardens or use some garden sacks for our vegetables. A few chickens , road runners for our own consumption is the key i guess.

I was in Zimbabwe Bulawayo last month and got a few groceries at TM Hyper and was shocked at the total that I paid at the till of about $160 or just above R3000. It is simply expensive to live in the city in Zim. That grocery list in South Africa would have cost no more than R300.
@thoesibanda7769Ай бұрын
With 160$ you can buy a lot at wholesale price Buy in bulk

Wow! Mazoe is $6?? So we will be paying $30 or more for it in Toronto soon! It looks like those closer to Zambian border are shopping there now! Apparently you can get a 6 pack of Mazoe for a few more dollars than you spent for 1 in Zim 😢

Thanks, moms. I see that now again, and I wanted to cast all my nets in Zim. I'm now thinking thrice if not fourth 🤔

Gogo vaKhaya, respectfully, u dont buy apples, cucumbers &carrots in supermarkets in Zimbabwe if the pricing is not working for you. Don’t tell me you don’t know about that. There are obviously cheaper options, you grew up buying zvinhu pamusika. That pack of apples can cost you $2,50 by the musika . Very sustainable.

If you get your meat at the butchery woth that $20 you get more. Veggies and fruits you go to market near tradefair. Shop at small shops not pick n pay.

You don't buy in a departmental store if you're an ordinary Zimbabwean. For fruits and Veg go to the market, for meat go to butcheries eg. 6th ave butchery. For other groceries go to downtown grocery shops ku 6th ave. Buying from big shops like TM, OK, Choppies will kill your bag.😂

i don't buy much from supermarkets in zimbabwe anymore. they got very greedy with their prices. if i want south african products i use a runner from south africa. even when adding his fee on top, it is cheaper than buying in zimbabwean supermarkets. if i want vegetables and fruits i go to the farmer's market where things are cheaper. if i want yoghurt the manufacturer will deliver free if you order for USD 20 or more, and you save USD 1-2 on each 1kg tub of yoghurt. i do buy some meat from time to time in zim supermarkets. and sometimes a particular fruit of vegetable which is not available or sold out at the farmer's market. but some years ago i used to buy everything from the zim supermarket. they priced themselves out of my market.
