My biggest takeaway: you have to do the work. Thank you for reaffirming my faith that there are true leaders like Glen Meakam who focus on providing value to the consumer and society (capitalism with integrity) , and not just chasing enormous personal wealth for themselves. Great interview, well researched and insightful questions Aaron. Thank you!

My take aways from this interview with Glen are that there is no playbook for life but there are principles - value family and be a thoughtful, giving leader. Also you can’t know what’s on the other side of the door when you make a decision to try something new but you need to move forward and your path of learning will open up and make things clearer.

He didn't really make or lose $1 billion. The only numbers that matter are: 1. How much personal capital did he put in? 2. How much did he take out, in salary, bonuses and stock sales? 3. How much did he collect when selling his Ariba stock?

at a fundamental level, yes. On paper, he lost more than a billion dollars worth of value in his company shares. That's a demoralizing scenario for most folks.
