That is the ultimate destruction of ego to light, which is perfect for his character. He lost in the worst ways possible to him. He's essentially no different than a kid who found a gun and thinks he's a hero.

He sees his unsuspecting younger self casually walking back towards the warehouse he fled from, approaching his death without a clue. As the present light is desperately running away from his fate, I can only imagine he sees his younger innocent self and wonders "how did he become this?" Light was a brilliant student with a strong moral compass. If he had conquered his pride, he likely would have had a bright future ahead of him where he could have contributed greatly to the world. Instead, he took the innocence of himself and the world and transformed it into ruin.

You can see how he value his life over others in the way he uses Misa like a pawn, he didnt struck the eye deal himself and put her life on the line to get L. Despite claiming to be the best on that battle of wits with L, you see how he was actually outmatched and scared when he makes his first mistake, and how much trouble he got while having access to supernatural powers. And at the end of the day, it was all a facade, that so calm, fearless, godly and self righteous man, was, at the end of it, just a man. I think the thing which makes the change cool is the fact that it gives two different endings with different meanings allowing whoever views the series can choose which ending they see as fitting basically being the judge for Light Yagami, the same way he had judged others, and neither ending is better than the other both are really great.

It's quite a complex topic, but i'll bring in some quotes... "You see the good in others even when it's not there" -Tighten, Megamind "That (Seeing the world as it is) is a loser's reasoning !" -Sosuke Aizen, Bleach They may be inaccurate, but i hope they bring the points properly Light simply kills criminals that he views to be unpardonable because somehow, they are still out there, boasting (Like how Junko Furuta's torturers are somehow STILL OUT THERE UNPUNISHED (Unless being a severe NEET counts))...the unfortunate agents are simply in the way of a man with severe superiority complex with a strong sense of justice

Same with attack on titan People don't wanna see their cool characters having emotios They just want them to die like cool , but they are not signifying the rawness of eren and light last moment , i love those things
@justaguy77324 ай бұрын
Eren is killing 1.8 billion people and instead of crying over them (like he did and no one had a problem over) he started crying over a self inflicted problem of the possibility a girl that he never showed romantic interest in might move on.
@jyothishlal31284 ай бұрын
@@justaguy7732 I don't know about you It might not even be romantic feelings She is like a family to him who he is with him for majority of his years Don't forget he is just a teenager, so he might misunderstand those feelings for family as romantic interest. And for crying over a girl you said , even if I got caught with a extreme crime and was decided to be executed by the court , I would probably cry thinking about my loved ones , how I am going to leave them alone Can't eren have that right? It's nothing out of character for eren to express his emotions openly, if you have been watching AOT from season 1 you would know that .. he was finally putting down his cold act with his best friend and I don't see any out of character moments in there
@justaguy77324 ай бұрын
@@jyothishlal3128 the thing is that Eren having emotions is fine, chapter 130/131 is loved for that. But didn’t eren show extreme emotion too in 121? When he was full of rage that Karl Fritz dared to take away his and his people’s freedom? Wasn’t Eren showing deep emotion with Ymir, when he freed her? Eren was always very emotional, but his maturity was to stop breaking down and instead handle it better. As for Eren’s breakdown, it makes no sense because Eren is the founder, he has all the power to do something. If he goes “I don’t want to die”, it’s hard to feel bad because he is literally a god and can change his fate.

Light should’ve wrote his name and put “dies of heart attack in 7000 years”
@ryanimaniacАй бұрын
You forgot the best part as to WHY Ryuk writes down Light’s name. In the manga, Ryuk explicitly states from the beginning that he won’t help Light and is only there to observe cause he was bored (unless you count him helping find the cameras early on but that was more for his gain than Light’s) and since Light pretty much felt mutual on that, him begging for Ryuk’s help essentially tells him that the “game” is over and there’s no more fun for Ryuk to have since the fun was simply Ryuk watching Light get himself out of more and more complex situations. It’s more or less the same reasoning in the anime but while in the anime Ryuk seems more sad that it’s over, manga Ryuk seems content just getting the last laugh as Light struggles to prolong his inevitable end Not to mention while the anime ends right at Light’s death, the manga gives a glimpse of how the end of Kira results in the world slowly going back to normal making Light’s crusade pointless

I think the anime is better since it shows good symbolism. Light dies in the middle of the stairs, symbolising how he will neither go to heaven nor hell
@quora_the_sith73454 ай бұрын
Ryuk lied when he implied heaven and hell exist, at the end of this very short it shows the death note rule that when someone dies they go to nothingness, which was compared to the same state as being unborn, and similar to the 2 black pages, TLDR: no, he went where everyone else went
@shrutikanu46304 ай бұрын
Finally im happy that im not the only one to think Manga ending was far better and according to the lore of Death Note
@missing84012 күн бұрын
Ryuk did not lie. Ryuk just didn't told the whole truth. The fact is that there are no heaven or hell after the person dies, apply not only for users of the Death Note but for every human living on Earth. Heaven doesn't exist and Hell doesn't exist. Everyone goes to Mu(無), Nothingness. There are panels at the end of manga that explains that when Light deduces that what Ryuk said might mean there is simply no heaven or hell at all, which Ryuk confirms, but only after Light told this himself, because Shinigami's cannot give that informations to humans just like that. Atheistic Non-existance would be troublesome for the majority of human-believers and etc, and it would cause some possible turmoil so Shinigami's have this rule

The author may pull weird series themes, but he ends it, imo, in a very fitting to the setting way. Like in platina end, the way that everything dies, then potentially resets, seems appropriate cause being introduced to such morbid and dark characters who were chosen to be god candidates right after facing death under different circumstances seems like a literal game of picking poisons not knowing what would happen next under a being with a touch of that dark humanity

Its funny because this was probably my second or third anime ever, and when I was very young, I idolized Light and was on Team Kira for "doing what needs to be done to make the world better for good people". I was looking through the lens of a child who had been victimized by evil before. Now that I am an adult, I see how messed up Light was, and I have completely different beliefs about how to handle crime. No real point to my comment here... It's just fascinating to me to observe. I rewatch this anime about once a year; solid storytelling for sure. It's definitely a top favorite of mine. When my GFs kid is a little older, I hope to watch it with her, too.

This just proves that even if you have a God complex, you shouldn't see everyone else as being below you and there is no escape from death, but one thing I noticed you got wrong, is that you said "everyone elses fate that Light killed," when one of the Death Notes rules is that a USER can't go to neither Heaven nor Hell, which doesn't apply to everyone killed with the Death Note, that rule only applies to a user of the book
