What makes them interesting to readers? How much sharing of trauma is too much?

Great video! My #1 tip for writing a memoir is to write for yourself first. When you do, you will find your authentic voice and can tap into your vulnerability in a real way.

That’s what I did. Figured out my word count and just wrote. Ended up doing 6000-9000 words per day. Finished my book in two weeks. Then edited.

Great channel. Just discovered it.Thank you for your help! I have a question about writing in the past. I started the first chapter writing in the present about the situation I was currently in. Then I started the story using the past. I am now at a point where so much has happened from that first chapter situation. So it's in the past but in the future if you look at that first chapter. What tense should I be using now?

Great videos on memoir - thank you! Do you have advice on how to write yourself as an interesting, intriguing, and empathetic character in a memoir? It seems there are a lot of pitfalls in memoir writing where the text just comes off as little more than "then I did this, and then I did this" and "here's an interesting detail about me" -- so boring! Would love to hear any tips you have on this. Thanks again.

Would writing in 1st person be terribly hard to do? I'm thinking of a memoir/YA novel. And this would be my first book.
@thelifeofawriter2 жыл бұрын
No, not hard at all.

Hi. As my in-progress memoir is about "road trip" events that happened 49-50 years ago, some fictional elements will be introduced to fill in memory gaps. Should I mention this in my Introduction/Preface? And should I insert a note within the text when I use a (probably) brief fictional element? Thank You.
@thelifeofawriter Жыл бұрын
Memoirs should be based on true events solely.

After the passage of so much time, how should one deal with memory lapses? Thanks.

You can acknowledge that you don't remember. Ask someone who might have been present for their recollection of the event. Or not write about the experience at all.

I am writing a memoir if I change that person’s name then there is no point to write my story just because of his name million’s of people will read my book if I hide his identity then it is worth trash because no body will read my memoir. Need your input.

If you have a middle name that you don't use often, use your middle name if you're thinking about using a pen name. It'll still be your real name but would be a name people aren't familiar with being associated with you.
