What you need for your home bar: 1. Two bottles of what you like. 2. A bottle each of medium shelf Scots Whiskey, Kentucky bourbon, and vodka for other people. 3. Ice. 4. Glasses. 5. The address of a bar down the street if they don't like what you've got.

I always keep ginger beer around for Moscow mules. I like mixed drinks better so I'm a little heavier on the mixers. I have one whiskey and a couple mixers for it for when I'm feeling it. One mule mug, and some lowball glasses for the mixed drinks. I keep some beers in the fridge too. Simple for me!

A lot of viewers needs to remember that this is a bunch of different bartenders giving their suggestions, you don't have to buy everything mentioned in this video. Chaim Dauermann gives the best description, you need some base spirits and some basic modifiers. That's really it.
@havtor0076 жыл бұрын
The way the video is edited gives the impression you need every single thing each of them mentioned. Basicly it is just terrible editing going on here.

No, just the basics. Gin, vodka, smokey and non smokey whiskey, rum (dark and light) and you'll have a good really basic setup that you can expand on. With those you have the base for a TON of drinks. You'll need some flavours and maybe sodas and perhaps some aditional alcoholic bottles for the more elaborate drinks thou.

Prowl your local Goodwill/Miracle Hill/Salvation Army centers regularly - you'll find glassware of every conceivable shape and size including cocktail pitchers, shaker sets, strainers, stirring spoons, muddlers, etc for pennies - they break or chip? Who cares, you paid pennies for them - toss them and go buy more. You can put together a stylish, vintage bar for literally nothing and you can spend the money that you save on quality spirits. You'll need a good quality gin, vodka, bourbon, scotch/whiskey, white tequila, white rum, sweet and dry vermouth, bitters, a small, good quality pairing knife, a peeler/zester, jigger measures, a small cutting board, fresh citrus, olives, pickled/brined onions and high quality cocktail cherries. Buy mixers (and liquor)in small(er)bottles (they last longer and mixers will retain their bubbles better.) With this basic set up you can make literally thousands of classic cocktails - don't forget a good, pocket sized cocktail guide. This sounds like a lot of stuff but most of it is relatively inexpensive compared to buying drinks in a bar. Cheers!

i think you should cash out on equipment and buy spirits/modifiers and make syrups for what youre gonna be making. you dont need to buy ten bottles, all the bitters and make all the things you could ever possibly need for every drink in existence. kinda like asking what foods you need to buy for your home kitchen, prepare for what youre gonna be making. your home bar doesnt need to function like a real bar with a menu of 20+ drinks, just tell whoever is coming over youre gonna be making daquiries or bees knees or whatever and thats it.

I only have Whisky... some Islay single malts, a few blended malts and always a cheap blended VAT69 for cooking uses and whisky based drinks. I'm lying, I've got a Gin bottle that my sister-in-law and my brother offered me on Christmas. And of course some kraft beer (national and import) and some good apple cider (Magners hits the mark for me). By the way, in my house it is absolutely forbidden to put rocks on whisky unless it is under 10€. A drop of mineral water, sure! Ice, big no no!

This video should be called "how to become an alcoholic"
@fifalafida7 жыл бұрын
I fully disagree with this. There's a whole world's difference between enjoying alcohol and being an alcoholic. As long as you aren't dependent on it, or using it just to get drunk, there is nothing wrong with having a few drinks
@umiluv7 жыл бұрын
willisverynice - I have a full bar in my home. Bitters; glassware; multiple scotches, gins, vodka; absinthe, rum, brandy, liqueurs, vermouth; tonic water, club soda, beer, wine, sake, soju, etc. All that and my husband and I rarely drink. We just enjoy being able to make/have a drink whenever we fancy it. I think I drink like once a quarter and it's almost always with a meal. I also use the alcohol mostly for cooking - beer for chilis and stews, wine for pastas, liqueurs for French toast. Just because you have a full bar doesn't mean you're an alcoholic. We enjoy collecting various alcohols and trying them and also entertaining guests with booze if they would like some.
@alpeggio5 жыл бұрын
An alcoholic obviously wouldn't bother making cocktails or fancy drinks he would just buy the cheapest booze he could find and drink that!

Man, this video is all over the place and not very helpful. I can imagine someone who needs help, watching this and coming out confused. Here's an idea, take one person, preferably the one with the most experience and most knowledge, and interview that one person! What is being presented here is a bunch of different opinions on one subject! That's like having a bunch of chefs explaining how to make eggs! Sure, they will all show you how to make eggs but their idea of making eggs will all be different, which in the end, is not very helpful at all.
