DOCTOR, TRY THIS. 10 YEARS AGO I RAN INTO A FELLOW A BAKER WHO HAD SUFFERED FOR MANY YEARS WITH MIGRAINE HEADACHES. AT THE TIME HE WAS TAKING IMITREX INJECTIONS AND TOLD ME THAT IT DIDN'T WORK ALL THE TIME AND THAT HE WAS THINKING OF COMMITTING SUICIDE, BECAUSE HE COULDN'T BEAR THE PAIN ANY LONGER. SO I WENT OVER TO THE PHARMACY DOWN THE BLOCK AND BOUGHT A DR. SCHOLES FOOT MASSAGER FOR $13.99 PLUS TAX. I WENT BACK TO HIM AND GAVE IT TO HIM AS A GIFT. AND INSTRUCTED HIM HOW TO USE IT. THAT HE WAS THE PUT IT OF HIS FOREHEAD, THEN MOVED DOWN TO THE BRIDGE AND BOTH SIDES OF HIS NOSE, AND THEN THE THE CHEEK ALTERNATING TO EACH SIDE. I TOLD HIM THE PREMISE BEHIND THIS IS TO VIBRATE THE FLUID LOOSE IN THE INNER SINUS CAVITY WHICH CANNOT DRAIN. WHICH FROM THE BACK PRESSURE OF FLUID BUILD-UP WAS THE CASE OF THESE MIGRAINE HEAD ACHES. WEEKS LATER WHEN I SAW HIM HE SAID I'D MARRY YOU IF YOU WERE A WOMEN. HE SAID YOU TOTALLY CURED ME, THAT HE NO LONGER GET MIGRAINE HEADACHE AND THE CURE WAS A SIMPLE FOOT MASSAGER. TODAY THEY NO LONGER MAKE THOSE DR. SCHOLES FOOT MASSAGER. Maddie Bullock ~ I can’t imagine what that must be like. I’ve had migraines for over 20yrs now. The frequency of occurrence went from 1 occasionally to now being pretty much weekly-and that’s with me being mindful of all my triggers. I thought weekly(lasting 1-5 days) was bad. I couldn’t fathom daily. I started Aimovig last month November and am now on my 2nd dose. I haven’t seen any improvement yet but I think it has to do with the timing(weather/bar pressure is a major trigger for me) I am optimistic however and I truly hope it works for you. All the best!

@@datsexycherry694u2nv I have been on this med for over two years now. Although I do not think it is a cure (at least for me) it has help me to go from 8+ headaches per month to 2-3 per month. And when I get them, a couple of Tylenols do the trick. Before, nothing would help. I have had some months with 4-5 headaches but they are far in between. So I would say definitely an improvement. I hope in the future pharmaceuticals come up with pills options as it is a bit of a pain to be scheduling things around the shots. I do not want to miss one. As per side effects, the only thing that has been noticeable is constipation. I have been using a natural laxative when it gets bad. Good luck.

I got a double dose of aimovig in December after trying for several months to get someone to believe that I actually needed treatment. I was having headaches pretty much every day for the past 3 to 4 years now and I tried Duloxetine nortriptyline gralise Gabapentin Topamax. I can't even see straight because of the medicine I take even though it's low dose and I tried clinical trials for something that's not even going to be approved for another two years. so since December my migraines have not been everyday anymore, but maybe every other day, and the intensity of the migraine has decreased enough that I can still function most of the time as opposed to not being able to leave the house. Since I now have a full-time job I need to be able to function and this seems to be helping tremendously .some days I feel normal all day long. I'm getting ready to take my third dose and I'm so happy about it. If this is Placebo effect then I'll take it. I might actually be able to Garden again for the first time in four years. It's funny now I can feel the other symptoms that I have now that I don't feel the headache all the time.

My wife has been using Aimovig - thanks to Dr. Krob's video, which is what she has been using for injection information. She had good results the first month, but did the injection late the second month, with not such good results. Some relief, but the last week - just injected it this morning - has had 4 migraines in 5 days. We're hoping to try 140mg in hopes that will have a better effect. Incidentally, one of the major problems we're dealing with is a really bad neurologist! I won't go into detail, but he is at a major state teaching hospital, and we had to contact the institution's ombudsman to get him to respond to messages. We tried going through our family doctor, but either the Aimovig company, or the insurance company, will only deal with a neurologist. Which is fine if you're Dr. Krob's patient, but can be a real problem in getting things like pre-approvals done in a timely manner.

Just injected my first dose, actually hurt more than I expected but nothing compared to a migraine. I was having up to 14 migraines a month, just 1 shy of qualifying for the botox treatment. Figured out that eggs were a food trigger and eliminated that from my diet and I did get a couple fewer a month. I have tried most of the preventatives but had such bad side effects or reactions to them that I would rather have the migraine :( During pregnancy they were mostly manageable with Tylenol, thank goodness. They did come back though, but since weaning they have gone right back to where they were before baby (8-12 per month). I have been managing fairly well with the tryptan but I still lose half to whole days each time I have a migraine. Heard about this medication and was practically in tears at the prospect of having something actually help prevent my migraines. Was pretty nervous about taking it, given my bad luck with side effects and having never given myself an injection, but fingers crossed this works! Wish everyone else trying this good luck too!

I had two sessions of Botox, of which neither helped me. I am 69 and have headaches since I was 16. Nothing has helped. The Botox was uncomfortable to say the least...I think it was 32 different "pokes". Well yesterday my Aimovig arrived. He decided to give me 140mg which is two of the autoinjectors. I gave them to myself in the office so he could make sure I had no allergic problems. It was no where as uncomfortable as the Botox. So after a day I can't tell you whether it has helped or not...Good luck to you Keela.

Hi Keela! I have a lot of patients who used to be afraid of needles and reluctant to get injections. One person who felt as you do came to the office last week with her Aimovig injector. I'm starting Aimovig today. During the past three years my migraines/cluster headaches have gotten progressively worse. I'm currently on Botox, 50 mg of Amitriptaline, 10mg of Timilol Maleate, take 500 mg Magnesium Oxide, 75 mg of Venlafaxine for depression and migraine and sleep with a CPAP machine regularly. I use a combination of Nartriptan, Zomig nasal spray and Aleave to abort migraines. I have recently started using a gamaCore S-300 vegas nerve stimulator to assist in the abortion of my headaches. The Effects of the Botox has been diminished recently. It seems to wear off after two months. Yesterday was my twelfth straight day with headaces and I have had two ED visits for headaces in the last 14 days. I was treated with a combination of fluids, benedryl, comprazine or dexamethasone when at the hospital. I'm currently on 4mgs of dexamethasone twice a day until I see a pain specialist. I believe that type of doctor to be a last resort. I also think I will end up on some form of anticonvulscent or antipsychotic medication to help control my headache problems. I am concerned about the side effects of such medications and continued steroid use to control major flare ups. Yesterday I had an MRI of my brain. Contrast was ordered by my neurologist, but the radiologist canceled it. I hope that to be good news, but have had a pyloplasty surgery in the last 14 years.the problems I am having a certainly y related to nerve problems in my neck and stress in my life. I have made major changes in my life and done physical therapy to hemp with those issues. Despite my efforts, my condition is continuing to degrade. I guess mine is a worst case scenario or close and hope my story could help you serve your audience.

I received my round of Botox about 2 weeks ago and my neurologist prescribed me Aimovig at that time. Took a minute for my insurance to approve it but I just gave myself the injection (so about 2 weeks after my Botox appointment). He never said it wasn't safe to take both around the same time. Ideally, I'll be able to take myself off of Botox if Aimovig works. So far there have been very few, if any, dangerous drug interactions with Aimovig. Then again, this drug is so new so who really knows.
@TheHeadacheChannel4 жыл бұрын
Hi, LesleeLane! That's a great question. Aimovig has a very specific mechanism of action. Botox also has a very specific mechanism of action. They don't directly overlap. People who have been able to use both have had good results and I haven't heard of anyone having unexpected problems.

That sucks! Check out my other video on “Which CGRP is Right for Me?” There are two other CGRP injectables besides Aimovig and all three have savings cards that _should_ cover almost all the costs of the medicines (for a limited time - like 12 months) even if an insurance company says “no”. Check the video, and no one with migraine should take “no” for an answer.

I also have a concern about potential autoimmune reactions because you are using an antibody. A neurologist that I follow regarding headaches had mentioned that as a potential thing that we might see later on down the road. I don't want to cause any more problems for myself than I already have. But I really would love to try this medication. Nothing else that I've tried so far has worked.

Hi, Angelblue! Thanks for letting us know you're out there. We'll be making an episode on side-effects of CGRP migraine prevention treatments (Aimovig, Ajovy, Emgality, Vyepti) soon. Subscribe to be the first to see it: tinyurl.com/SubscribeToTheHeadacheChannel ... and just so you know weight gain isn't likely to happen. 😍 All the best!

I spoke with my doctor about this at my last appointment. They unfortunately weren't optimistic about insurance coverage with the medication being so new. Fingers crossed it might be an option for me. All those questionnaires where they ask how many days do you have migraines, etc, etc. It's more like what days do I not have a migraine. Oy vey. The auto injector reminds me a lot of Copaxone, but a whole lot easier. That part is a relief. Thank you for the information. = )

My approach is: There's no room in the headache universe for outright pessimism. Being reasonably optimistic never hurt, and it usually helps. If you live in the US, the makers of Aimovig are providing just about everyone I can think of with 2* months of Aimovig for free.

My insurance approved it with a $70 co pay.... your doctor just have to provide a list of medications that you tried and did not help

aimovig access card is available on aimovig’s website. $5 copay for 12 months.

BUT ANY HAND HELD MASSAGER WILL DO. IF MEDICATIONS LIKE THIS IS CAUSING HAIRLOSS, THINK ABOUT WHAT OTHER DAMAGE IT MAYBE DOING TO THE BODY. I DISCOVERED THIS CURE AROUND 15 YEARS AGO.

I know this video is a couple years old now. My doc just offered me this treatment vs. nerve block which sounds way scarier to me. Do both of these treatments do the same thing?
@TheHeadacheChannel4 жыл бұрын
If your doctor was talking about occipital nerve blocks using a numbing medicine (one of the “-caine” drugs), I think the two are quite different. I have a lot of patients who get nerve blocks and a lot of patients who do Aimovig shots. For most people, I’d put medicines like Aimovig higher on the list of options than nerve blocks. One exception is pregnant women, who I recommend choosing the option with the least risk, and that’s the nerve blocks.

@@TheHeadacheChannel Very well. I am absolutely please with Aimovig! Ive only had maybe 2 migraines a month or less which is substantially less than any other drug I've tried. The injection does hurt, but whats a few seconds of pain and a little bump compared to hours of misery and possibly debilitated for days? I would recommend this to any migraine sufferer, it's totally worth it!

I got mine the other day and let me tell you that this causes me three days of constipation and I was hurting almost went to the hospital..I tried everything for relief but nothing was helping me. Took three bottles of prune juice and that did the trick ...Everyone has different reaction so I am just letting you all know what might happen to you. You have to take this for the first three months before you get any relief from your migraines and than every month. That's what was told to me my the company. I stop after the first one.

Constipation is a potential side effect, but you don't have to use it for 3 months for it to work. Hope you are finding success.

The constipation is no joke. Eat lots of fiber.
@TheHeadacheChannel3 жыл бұрын
Yup. Fiber, fluids and "fisical" activity are good for many kinds of constipation. In a handful of cases, people taking Aimovig get _really_ bad constipation. So, if you can't poop, see your doctor ASAP.

My wife does and is about to start Aimovig. It's not something we were concerned about. Are you worried about adverse effects combining the 2? They both target different areas so I wouldn't think there'd be an issue but I'll ask our GP next week.
@twh95416 жыл бұрын
David Reynolds - have not had any problem at combining the two. Because of the constipation effects of edible marijuana, combined with possible constipation effects of Amovig, DON’T eat marijuana edibles. I had been using MM for lower back arthritis. Severe migraines have been a problem my entire life. Amovig Gives me about a 70% reduction in my migraine frequency/pain.
@dangardave64426 жыл бұрын
@@twh9541 I think my wife would be happy with a 7% reduction. 70% would be absolutely life changing! Re the constipation, if it occurs it is easily taken care of.
