I’m a really slow gainer to minoxidil. 4 months into topical and I’m just now starting to see vellus hairs. I hate seeing all these people with great results in less than 3 months so I’m starting oral minoxidil next week. Hopefully all goes well and if I die from a heart attack at least I won’t be bald.

Very well explained, I have androgenetic alopacia. I am in my perimenoposal stage. I hhave been prescribed with oral minoxidil. I haven't been taking yet because I am scared of the initial shedding phase. But this video convices me I need to start my treatment.

I would have been very useful if you had talked about the unwanted hair growth (like on the forehead, back,...) caused by oral minoxidil and how that side effect can be eliminated (if possible at all).

I use dutasteride and oral minoxidil, and they are amazing drugs. I had severe diffuse thinning due to androgenic alopecia, and finasteride on its own wasn't strong enough to stop my hair loss. The off-label drugs are hard to get, but they work even better than the FDA-approved drugs (finasteride and topical minoxidil).
@dualscreengrant
@dualscreengrant 2 жыл бұрын
Shedding is normal, and four months is a very short amount of time to be on finasteride. It takes at least six months to determine whether finasteride is working, but it might take a year or longer. Maybe you should cut your hair short in order to make the shedding less noticeable. When I started minoxidil, I had a guard zero haircut. It technically doesn't help reduce shedding, but when your hair is too short to have noticeable shedding, you won't feel stressed about it.
@dualscreengrant
@dualscreengrant 2 жыл бұрын
It's normal to have shedding because you're still at only five months. There might be other contributing factors that cause excessive shedding, such as stress or poor diet. It helps to have a good primary care physician to help with your general health, a dermatologist or hair transplant surgeon to help with your hair loss drugs, and a mental health professional. I've been using anti-anxiety drugs for over 18 years. Lots of people need a mental health professional to help them deal with the psychological damage that comes from hair loss. I know I do, which is why I have a psychiatrist. For dealing with the shedding, my advice was to get a short or shaved haircut. If you don't want to do that but want a cosmetic solution for your diffuse thinning, then you should use hair fibers. I used to use Toppik, and it made my hair look much denser and thicker.

Hi Crystal! Thanks for this video that timely popped up on my news feed! My dermatologist (Dr. Temitayo Ogunleye) recently prescribed this for me. Fortunately I trust her recommendation but as someone who is hesitant against taking medications, it’s great to hear a confirming second opinion. I hope all continues to be well with you both personally and professionally and look forward to hearing more from you via your KZbin and LinkedIn pages. Best.

@@The_Eleventh_Sign So far, so miraculous!!! My hair grew in pretty noticeably within 3 months. I still monitor how “thin” I think my hair is and it’s back to the baseline of before my rapid hair growth (meaning not as thick as when I was a teen, obviously, but at least where I’d been in my mid to late 30s before my hair drastically took a nose dive). The only side effect I would say is that I have some slight increased facial hair on my cheeks (this isn’t too bad because I’d always had it but about a year before I started minoxidil, I’d done facial lasering and my skin was smooth as a baby’s butt, so it just went back to baseline but I’m a tad salty. Lol. However, the hair growth on the top of my hair is worth it). I have a pack of hair that’s growing thicker on the jawline of right side, but that could also be attributed to my recent diagnosis of PCOS. FINALLY REVIEW: 💯% worth it!!!

Oral minoxidil sounds good on paper, but they have to determine the lowest effective dose first - I've seen a study claiming effectiveness with 0.25mg daily. The lower the dose, the better because oral minoxidil has cardiovascular effects - lowers blood pressure, increases heart rate, edema.
@crystalaguhmd7333

Yes, the lowest effective dose is best determined by your dermatologist. Fortunately, most people tolerate it well with minimal side effects at low dose.

So let me get this right - for men, thinning is serious enough to use oral minox regardless of their age but for women, they need to be almost bald because they should accept just getting old. The patriarchal health care system in full swing, coming from a female doctor at that.

Nih did a radio-labled study on topical minox 2 x daily. 3 mg minox went systemically so the lack of transferase in the scalp is a non issue as the systemic leak of 3 mg is anyway converted in the liver. I seriously doubt there is any local effect at all...It seems like a gimmic in order to sell the topical stuff which mostly ends up on the pillow :)

I’m searching for this answer as well . 2021 I started using Foam Minoxidil and by December my hair was back. I discontinued the minoxidil and the thinning got a bit worse ( I found out that i wasn’t suppose to stop once i started). So then i started round 2 of Minoxidil Foam and then i started to look older in the face, had bags and darkness under my eyes. Did research found out it was taking collagen away. IMMEDIATELY i stopped and just had a hair transplant instead . Taking my supplements and my skin is back to normal. My main Question is will Oral minoxidil have the same effect. But Tbh i don’t know if i want to try it and find out anymore 😅

Hello Doctor, we need a video about people who live in countries that do not provide oral minoxidil, and if they can use a topical minoxidil solution for that, such as drinking 2-4 drops of the solution, each 1 ml contains 50 mg minoxidil , and 1 ml equals 40 drops, so 2 drops = 2.5 mg, 4 drops equal 5 mg, and if we look at the topical ingredients of Minoxidil, we can see propylene glycol, ethanol and water, all these ingredients cannot harm us because they are already made up in our food and drinks, can we do that?

I don't think so. Your beard alopecia is probably not androgenic alopecia, for which minoxidil is indicated. Consult with a dermatologist to determine the cause - it could be something else.

For some men on minoxidil, thicker facial hair is noticed and I have had some patients notice more ease growing beard hair. That being said, hair loss in this area can be from other forms of alopecia that are more difficult to treat so you should discuss this with your dermatologist.

Yes, in fact, I find that it is often better tolerated in older adults (between the ages of 50-70) than in younger adults just because younger adults are more likely to have low blood pressure. Also, certain blood pressure medications, like diuretics, can possibly lessen the chance of you developing fluid retention while on minoxidil. These are things you can discuss with your dermatologist to help you decide if oral minoxidil is a good option.
