Applying natural oils during scalp massages actually works in hair fall control. Oils such as coconut, onion, as well as rosemary can be particularly good. I combine a few drops of rosemary oil to my liitlexttra cocoonionn shampoo & natural hair oil, which this really helped in getting good hair growth.

Earlier, my hair used to fall when combing post-application of oil. However, since using this liitlllextra cooconnion hair oil, I see reduced hair on my comb. Now I see lesser hair fall after shampooing. I’m hopeful for anticipating positive results in about a month. Since around 60% of my hair fall has been controlled.

Was using minoxidil foam (Kirkland) twice a day for a month and ended up in the ER thinking I was having a heart attack. Its taken nearly 6 months to feel somewhat normal again despite stopping it. Panic attacks, anxiety, heart palps, and chest tightness were my symptoms. Also had incidents appear on an EKG. I've never had any heart issues prior. Be careful with this stuff. It's potent and it made my lose more hair in the areas I was using it. It causes a shedding phase once you stop, so beware of that.

I am a woman who began Minoxidil about 4 years ago. I am aging and my hair started to shed more frequently and I was able to see my scalp through my hair. When I began treatment I started with the woman's formula once a day, and didn't want to go to twice a day until I knew how I reacted to it. Well, I did so well on once a day that I just stayed there and have continued to fill out the thickness of my hair considerably. It was great to hear you agree that once a day is enough. Recently I decided to try the men's version once a day and I am not having any problems with that. My scalp seems quite thick (for me) but the bonus is that I have regrown my thinned out eyebrows (I did not apply it on my eyebrows), and surprisingly it has grown back without any grey! I normally have a few grey eyebrow hairs. The only negative is that they hairs are growing in at varying directions, so it takes frequent grooming to keep them in line. I would say that the minoxidil has restored my hair quantity back to when I was a teenager. What it has not done is make my individual hairs thicker, so the overall look is not as abundant as my teenage years, but no complaints at all from me. I just might go back to the women's formula because I don't want to take anymore than needed. As an aside, in the beginning I had some trouble with the scalp irritation and a greasy build up. I thought I was going to have to quit using it. I stopped it for a week or so but thought to try using the very famous brand of dandruff shampoo we have all seen for years. Ever since I did that I have stopped the irritation and build up and I began tolerating the Minoxodil just as before. I don't even use the dandruff shampoo every time, it is more like every 2-3 times I shampoo. Hope this info helps others!

Lot of good points here, in my case I was a hyper responder both in hair growth and side effects. I had crazy scalp hair growth within 6-7 months however the heart palpitations and chest pain were really severe, especially when laying down trying to fall asleep, I'm fit and healthy with normal normal/low BP. Never had anything like that before and after stopping it took about a year for those symptoms to go away completely. Even went for a holter monitor and echo cardiogram, in the midst of it, all normal. I was using 1 dose of foam at night only, so half the recommended amount and I still had that kind of reaction. Now I'm just on topical finasteride with no issues, but man I miss the results from the minoxidil. Finasteride just has me holding ground not regrowing.
@haku0103
@haku0103 Жыл бұрын
Minoxidil is a vasodilator. This means it's gonna lower your blood pressure esp if taken orally. Hence your palpitations since your heart is compensating by increasing the heart rate, and the fact that you are normal to low bp to begin with. It's the same concept that you shouldnt take viagra if you have low bp in the first place.

Just want to ask incase I missed it, so you mention to work up the oral minoxodil slowly overtime. How much would you work it up to assuming no side effects? What's the end "goal" in mg would you recommend? I unfortunately am a non-responder to topical minoxodil (tried liquid and foam version, on top of combining it with microneedling at a depth of 1 - 1.5mm). I've used it consecutively for over a year now in combination with Finasteride 1mg tablet daily. My hair loss has completely stopped, but I think I'd attribute that to Finasteride. I'm still using Minoxodil just for the sake of using it, even though I don't think I've necessairly seen much results. I was considering switching to Oral minoxodil and seeing if it helps.

Weirdly I’ve had far fewer issues with finasteride than with minoxidil. If anything, finasteride improved my mood, maybe because the reduction in my levels of such a powerful androgen gave me a bit more clarity and sort of took the edge off. Minoxidil actually messed me up much more, I had headaches, palpitations, anxiety, etc. It should be noted that I have a history of palpitations and anxiety anyway, but I hardly ever get headaches, and the the anxiety was particularly bad with the minoxidil. I’m lucky that my hair-loss isn’t that bad, and I’m comfortable just slowing it down/stopping it worsening for now. I don’t want this to be interpreted as fear mongering or anything. Minoxidil is just a medication like any other, and people should feel comfortable trying it out and seeing how they feel. It’s highly highly unlikely that side effects will persist after stopping with minoxidil.

@Fluff-gl6yr

@@eileengreenspan730 From topical minoxidil or finasteride? It makes intuitive sense that you could get headaches with minoxidil since it’s a vasodilator after all, but I have absolutely no idea by what mechanism fin could induce headaches, not that it’s impossible or anything, it’s just that I can’t think of how it would do that. It’s worth keeping in mind that the headaches could be caused by stresses surrounding the medication. With finasteride, nocebo related side effects are far more common than direct side effects, and most of the direct side effects seem to either get better with continued use or through dose titration. Unfortunately, I don’t know quite as much about minoxidil since I don’t use it any more, but I’d definitely suggested bringing this concern up with a doctor if at all possible. Good luck with your hair! :)

I had been using topical minoxidil (Rogaine) for almost 15 years. It worked for me, but the formula made my hair brittle, and I always had a lot of breakage and split ends. I think it was the alcohol. I have long, very fine, very thin hair. I do not color or perm my hair, so the only possible culprit was the Rogaine. I tried both the liquid and the foam. I never had a problem with skin/scalp irritation. My two main complaints were that it made my hair look greasy, so I could only use the Rogaine at night (and wash it in the morning), and while I had more hair volume, the hair was damaged. It was also an annoying routine - having to apply and wait for it to dry before going to sleep. A few months ago I started to use oral minoxidil and oral spironolactone (via prescription from my dermatologist). I did not get massive shedding - on the contrary, my hair actually stopped shedding! It has made a massive difference! I have been shedding a lot since my 20s. I thought it was normal. Sometimes, I would get handfuls a day. I attributed all that hair to the fact that it's long, so a few strands would seem like more. Now, I realize I was losing so much every day. I continued to lose hair even while taking the topical Rogaine, but it was not as much as before. I don't know if it's the oral minoxidil or the spironolactone that stopped my shedding, but I'm thrilled. An added bonus is that I no longer have to spend so much money on Rogaine. Now, I spend that money on bond repair for my hair. I use K18, and it works, too. If I had known about oral minoxidil before, I would have switched years ago.

If you "level out" as it were, and don't see more hair returning - can you cut down on the liquid top application to a "care and maintenance" level and keep to - I don't know - 3 times a week maybe? And still keep the hair you have regenerated? And finally: the product I have recommends to cease the use of the product after 60 years of age. Why is this? Generally if it’s COMPLETELY bald and you have no hairs even if very fine hair,you can’t really bring back dead zones. You’re best bet would be microneedling once a week in conjunction with minoxidil. This apparently is very good for “dead zones” but you still need some hair even if it’s barely visible. was having amazing results on topical minoxidil until one day my scalp just heavily dryer up and what I had gained started to fall out☹️ scalp was in a very bad way. Stopped using,, was bad for month or so and then when great again just on the finasteride which IMO is brilliant can’t beat it. 🙏

Thank you for all the detailed information that now has cleared so many questions I had. I had the high blood pressure and the palpitations and headache which I didn’t even think it could have been the minoxidil. I’m still on the first week, so I will persist to stay on it once a day and hopefully the side effects disappear. I have been trying to get my GP to refer me to a dermatologist, but I have not been successful.

Why did the smaller dose oral minoxidil and topical finasteride take years to hit the market? Because 5mg generic finasteride and a pill splitter began to cut into Big Pharma's margins. So they delayed the launch of these "new" products as long as the previous products made them rich.

I think the biggest issue I had with it was the weight gain. I must have added roughly 15-20 lbs after starting using minoxidil, especially around my sides and chest. I started getting bad headaches and irritation on the scalp too from dosing too much, tuning down the dosage helped resolve those issues, but I still couldn't shake the weight gain. Overall, I didn't find using minoxidil worth it. I'd rather be a healthier, more preferred weight with less heart disease risks than worry about having a full head of hair.

I've been on Finasteride too, it doesn't really seem to help at all on its own -- the combination of fin and min was really the key for me. I stopped losing hair and even grew some back after about a year with the 2 in combination. I just am kind of tired of the shitty side effects, and my hair is a bit patchy still so even with the medication I can't have a decent hair style besides just a generic cut.

@@ThatsMrFrank to be fair, everyone is different. From what I hear there are people who have success with just finasteride. I was not very receptive to it, but I responded well to minoxidil, excluding the side effects. Just know that its pretty unlikely it will regrow any lost hair. I had a small bit of regrowth around the crown of my head, but my widow peaks and front-top area never recovered, and without minoxidil the hair I had left is slowly falling out.

what if you have to stop minoxidil before hair transplantation and resume after it’s more then a month pause, is that critical and how hair reacts to it, does it recover or you will most likely start loosing hair quicker regardless of resuming minoxidil? Thanks!

Another question about monoxidil regarding shedding: I shed many hairs over my first intakes, but those hairs where there to begin with before taking minoxidil. Once regrown: do those shed hairs also depend on Minoxidil dosification in order to stay? Have those hairs become Minoxidil dependant, while previously they were not?

Hi docs. I have been using minoxidil topical 10 percent for almost 2 years. Before which I was using 5 percent for about 10-12 years. Also on finastride 1mg. Have also undergone 5 sessions of PRP. But I dont see a big difference in my hair growth. Bald patchy areas still exist in abundance and its getting worse. My question- should I continue using minoxidil forever or stop at some point if I feel it isnt working?

Hi Dr. Jayaprakash and Knudsen, I’m interested in trying Minoxidil for hair loss, but I have some concerns about potential side effects, especially related to blood pressure and the heart. I’ve heard that in some cases, topical Minoxidil can cause fluid retention around the heart. Is this risk associated with topical application of Minoxidil, or is it mainly a concern with oral use? Thanks for your insight!

Dear Doctor, I have been diagnosed with FPHL grade 2 and I have been on oral finasteride 2.5mg (for 1 year) and oral Minoxidil (started with 0.0625 for 2 weeks, 1.25 for 2 weeks and 2.5mg for 9.5 months). I have seen increased hair shedding for about 8 months, and it continues. (At the same time as I started full dose Minoxidil ie. 2.5mg, I got A cell PRP also done). Will the hair shedding EVER reduce or stop? Will increasing or reducing the dose of Minodixil help to reduce hair shedding? Is the hair shedding seen with Minodixil use proportional to the dose? So far I have had no side effects from Minodixil with 2.5mg for 9 months. Is it that I may never benefit from using Minodixil? Actually, my hair fell out with the bulbs and clogged the drain. Even before I started the treatment it used to come out in clumps. I read that if the hair come out in clumps it cannot be andogenetic alopecia or FPHL. When I asked my doctor he said that it could also have a component of Telogen Effluvium. Pls, advice what should I do?

So you touched on the different size of hair loss area but you didn't talk about how to use a half cap's worth of foam on a large area. How do I do that? I don't have enough - I'm thinking about focusing on different parts of the area per day so as to rotate the foam - I want to use it further but I run out of foam. My dermatologist examined me and suggested I use minoxidil 5 /once a day, so the area is not so large as to be beyond the help of minoxidil. How do I make it last on all parts of the area? Do I use as much as I need to put foam on the scalp where it's needed - which might increase side-effects? Do I rotate which scalp part gets foam each day? How do other people do it? I've researched but either found people using it way too freely or people who have a very small area of focus. Thanks - I just started using it 2 days ago so I appreciate your advice!

@@outrotear7 Don't instantly stop using minoxidil, try to find the possible causes of your hair loss, it can be your lifestyle, your diet, your hair being dry and brittle for several reasons or genetics Only apply minoxidil once a day, it doesn't increase it's efficiency that much by doing it twice a day, it will only make you more dependent and it will make it harder to quit Once you consider you achieved a good result, gradually decrease your use of minoxidil over several months
