This is the first time with Kune Kune pis for our family. I've raised pigs before and most all of them are gentle per my experience. Thank you for the video and your knowledge and experience with yours.❤

You don’t need to have a sacrificial piece of grass you can just fence of a little bit of Land, and they will clear it for growing veggies. I don’t have kunekune pigs yet, but I have done lots of research.

Thanks for sharing your experiences with this breed. I am just hanging out relaxing at end of my Xmas holiday, listeningto people talk about pigs. I want to have two or three someday. Joel Salatin talks about pig farming as well. I must say you talked most about a specific breed. Very informative 🌈😃🤙

Thank you for listening! My own experience is predominantly with Kunes and they are quite different to many other breeds :-) I really like them!

This is a great video! we purchased our first trio of Kunekunes this year and are looking forward to piglets as well in 2021! We got our first two girls in the spring and were amazed how little they needed feed wise when they were out on the grass (they really are a grazing pig). We have raised Tamworth and Berkshire pigs in the past and the feed bills just make it impossible to do anything other than raising out piglets for the freezer (not super sustainable when those breeds keep becoming more rare...). When the weather turned cool this fall we did find they started to dig. Not super deep but it was amazing how much area they (particularly our young boar) could turn over in a short time. So we are in the same boat of needing to figure out managing their digging during the wet months. Anyways just wanted to say we think this is good practical advice for anyone thinking of giving the breed a try!

Thank you for your kind words! I am glad we aren't the only ones having them make a mess in the winter.

Great video Dana, I had heard of the breed before but not much on the details. Did not know they are a Kiwi breed and grass based diet.

how much water per day in hot/cold weather?
@FantailValleyHomestead
@FantailValleyHomestead 2 жыл бұрын
To be honest, I haven't measured it, they drink to thirst so will take more when it is hot or if they are eating dry food than if it is cold or they are just eating lush grass.

How bad do pigs make the yard stink ?
@FantailValleyHomestead
@FantailValleyHomestead Жыл бұрын
it depends on a lot of things - how much space they have, what kind of ground it is, how wet it is. I wouldn't want them right next to my house, but they don't stink up the place either.

So it's better to have two smaller areas that are wired off and move them back and forth than to have one large area?

I hope you are not keeping two large rabbits encased in such a small hutch because that is animal cruelty. I can't tell if they are locked in there or free to roam.
