I love your skate videos. As a parent with two kids in hockey, I appreciate being able to have some knowledge about skates before the next skate purchase season.

A few things about the HZDRUS line that was briefly touched on in terms of the type of player you are. If you are a powerful skater, heavy skater or a heavy (170+ lb) player (heavy skater and player are two different things) then you need to stay away from the 5 & 7 and move into the 9, Pro or have a custom pair made. The original run of the HZDRUS 5 & 7 lines are brittle and the boots break if you are one of the 3 types of players I mentioned. If you are light on your feet and not an aggressive, punishing type of skater then the 2 lower lines may work for you. True is coming out with a newer boot design (spring '24) to offer more flexibility in the boot to accommodate those types of skaters and make the boot less brittle and susceptible to cracking and breaking. Again, the breaking is not a problem for everyone, but those who are that aggressive, power, heavy skater, you need to look at a higher end product. ***This part comes with a huge double thumbs up for True customer service*** My added review is coming from experience with this brand and line of skates. My son is a big, heavy, power skater and at the beginning of the 23-24 season (Aug '23) he had grown 3 skate sizes so we went with the HZDRUS 5 due to his growth and trying to be economical. He broke the boot within a month of owning this line. The boot cracked from the front heel rivet to the bottom of the logo. The boot was unusable. True Warranted them and we paid for an upgrade to the Catalyst 7x (mid Oct '23). Within a 50 days of having these, he cracked the outside of both of the Cat7 boots and the heel cup of one. Took those in and those were warranted straight across into a pair of the HZDRUS 7x (late Nov '23). By early Jan '24, he had again broken the HZDRUS 7 in 3 places. On one boot, the heel above the blade carrier was cracked out and spongy and the same outside cracks in the boots appeared. Every time the store looked at them, they called and sent pictures to True and there was no questions asked. I even offered to video and/or have the True rep come watch him skate to see if there was something that we could offer them. My son was lucky enough that True warranted him into the new HZDRUS Pro that he has had now for a little over a week that has seen him put 4 hours of practice and 6 tournament games into them. He says that the feel from the 7x to the Pro model is night and day. The fit and feel overall on the Pro model (not custom) is great compared to the previous models and absolutely loves the skates so far. All that being said, True's warranty is second to none. By far better than the other manufacturers and they back their products like no other. The simple fact that they warranted 3 pairs of broken skates that came in without question is above and beyond any product manufacturer that I have come across for hockey equipment. This reason alone I would recommend the True brand. Now, your feet have to fit the skate, but if they do, I can't say enough to encourage a serious look into this brand of skate.

Sounds more like True skates are not meant to take the stress of hockey. Could explain why only 1.7% of NHLer's use True. But somehow they manage to make solid goalie skates

I wear Aycane socks in my skates. Pricey but work great. I like the new True line. These skates look amazing in my opinion. I know many don't like the design of True but I think they look really unique. A friend of us went with the lowest price point. Her feet are very sensitive and skates from Bauer make her feet hurt quickly. She is very happy with her new hzrdus. When I bought my Prototypes my retailer did not have the hzrdus yet. Also not the new FT6 from CCM. I would have loved to try them.

Sounds logical, reasonable and transparent! 😃👍 About the socks: skating on the ice is just in winter for me - so socks are a must. Inline skating: I have less slippage, less rubbing/rush and better power transfer without socks. The most comfortable (for me) and best fitting are donut footies without socks.

My SVH skates had HZRDUS tongues and tendon guards on them. The tendon really doesn’t flex much imo, most of the movement comes from the fact the tongue is divided on.

Why is no one talking about what's going on with the Catalyst line? They're half off at every vendor, with at least one unresolved workmanship issue. They're selling skates with crooked holders that instantly warp blades, a problem that came up a year ago when they came out, so it's clearly being done knowingly. Yes, they're very anatomical, they fit like a glove, and they're utter trash. I thought $380 for top tier skates was an awesome deal, until I stepped on the ice and felt the wobble like an out of balance car tire. I returned them and paid full price for a pair of Bauers. $500 for mid tier skates, but they're sound, solid, quality skates. No, thank you.

What do you mean? True is releasing a new Catalyst line (catalog is already out) so they’re discounting the old model. Same thing happened with the TF line before the Hzrdus came out to replace it. The crooked holders were (and still are) replaced for free under warranty. Do you not remember the last generation of CCM Tacks where CCM had to recall all skates for incorrectly mounted holders which warped the steel? Manufacturing issues can happen to any brand

i skate with no socks. i used to skate with socks all the time but always felt like my skate was a little loose. i tried without socks and instantly they felt tight and in place. I also now find when skating with socks it feels off. to me its like knitting with gloves on. its hard to feel whats going on and easy to mess up

I don’t like the gimmicky colours and textures, that’s too like Bauer, but True skates are very good, and I now see quite a lot about in south England. I bought TF9 on discount, to replace my Bauer customs. They are superb, far more performative than the Bauers.

The TF range had W and R. The TF9 is very formable, far more than Bauer skates, so they do cater quite well for a range of feet, but not all of course. The TF9 in 6.5R fit me better than Bauer. I don’t know if Hzrdus and Catalyst have different shapes.

I have HZRDUS 7X's in size 8.0 Regular. Something I don't think he covered in this video, the tongue is attached with velcro at the toe cap, so I was able to attach Adrenaline Design Powerfoot Performance Inserts at the front of the tongue and then slide the tongue forward more to take up that space above my toe. The skates also come with two different sized pieces of foam to attach to the retail insoles for people with arches. For my arch (I found out I have a long, high arch,) someone at my local Pure Hockey store had me try different Superfeet Carbon insoles until we found a size that works for my arch (fun fact, don't buy them based only on your skate size, my arch works better with a size 13.0 fricken insole, I had to cut a ton of it off to fit my 8.0 skates. Guy at the store definitely knew what he was talking about.) I also attached the retail True arch foams to that Superfeet insole to make it just a tad higher and more snug. The rest is so formable when you bake AND SHRINK WRAP around your heel, you'll get the perfect fit. Different approach from the Bauer Fit system, but I think it's great for the majority of people.

@@johnpinter7866 Good point, I tried the stock insoles, and my old Bauer Speed Plates. After 5 minutes on ice I knew the Speed Plates were massively better, the stock insoles just weren’t comfortable. My TF9 were almost unwearable unbaked, very tight at the side of the forefoot. After baking, just a bit tight. After 3 skates, near perfect.

I love your videos but why do you like these skates so much? They are terrible. They feel like a ski boot. They have a very forward pitch. I will say I do think they have a good blade holder. Of course the fit is 2nd to none. They put a ton of gel and your foot swims in it.
