My 16yo is my guinea pig of hockey gear. Thru the years he's switched from Bauer sticks and skates to CCM. He's gone from stock radius steel to triple profile, from breezers to girdle, from cage to bubble back to cage, and from stock insoles to Superfeet. Easy to see he's under the "willing to try new things" category.

I am completely new to Ice Skating and I was first time on ice one week ago. I am 49 years old and I have been doing (Ironman) Triathlon for 25 years. But now I want to learn something totally new for me and totally different from Triathlon 😁 In one week I have been on Ice already 15 hours (approximately 3 hours daily) and I have a lot of fun on ice 😁 I found your channel very interesting and it was so helpful for me all your advices how to choose right skates (size and type/ model) I bought a pair of Bauer S22 Supreme Comp Skate Sr 23/24 in size 10 and I am pretty sure that is correct size for me as I am since I started, 3 hours on ice every day and I have no issues with them. My big issue is “only” how to learn to skate but I feel that I am every day a little bit better 😊 What do you think about my choice of skates? 🙄😁 Regarding brands I like Bauer (I don’t know why) but I found CCM JetSpeed FT 6 Pro very attractive 😍 CCM vs Bauer vs True is to me as in cycling there is always a “war” between Shimano, Campagnolo and SRAM. As beginner I don’t know a lot about Ice Skates but as I understand it Bauer has a dominant position but everything what I learned and seen in a few weeks since a become interesting to the topic it seems like CCM is on the way to brake this dominance of Bauer. Anyway both of them are probably extremely good so it is about personal preference I believe. Thanks for great content I I would like to see more content for us beginners too😊 Greetings from Sweden

Been a Bauer-Boy for the last 25 years; after Jofa disappeared. Last season I bought new shinpads from CCM; few months later I'm kitted all CCM; tremendous gear, way ahead of Bauer. And this season I changed from Bauer to True-skates, holy sh**t, best skates ever, love them to death!

Started with the Bauer Supreme S27 and they were great skates. As I moved on in the years. I decided to try out CCM’s I got my first pair back in 2022 and they were Tack’s AS-580 and I loved them ever since. I always had my eyes on Jetspeeds and moved on to the Xtra Pro and they are my current skates with T-Blades as the holders and they’re literally perfection. I got to try the Bauer Machs from one of my friend and let’s just say those are my dream and perfect skates. All in all, the quality of CCM’s are just a tad bit better as for having more stability.

for me, i’m a big believer in trying new sticks, just to see if there’s a better option out there. skates, not so much. not because i’m superstitious, but because i’m under the firm belief that your skates should last you a good year-two years, maybe even three depending on how much you’re skating.

I've worn top of the line skates for about 15 years now. My first ever pair of top of the line skates were Nike Bauer Supreme One95's. Really great skates. I switched to top of the line Grafs a few years later and loved them. Then switeched again to Vapor APX when they came out. They hurt my feet a little at first but the responsiveness I found in them were unbelievable. Then I moved to Vapor 1X skates and now I'm currently in Jetspeed FT2. I have tuuks put on every pair I buy, I just can't move away from them lol. I haven't gotten a recent top of the line skate. I have narrow feet and want to like the FT2s so badly but my ankle just feels so uncomfortable in them. I've had them baked and re-baked as well as punched out a couple times and it still feels like my ankle bones are surrounded by rocks. My next pair may be Hyperlite 2s, unless I feel the FT6 pros are a huge upgrade from the FT2s

I believe it boils down to more than just brand loyalty; personal preference plays a significant role. After almost a decade, I recently purchased a new pair of skates. Having participated in competitive men's leagues 1-2 times a week over the years, I needed to replace my worn-out skates. Despite trying on various brands, my love for Bauer skates continues. There's something about the feel, quality, and durability of Bauer skates that won me over, and I ended up choosing the X5 Pros, which I absolutely love. Regarding other gear, going all out may not be necessary unless you're seriously committed to competitive hockey. However, i believe its a good idea to experiment with different sticks to find the one that suits your playing style.

I had Bauer 2S Pro customs for five years. Recently I saw True TF9 for £340 with a 30 day money back warranty if not happy. So I bought a pair, fully expecting to return them. Wow! They completely trash my Bauers. They are as comfortable, but the performance is astonishing. I love doing edge drills such as power pulls, crossrolls and Russian stroking. And in the Trues I find it easier to do these drills, and I do them much better. I was even showing off by doing powerpulls while tapping a puck from side to side. They have so much grip I’ve gone to a 1” hollow, it’s like skating on rails. In the first scrimmage in them I got an excellent goal, my best ever. True only did customs until relatively recently, so all the youngsters are mostly in Bauer and maybe CCM. I predict that we will see more and more younger NHL players in True skates. Bear in mind that 10% share includes older players who could not buy True when they played in juniors.

I'm a Bauer guy, but I'm willing to experiment with other brands DEPENDING on what the equipment is. For Skates, I stay true to my Bauer Supreme M4s, since I've found them very comfortable and fitting for my powerful strides and style of skating. I may be willing to try True Customs or CCM Tacks, but IMO it's tougher to get used to new skates so if my Supremes bit the dust, I'd prolly stick with Supremes for my next skate. Depending on how much I've saved, I might upgrade to the Supreme M5, try out the upcoming Supreme Shadow, or see if I can get discounted Machs. For sticks, right now I'm not too picky, especially since I usually get discounted or discontinued sticks (I'm a cheapskate lmao). Currently use the discontinued Bauer Supreme sticks and the budget Bauer X, but I've been willing to try out the CCM Jetspeed, CCM Tacks, Bauer Nexus, and Warrior Alpha lines (I'm a mid-kick and hybrid-kick kind of guy). If I had money to burn, might give the Proto R or the FT Ghost a spin too. Protective (shins, pants, gloves, shoulders, elbows, neck guards, wrist guards, jock) tbh I'm not too picky with. Most of my protective stuff is Bauer (even my neck guard), though I alternate between a Bauer jock and a CCM jock, and I wear Warrior wrist guards. That being said, I've been willing to try CCM, True, and Warrior protective equipment simply because I find it easier to adapt with protective than with skates. Maybe if my old-ish pro-stock Bauer pants meet their maker, I'm willing to experiment with other pants (maybe secondhand pro-stock as well to save money) For helmet, right now I have a Bauer IMS helmet (since I'm still a newbie and I play in non-checking leagues) and I might be upgrading to a Bauer ReAkt 85 when that one ain't cutting it anymore, but I ain't too picky about it either. I've tried the Bauer ReAkt, CCM Tacks, and Warrior Covert lines, and I've got nothing but good things to say about all of them. That being said, I ain't a fan of the Hyperlite helmet since it looks like something that a Doctor Who villain would wear 😅. Bottom line, I'm a Bauer guy who's willing to try multiple protective gear and sticks from other brands, but I'll be skating in Bauer Supremes until I hang up my skates for good.

When i look around at the skate and stick usage in the midget, junior level and also in the beer/garage league, i see more players use ccm than bauer and barely true for skates. As for the stick usage in the beer league level is mostly sherwood then ccm and bauer, for midget and junior it seem to be 50/50 ccm bauer!

I have never been asked to fix a bauer or ccm skate at the rink, True...several times I've had parents come to me asking for a screwdriver to reattach some part that has fallen off their true skates. There is a section of the population that can put on Bauer's or CCM or True and like the fit. And there are those that are only comfortable in just 1 of the 3. I don't see a lot of Supreme Fit 3 players going anywhere, it may happen, but what skate is comparable in fit?

I've had my CCM FT6PROS for about 3 months now, with the recent addition of the Marsblade I2 holder and DLC blade (rocker set at 20 ft,). I coach 3 teams my kids are on, play beer league and practice with an organized adult group with a coach and two goalies. On average I'm on the ice 12 times a week. Over the xmas break, my kids were in an intense 12 hour camp spread out over 4 days. On Xmas Eve, I drove 320 km to find a youth and junior size of the FT6 pros for my sons and was able to find the right sizes at 2 stores. I helped coach the camp and didn't feel any pain whatsoever over the 12 hours being on the ice. That same week, my kids and I set a record of time on the ice of 17 hours for myself and 21 hours for the kids. My sons told me the FT6PROs are incredible skates. No blisters, foot pain. Next level skates for real, I highly recommend these skates. 🇨🇦

After three decades of molded skates, my foot stretched too much, and I upgraded to a pair of Graf skates. I wanted to get their top 9035 skates, but their Graf Canada licensee then went bankrupt and dealers quit selling them while Graf HQ was trying to rebuild its network. I too wound up with CCM AS1s, and they have been fantastic. I’m just a stick time skater, but they give me so much confidence when skating. If you are going to splurge on any piece of gear, spend the big bucks on the best skates you can afford.

I’ve been a long time Bauer user, now I predominantly use CCM beside my skates, pants, and helmet, that being said I’ve been switching around more of my gear because I believe the quality in Bauer’s products have declined. I’m sure if I bought a new pair of Bauer customs I’d like them (currently in a pair of 2019 Bauer 1x customs) but my next pair will be ft6 pro customs mainly because CCM has a better custom process and options. Anymore it just seems like Bauer is just riding on past reputation rather then living up to the potential they have. CCM is starting to leave them in the dust.

I have played this game for a VERY long time (50+ years). I agree with you on playres reluctance to change, especially when you are older. I grew up skating in Tacks and Super Tacks. I loved my Super 301 Daust back in the 80's. I skated in those until they literally fell apart. Then I moved to Bauer and have been in them since (1990's). I have been a big fan of the Vapors. I also like Bauer gloves. I just feel like Bauers quality has really fallen in the last `10-7 years. Lately, it is aweful. I got a pair of their 2Xpros. The palms went out in 12-18 months. I expect more out of a +$200 pair of gloves. Bauer ingored me when I wrote to them and compalined. I have started to move to True. I like their gloves (and they are lasting longer than the last pair of Bauers I had), and, I stated to use their sticks. When prices keep on increasing and quality takes a dump, It becomes easier to make changes (especially when you are not getting paid to wear the product). True in the US is running very good sales on their skates. I just ordered a pair. Looking forward to giving them a try. Thanks Bauer for changing your Tuuk holder, charging extra for steel, and not letting my old steel be compatible with the new holder. (You drop +$1000 on a new pair of skates and you have to pay another +$100 for blades...REALLY?!). Stop rippng people off. Bauer is dead to me.

Those were some of the worst CCM skates on the planet regarding fit. So glad they improved their foot last. Those things either fit well... Or killed your feet. Nothing in-between

I honestly disagree with your opinion on the FT6 pro. Its a very comfortable skate and Im sure the performance is just as good, however the weight killed it for me. 51g heavier per skate for me compared to my old 2spros (no blades or insoles) which have still been the best skate Ive owned so far. Until CCM gets the weight down its not pushing the edge of performance. Theres a reason Connor McDavid doesnt use them. I am tempted to look into the Bauer Machs.. I still think the FT6 pro is a great skate, very comfortable... but it's just not the best skate possible. but just my $.02

Its not as simple as saying well theres a reason why McDavid doesnt wear them... when hes worn the same model of skates since 2015... Theres also a reason why Matthews went from being a Bauer athlete to CCM endorsed one... as have many players in recent years for that matter. McDavid is a CCM athlete and he does loyally wear CCM products including skates, Its just that its a much older model of CCM skate that he seems to have fell in love with. What McDavid wears still to this day is the top of the line CCM Jetspeed skates from 2015! Mcdavid is also known to use an OG super-tacks stick, older FT1 gloves and a bunch of other outdated protective equip... this is nothing new in the world of hockey. So again, its just not as simple as saying well theres a reason why this person doesnt wear/use this product... it doesnt automatically mean the newer product is inferior, it simply means there is somethng specific that McDavids sees in the 2015 jetspeeds as integral to his game play style and CCM hasnt been able to duplicate or surpass the expectations he personally has... In McDavids eyes his jetspeeds are superior to literally every model released after it, not just the lastest FT6s... but there are still tons of other CCM athletes that have worn and fell in love with the newer FT models. and just to note Mcdavid does get spotted playing and practicing with various new and unreleased CCM products from time to time... im guessing its due to a mix of him fullfilling his contract obligations to wear (promote) the new products offerings so many times per season and CCM heavily pushing him to try out there latest and greatest product offerings despite fully knowing hes most likely to return right back to the older equipment... being such an elite player looking for every advantage, im sure hes naturally curious to try the newest equipment out for himself at least once or twice, before he writes it off as not being for him. but also as such an elite player, what he is looking to get out of his equipment is vary specific and dialed in to him personally. Of course CCM would love to see McDavid playing in there lastest products (as all hockey companies would) but at the end of the day as long as the best player in the world is wearing CCM, CCM is happy. www.hockeystickman.com/blogs/hockey-stick-alerts/gear-spotting-older-models-in-the-stanley-cup-playoffs www.geargeek.com/team/edmonton-oilers/connor-mcdavid

@@TysonHook-22- I 100% agree.. all I'm saying is the FT6 pro while being a good (and in all honesty the most comfortable pair of skates) its not the best due to the weight. Like Hockey tutorial said... opinions wont always be the same... Love the channel!

100% agree. Bauer has stagnated in their skate design and CCM/True are actually innovating. I expect a CCM trend coming when the old Two-piece Bauers age out and the pro’s see the light. I’m a CCM whore and I can’t wait for the oldest brand in hockey to get the attention they deserve and didn’t pay for like Bauer has for 30 years. The only reason Bauer holds majority in skates is because of Nike 15 years ago.

Hate the vapor skates right now. Broke down faster then anything else we've used. Bauer has dropped quality massively with that range. Supreme is far better as of 2023. See what happens this year.

We've become spoilt for choice. Models, fits, colours, etc. Marketers clutter our heads with unnecessary information. Manufacturers produce more and more new products that fail faster than you get them to the rink.

Gear geek is total bullshit. The only way you can tell what a stick really is is by looking at the manufacturer barcode sticker that comes on a new pro stock stick. Half the the build won’t even matc he the graphics. There are so many variables.
