I had a female chi for years and she was never caged, she had the option with everything she was suppose to need but she always wanted to be away from it. Never had her harnessed or anything she always just kept around even bringing her to my cottage which is an island surrounded by water. I have experience with many lizards and these guys are so under rated . She slept in my bed with me right beside me or cuddled to me for yearssssss. Amazing creatures.takes a lot of time and patience but it’s so worth it. Out of all reptiles they have the most amazing personalities. They are so intelligent and always paying attention basically mini raptors
@Louiseholm Жыл бұрын
that sounds incredibly irresposible, even if they enjoy being outside their cage they need to be in it so they can have the humidity they need. They are nowhere near big enough for a person to sleep close to, they could be crushed under you. Letting them free roam on an island also sounds stupid, they are water dragons, they arent going to be stopped by water.

Dude idk how I got so lucky but mine is so sweet, like a puppy sweet. He loves to be held and pet and even lets you hug him. He just closes his eyes and seems to love the interaction. When he's scared he puts out his dewlap (the chin flap thing) and puffs up. So obviously he isn't scared as he will jump into my arms without a second thought. He's the sweetest lizard I've ever owned. Honestly like I said he's like a puppy in a lizards body. I love him so much. But as this video stated I had to raise him in the right sized (as in XXL) tank, with good food with vitamins, proper heating, a pool, and a misting system. If anyone reading this wants one the experience is so rewarding but to get that experience you need to treat them right. It's just a theory but I think he knows I'm his friend. My cat for example terrifies him and makes him puff up, but when he sees me - although he knows I'm another type of animal like the cat - he relaxes and climbs onto me and lets me hug him while he closes his eyes and holds onto me for safety. I think reptiles might be a lot smarter than we give them credit for.

I used to have three water dragons, I named the male Randy for obvious reasons, and he used to love sitting on my shoulder when I was in my reptile room, I honestly found these reptiles to be very easy to tame and not really unsociable from the get go, I also saw a Tokay near the start, and yeah I have had some of them too, now THEY are not tamable.
@jeremiahpoole47432 жыл бұрын
I recommend hand feeding all the food they tame quickly if you do. I miss my dragon he nose rubed till he got an infection and parted. But he would get depressed if I didn't hold him at least an hour every day or so, I even had people come watch TV with him when I went out of town. I miss my Chinese dragon.
@shawnschultz15954 жыл бұрын
I really miss my CWD. We used to let him crawl all over the place. Up the curtains and he would stay up there all day. When he was done he would jump to me and i would put him up

I rescued a Water dragon. He is definitely loving. I want to set up a you tube page to help me get the things like an appropriate environment. He likes to be wrapped up in a blanket and put into a tub that I use for his swimming and he will hibernate for 48 hours sleeping on his back. I don't think I've ever seen a lizard do that. My Gizmo is one of a kind.

My 3 footed male Chinese water dragon sleeps in the bookshelf empty space top of the rack of books. When hungry, he jumps to the top of and around the sofa set and I feed it with live mice and meal worms. It will jump and return to the bookshelf after food. He only defecates when I put it in the tub of water everyday. It has been with me for 12 years and is still strong.

I have an almost 3 year old female. She has never dug and always eaten like a pig. Lately she has been digging in the plant box. Only 2 to 3 inches deep. And trying to burrow under a potted plant sitting on rocks. When I fed her today she only took one roach then just kind of sat there looking. Any ideas?

Your name gets featured in the intro which is happening right now 8:22 covered in links. Thanks You to A ham, CID, Ma s and who could forget: A Just FYI an intro goes at the beginning of the video. At the END of the video it's called an "out"ro Good info though i just gotta give you some ribbing for all that haha I work at a pet shop, and we have a cwdragon that gets asked about fairly frequently. I didn't even think about grow tents. Is there anything you would suggest that could help make glass a non-threat? Would it help if we put a tint on it? I dont' really have any options in the display and our poor cwd is already pretty raw from rubbernecking all the people passing by

Usually the only Chinese water dragons that have health problems are the imported ones. But if you can find a captive bred one you pretty much get rid of all of the health problems associated with imports.

120 gallon is ur best bet. And you will need a barrier to obscure the glass so they see there is a barrier there. If ur are cohabing please get more than 1 female as the male will harass the female every mating season for her booty and it will stress her out if there isn’t another female for him to harass from time to time 😂 also I found that u if u can get a setup to place the cage high enough off the floor they seem to enjoy it up above u more than being near the ground seems they love the view

Why were these guys originally called Chinese Water Dragons? It seems misleading. I wish they were named Green Water Dragon. The majority of them came from Thailand, Cambodia, and Vietnam for the export of pet trades decades ago. The vast majority were wild caught. They would be more inclined to being a true tropical species. Because up in China, yes even southern China experience snow from time to time.
