Smash is designed as a party game which means effects that make it more exciting, RNG, and comeback mechanics are thrown in just because they can. Even Melee, as amazing as it is, has random shit like Peach Turnips. RoA has all this jank that makes it truly unique and interesting. Yet it does so in a way that doesn't sacrifice its competitive integrity. It stays interesting but doesn't confuse interesting with unpredictable. For that I will always prefer Rivals. I can lose and never blame some BS I had no control over
@periclescomoeddie52153 жыл бұрын
Smash is DEFINETELY better for non competitives, it has way more solo modes, it has items, and TONS of little details (like Ice Climbers not sliding on ice). But as a competitive game, I think Rivals is better. It has quicker gamplay, it's way more balanced, and the online is at least better than Smashes online. Also, the ranked mode is much better.

Another Tech; is a Ukemi; where you can Roll out the way when you hit the ground; if you press the Dodge Button at the right time. Forsburn's Smoke also obscures the Stage. A Character that can hide an entire Stage from view; should not be taken lightly. Eliana's Steam & Overheat Smashes are useable in Mid Air & Ground; effectively making her a Character with the best of both worlds: Ground & Air Smashes.

Really fun, clean video. I want to ask though: why are RAR and DACUS excluded from the "basic mechanics" section? As a big melee player, these have a *huge* impact on how I play rivals vs. Melee. Just curious as to your thought process there.
@atWisely3 жыл бұрын
Hey, that's a great question! I only included techs that aren't in any Smash title in the basic mechanics part, since the video is aimed at folks who already know Smash. Everything I put in are totally unique to Rivals. RAR and DACUS have been in Smash since Brawl, though I believe Ult removed DACUSes. If I was making a more general "how to play" video that really went into neutral theory, punish game, recovery mixups, etc, I would 100% include them.
@drakoz2543 жыл бұрын
That makes total sense! I bet an ult player coming to RoA would be like "what are you talking about, of course you can rar" if you mentioned it. For what it's worth, with the pedigree shown by this video, i can only hope you make a similarly good "how to play" video. :)

As a Ness/Lucas player in Smash Bros., I found Absa to be quite comfortable for me to play. She has a similar floaty feel and weight as the EarthBound characters do in Smash. A few of her moves kind of resemble theirs, like her fair is like Lucas' and her bair is like Ness'. She is also good at edgeguarding, because of her cloud and the options you can do with it. She is very much a "zoner" type of character, but can still get some good combos off of her airials. Before I began playing Rivals of Aether, I considered Absa as a strong contender for what character I would use and practice due to her playstyle and stats. I was just looking at how I play and what I'm used to in Smash, and applying it to Rivals. I will say that I do enjoy playing Absa, and she's usually the character I choose whenever I play the game. If you play Ness and/or Lucas in Smash and are considering picking up Rivals, I recommend to definitely try Absa out. It's possible that you will probably like the way she feels. But if she doesn't feel good, it's okay to try someone else out. Just choose whoever feels best for you.

You're not cancelling the frames by falling, those frames are the window for you to do the fast fall input. Every fighting game has hit lag to make it looks like a move has more impact.
