Going to Japan in a few weeks: Fukuoka - Nagasaki - Kumamoto - Okayama - Takamatsu. This is my fourth trip to Japan. I’m going to see a few shows by one of my favorite Japanese bands and their tour dates helped determine the itinerary. Getting tickets to shows from overseas is quite an adventue that can change from band to band and venue to venue.

Will be taking train from Tokyo to Kyoto. If all I’m wanting is a decent view of Mt Fuji, would the train view be good….? Or is it still worth spending a day specifically focused on traveling to another spot to view. We don’t really like hikes.
@cakeswithfaces3 сағат бұрын
Make sure you sit on the right hand side as you're going from Tokyo to Kyoto. The view is always hit and miss - it depends how clear it is. Sometimes you get a great view of Fuji, and sometimes nothing, it's down to luck! If it's clear, there's a view of Fuji from Shin Fuji Station, which is en route, but only the Kodama (slowest service) stops there. Otherwise, if you have time, you could stop off and make a side trip - there are many spots for Fuji views (if it's clear) eg the Mishima Skywalk if you're not scared of heights!

The Kodama not so much, but the Hikari's not so bad! ☺️

I got an Icoca instead of Suica for 2 reasons 1. I think the platypus is cuter 2. I know foreigners often use Suica to mean "ic in general" but I also am that brat who kneejerk resists when everyone says something 😹 So everyone specifically says Suica I'm like NOPE I REFUSE! I used to actually just get tickets every time but once in Osaka I needed a locker and the only ones were all ic-only. I realise it's much more convenient now I have it lol

May i ask how crowded is around Tokyo during late March (around 20-ish till end of month) as well as Climate if it's gonna rain or shine?
@cakeswithfaces3 сағат бұрын
The end of March is the most popular time of the year to visit Japan, because of cherry blossom season, and the last two weeks of March are also the holidays in Japan unfortunately! It's springtime, so it's warming up (warm enough for picnics under the cherry blossoms) and should be pleasant - but bring layers as it can still be cool. It can rain any time of year in Japan, but it's not a time particularly known for rainfall, so that should be ok!

@cakeswithfaces3 сағат бұрын
Mid April's usually a quiet time (even at places like Tokyo Disney), once the cherry blossom season crowds have gone home, so you may find your second week is a lot quieter. I'd plan accordingly and visit the more popular/touristy places on your list in the second week. The first week will probably be quite busy, so be sure to book tickets in advance, or go somewhere off the Golden Route (Tokyo/Kyoto/Osaka) where most tourists don't visit.

Welcome Suica app seems so useless
@cakeswithfaces3 сағат бұрын
It does seem odd when you can already add Suica to your Apple Wallet. The only thing I can think of is it's a benefit to Japan Railways (data storage and admin-wise) - because it's temporary, they don't end up with thousands of digital Suica accounts that are used for two weeks then never again, from people who only go to Japan once.
