Well, I don’t know about everybody else, but I had a great experience with the good Sam roadside assistance. They saved me. I was stuck in the middle of South Carolina with nothing around me. Thank God they were there for me.

When I purchased my Highland Ridge towable RV this past spring it came with RV Complete coverage. So glad we have it. I ran out of gas last week in South Georgia. Called RV Complete and within 45 minutes we had 5 gallons of gas. Big thanks to Cussetta Recovery service.

Finally someone talking about RV roadside assistance. First of all, RV roadside service sucked before COVID and the increase in RVers. Unless your rig is blocking traffic and the police summon a wrecker, you will wait for hours for a tow truck to arrive. Secondly, insurance, any insurance, only exists if the insurer takes in more in premium than it spends providing service. I don't know how many RVers I've heard that are running an older rig that plan and use roadside assistance as a crutch. This is unsustainable. It won't be long before RV road side assistance providers will have different rates for different rigs and full timers versus part timers, as well as claims history and deductibles. Third, most RV owners aren't very mechanically inclined. This has 2 aspects. 1) They don't inspect and maintain their rigs very well and 2) they can't fix anything if it breaks. This means more rescue calls for tow companies, RV dealers and truck shops. This is unsustainable. Bottom line: maintain your stuff, carry spare parts, carry tools and become as self sufficient as possible. The great thing about having a towed vehicle is that at least you have transportation when your MH breaks.

I've thought about it, I work for the place she is talking about, so glad we no longer do goodsam. Providers don't usually care nothing about RVers and will leave a person stranded on the highway because they wanted another $10 or just didn't feel like doing the hard job they promised to do, as soon as they get that credit card, you have to trust they will honor their word, yeah alot of times they just defraud us and then it's my fault the customer is still waiting....

@@PatrickBaptist-vv2bg I agree the industry is a racket. Some of this is the RVer's fault too. Expecting to pay a few hundred dollars a year for towing services and then needing 2-4 tows a year for things that could be easily fixed on the roadside isn't going to cut it. Someone is losing money big time. Just about every KZbin RVer is using at least 1 tow job per year. Some are using a lot more. I had roadside assistance and towing coverage for my RV (Superduty and 5th wheel trailer) for years. Never used it. One day a DPF sensor failed on my truck about 40 miles out of the city (1M people) at about 10AM. Called for a tow back into town... I didn't know it was a sensor at that point. Nobody had arrived at 2PM. I got the truck started and limped it back into town. At 5PM a tow truck called to tell me they were on their way. I was already back in the city. Totally useless service.

@@SomeTechGuy666 Oh I deal with some people that pay as little as $3 a month for their roadside (not RV), and they will blow up and tell me "well what am I paying for if I ain't covered 100 miles" LOL. I hate those DPFs, it's the reason I stay in older trucks, I ain't dealing with that, I support a fam of 7, I can't help support a DPF problem anymore than I could afford a coke problem lol. I've never paid for roadside, I get it free from work, I've used it twice when I was in a position to not care how long, both times though my junk was picked up within an hour. Just depends on the service provider/tow truck company, alot of them are liars and will say anything to get a payment then never show up or answer the phone, in otherwords committing fraud while leaving you the customer waiting around. Like I tell any RVer, if you don't learn to fix your rig you will be sitting crying about it waiting on someone else to scoop you and your problem off the road, I've always fixed my own on the roadside, I couldn't afford to have the RV and buses I've had towed, thank God I've never been beaten and stuck. With a Wife and 5 kids counting on me I can't let em down by begging someone over the phone to care about me and do my job for me. Really sad how people will force their children to sit roadside with them while waiting on service just so they can gripe at me about their choices in life, my kids are way more important than the junk I drive, I'd never leave them in that position waiting on a tow jockey to come take care of them for me..... With a DPF you will be needing more tows in the future, I'd urge you to get a OBDII to blue tooth adapter so you can hook up to it and scan your own codes and also do force regens and so on, I'm a cheap man but I paid out hundreds so I could connect up to my bus because I don't want to be left sitting on the road, I roll with all kinds of spare parts too, PCM, starter, alternator, air compressor, transmission selector panel, all kinds of spare parts so I ain't stuck on the road, I dunno how other people trust their roadside and don't ever prepare to so much as change their own tire. Be safe out there.

We had a blowout on one of our TT tires on the highway in northern Nebraska this summer. We have AAA Plus. They were sending someone within an hour - good enough. Then a half hour later they called back, there was a wreck on the highway and our guy was going to the wreck and they didn't know when anyone could come out to us. It was blazing hot and the Mr has no patience, so he found someone in the nearest town who was willing to come out and change our tire. It only cost $50, a bottle of ice water and a generous tip. We're submitting the $50 to AAA and we'll see what happens. After that, we stopped at a Camping World and got a ramp so we can change our own tire if this ever happens again.

Had similar Good Sam RA issue with them price shipping. 3 hours later and me having to call back 3 times I finally asked to talk directly to wrecker service provider. They told me Good Sam had called them twice, 1st time was 3hrs before and they only asked what charge was. They had a truck available that could have been there within a half hour yet GS kept price checking. I ended up taking off work and changing the tire myself on wife’s car. This was 2 days before we were leaving on a 3000 mile trip with TT. I called GS about the experience and a manager was supposed to call me back after reviewing call logs. They never called back. So much for peace of mind while towing. I have tools to change tire and make basic roadside repairs but sometimes that’s not enough. The wrecker company told me AAA RV was the best in their experience however my local AAA club doesn’t offer RV coverage

We had 2 flat tires this summer. 1) Coachnet said they could not get someone until the next day. That was not going to work. I called a local guy and got the tire swapped. I was there in 20min. It cost me $245. 2) We called Coachnet and it tool 5hrs for someone to arrive. I am buying a 20 ton jack and a impact wrench.

I had a problem with my rig and AAA told me that they would have someone there in 6-8 hours which I found totally unacceptable. I decided to call around locally and found someone that could come and tow me in 20 minutes. I called AAA and told them this and they said that the service I found was not part of their contract and I could not use them. I argued and they finally agreed that I could use my locally found service and to send them the bill afterward. I did this and to AAA's credit that reimbursed me 100% of the local cost.

I have AAA Plus RV that covers my RV and trailer. I have used AAA in the past and it will usually take an hour or two for a towing service to show up. Depending on the area it can be an interesting tow; ensure that it is a reputable towing company using newer equipment and that your RV and trailer, if you have one, are not damaged during the tow as damage can easily occur especially if your RV is lifted high causing the rear of the RV or trailer to be drug when uneven surfaces are crossed. My vehicle insurance also has a limited tow service coverage, which I would use if my tow went beyond the maximum coverage of my AAA tow coverage...

Had multiple bad experiences with AAA a long time ago and won't use them again. In 7 years of having our 2003 Newmar D.P. we've never had to be towed, we were able to drive it to the Caterpillar dealer the one time we lost power and couldn't go over about 45-50 mph and luckily we were only about 5-6 miles from them. We use Coach-Net and while we've never had to use it, I know KZbinrs who did and they really liked their service. They are very familiar with big class A and Bus coaches.

I am currently repairing the overhead cab bunk because it got And rotted. Currently also working on the generator and I was always told watch items possibly falling off well in transit.. Also, probably a good idea to put a secondary fuel tank in which I did for the generator so I don’t have to worry about running myself to low on gas keeping different fluids on hand along with repair items maybe even a few extra tires lol.

We tried to get Good Sam roadside assistance pre COVID twice. Once in podunk TX and they never found us provider. Finally called our home mechanic who walked us through the fix over the phone 🥴 Second time we ended up calling a tow co ourselves. They said they won’t work with Good Sam because they reimburse at rate that makes it not worth the liability and time 🤔

We have AAA because of the extreme inconvenience and very poor customer service and care. And lack of resources and response from good Sam's club. Have only had 1 issue in 5 years where I just got really mad and, just paid out of pocket for someone to purchase, and bring me the new starter and they even installed it for me. Even though I was going to do it myself

Sounds like and looks like everything in the RV Industry is built on smoke and morrows. Right off, dealer had dealer prep charge added to the cost of the sale price. I asked what was that charge for and was told that they charged that to inspect it to make sure everything worked before they sold it. No refund on that when we had a water leak when we first hooked up water to it and were told we would then have to wait in line to get it fixed because their service department was backed up, weeks sitting not being used warranty 365 days being used up. Was also told by the manufacture that every RV they built went through a rigorous inspection before it left their yard. Which from watching RV transport on You Tube is true, they have the transporter check for lights , breaks working, doors , windows closed, lug nuts tight and torqued, loose awnings, dent and scratches Next roadside service for tire coming apart, set 5 hours for tire to be changed out because I have a bad back and can not lift even a gallon of milk. We were told they would be out in 15 minutes after being on the phone for over 30 minutes trying to get to talk to a real person. We played this game for over 4 1/2 hours trying to get to talk to a live person as to why no one was showing up only to be told each time they would get back with us. I told my wife we needed to make a sign and keep it with us that says need tire changed we will pay $50.00 , it took less than 5 minutes for the guy to change it out. We decided it was best to just sale out like so many others because we could see no end with problems with it and road side service. Sad so Sad One thing the road side service will always ask you do you feel safe where you are at. Always tell them no you do not feel safe and that you are recording your conversation with them.

I have AAA Platinum and CoachNet. Hands down CoachNet all the way. My RV would not start in my driveway along the side of the house. Coachnet sent a crew with three trucks to air it up, pull it out backwards from the side of the house and tow it 15 miles to Freightliner. On my coach that requires dropping the drive shaft and having air to the system. This is a 45' 56000 pound coach. CoachNet DID NOT charge me anything. They also called me every two hours to update me on the progress. Because it was at my house I first had them try for a mobile service that could come out. They were unable to find one and because I was in no rush, had a the tow trucks out the next morning. AAA only pays up to $500 on the RV side. This would have FAR exceeded that.

Be aware ! Most RV assiatance plans actually use third party companies to contract road aside assistance. Following the rules xet by the RV organization. Ask me how we know. The "E" RV club assistance policy left us stranded overnight on the side of an Interstate highway ( 3 lanes of 70 MPH traffic ) because they could not find anyone to tow us. Surprisingly our auto /RV insurance policy had towing coverage. Three hours later we were towed to a service center.

Here is my 2 cents .... We had roadside included with our insurance. We didn't pay any mind to the amount or anything as it just clicked in the back of our mind ... hey we have RS. Before hitting the road we looked into it, thankfully...it was 100$ towing max. HA For 8 bucks more we got 500 and we pick who does the towing. Also, upped the amount of fuel from 5 gal to 10. And with the towing, if we just wanted towed to the nearest service or exit, it is free with no out of pocket but they chose who tows. We haven't needed it yet....but as our rig gets older I am sure it's time is coming. 34' Dutch Star w/ 1 super slide

Sad you needed towed so much, I've been an RVer for about 7 years, towed never, I've driven junk RVs starting out but the last 5 years I've had the same bus that never let me down, you just have to take care of your junk. When using your insurance you are playing around with getting your insurance canceled. But what do I know I work for one of those big companies you call when you break down, we use to do goodsam. I also worked for another outfit before that who did GS before where I now work got them lol. Look GS is going to try to control claim costs, those big ol tow truck drivers will gouge and charge $500+ an hour to tow you thinking your motorclub has an unlimited source of money, caring nothing about anyone else but that they get a large payoff, then they blame me for doing my job trying to find a fair deal so I can make your plan work out, because if we did it the way the customer and tow truck wanted there would be no roadside because you sure wouldn't pay what the service costs, that's the thing with motorclubs, you are PAYING me to find a good deal, not to hurry and take the first bad quote, think about it. IF you want off the road in a hurry then sometimes you have to pay up for your own service. We don't just look for the cheapest but also consider the ETA, the provider lies to the customer so they look so god in front of the customer, we don't waste hours for $10 that's just a damned lie. But you trust the man trying to make the most money off your trouble rather than the low wage employees that have a process and are being monitored. I wouldn't understand if I had not been doing this for the last 7 years. Sadly there is so many providers that will get a credit card from us never to answer the phone for the customer or us again just stealing and then the customer blames me because the 3rd party won't answer. Y'all need to think harder about what your into, just listening to the provider saying no over $10 should really have woke you up, he said the motor club will call around hours of $10, well he cares nothing for you to let you wait around for $10, dude was just admitting he either gets the full dollar amount he asks for or for $10 less he will leave you stranded, my what a wonderful feller lol. The agents are paid more than $10, they ain't gonna keep looking around for another provider for hours over $10 (me more than double that) that service provider was just BSing you because he knew you wouldn't think any further than how he told you to think. Happens all the time, then I get to come deal and clean up with the lies while they get to run their mouth without being recorded, but you can believe whoever you want, the guy getting a few cents to deal with your call or the driver than is trying to rake in the big pay day, but I reckon tow truck drivers never lie.... Oh execept when I talk to them on the phone, makes me so mad they will like telling me they did a job then I call the customer to get cussed out because the lying driver hasn't shown up.... But ask any tow truck driver, your roadside assistance agent is all to blame for other people telling lies, sorry I do kinda get sick of that crap. IF only I could let the customer hear some of the calls, they would realize they got played like a m0r0n. IF you use your insurance, you may get canceled later, it is counted as a claim, just look up on YT, there is another feller that got kicked off progressive for being a roadside abuser, I can't believe how people will raise a huge fuss, I sure wouldn't want my home owners canceled I'd be so screwed personally with what else I'd have to take on to please the bank..... When people call and ask me if filling a roadside claim is like an accident claim I laugh and tell them to call their agent for more details, it's not my job to explain the terms that they should have read before signing up, no one reads them and has some strange imaginations about how it works and how it covers everything lol. Seriously learn what you pay for, there are some outfits that will defraud you like AT&T roadside through Allied Dispatch Solutions.

My understanding is your auto/RV/trailer insurance - that roadside assistance only kicks in if a valid collision claim applies. Works if you hit something or someone hit you, but doesn't work if you broke down. This is from researching new Roadside asst providers. I'm canceling RV Advisor (which uses Saferide/VAS), and buying Coachnet. Seems like the same coverage for less money. But the devil's always in the details.

We had a flat tire on our tow, called for service, the guy showed up…….said he DID NOT HAVE TIME to access the spare from under the truck……and drove off! We were so lucky someone stopped and changed it for us!!

That's what my tow vehicle car insurance told me to do. They are Farm Bureau. Tow companies prefer to be paid directly and not deal with 3rd party Road Side Assistance companies because they are always low balling them for tows.

I'm not an RVer, but I really loved Progressive Ins. for my car. They're really awesome! They will cover road side assistance even if you lock yourself out of your car (and I did that once with the car running~ what can I say? smh ☺) And they will cover your pets for hospital & vet care if they've been hurt in the event of an accident. They really take care of you! The only thing now is, I really can't afford them. They're very expensive. And btw, I had an uncle who had an RV in Florida when I was a teenager. I'm not sure if my cousins have one today. But I had so much fun camping with them in Daytona beach and watched the 2nd ever shuttle takeoff. The ground shook like an earthquake. Oh the nostalgic memories!! 😆

We had to have our 38' pusher towed this summer on a Sunday. Good Sam would not tow it to a repair shop that wasn't open to actually accept it , so we wanted it towed home which was actually closer than a repair shop. We had to pay a substantial amount out of pocket to do that , but we appealed that decision afterward and eventually received a one time refund for the out of pocket cost since no repair shop was open. It took about 4 hours for a tow to show up . An fyi , the wrecker service will remove the driveshaft so it can be towed , but will not re-install it due to liability. We probably should have used our Progressive Insurance roadside towing instead of our Good Sam roadside assistance. Probably fewer headaches.

Informative info on the TOGO and Roadside Assistance. We just saw that Good Sam has a 50% off special on roadside assistance for new customers which we are considering to purchase for our Grand Design 2500RL. Just looking for comments on whether we should jump on this or if there is a better time of year to purchase roadside or if there is another company worth investigating over GS.

In our experience time of year doesn’t really matter when purchasing roadside. Although we have seen sometimes there can be Black Friday deals even on roadside plans

We just bought a diesel pusher used but new to us. Thank you for all of your information. I do have a question that perhaps you can help with. I heard there was a diesel gas card that would discount your diesel purchases at truck stops. Is that true? Do you have any advice about that?

I signed up for the TDS card months ago. Never got the card. I called them, they said no problem will send out another one, never got it. I don’t even understand why you need a physical card in this day and age and how can I trust a company with my bank info that can’t even mail out the product.

Roamly recently switched my policy over to Progressive and I needed a tow on 12/14/2023. HORRIBLE SERVICE!!! I was in Orange County surrounded by numerous service providers yet they fumbled for hours just to confirm my coverage and generate an RO (request order) number. The company they hired, Auto Aide of Corona, was negligent for losing a couple of parts in transit that connected my driveshaft to the differential. Now Progressive is denying the record of the tow exists and is alleging that I personally hired the tow company. Auto Aide refused to admit their liability and welcomed litigation!

Not at all! The reference to new RV’ers is a direct quote from article on Rvtravel.com The situation is a supply/demand issue. More demand than supply. More people are RVing in general - which is awesome - it just creates new ways of having to secure roadside service when needed.

Very obviously, America never had the type of “service infrastructure” to confront such a massive increase in proudly homeless and/or unemployed Americans resulting in the huge wave of new RV’ers, RV’ing activities and corresponding RV troubles on the road. Its the same as loads of superyachts passing by India, ended up with serious issues and stuck in India having to wait for days before mediocre technical assistance arrives. Please…the USA is not Japan or South Korea. If you have RV’ed in Japan for a year, and then returned State-side to continue it, you would be aghast with shock and dissappointed (security issues, crime issues, shitty quality of American RVs, 3rd world breakdown service, poorly maintained camp grounds, many truly xucked-up attitudes and selfish arrogance of many American RV’ers etc).

Seems like many of these RS assistance companies are junk insurance and care only about collecting premiums while offering little to no service. The exception according to this thread appears to be Coach net. If I decide to get RS service, I likely will go with them.
