Another tip that I think is helpful is doubling up yarn (like using two or three strands of the same yarn) to make a certain yarn weight if you don’t have it. Ex: double stranding a worsted weight yarn can make chunky yarn or double stranding a sport weight can make a dk weight yarn :)

You could use safety pins as stitch markers

I’d like to add that the material the knitting needle is made of works better for certain materials. I like wood/ bamboo needles for silky yarns like Truboo by lion brand. That is also made of bamboo I believe. For whatever reason it doesn’t slide well on the metal needles, therefore I have to tug and it messes up my stitches and gauge. I like metal needles for acrylics and wools, and as for plastic needles I don’t much like them but I’m sure they work fine with certain fibers

That's great to hear! It's definitely all down to preference I think!

New follower here! I know this video is old, but if you do see my comment, I thought it’d be helpful to share that one of the most confusing things to someone who is trying to get into knitting is all of the new terminology!! It would be great to see definitions flash onto the screen when you bring up new terms. (I only mention it because you clearly know how to edit your videos!) Also, I am in a warmer climate and always thought knitting wasn’t for me because of that. I LOVE that you mentioned that knitting isn’t just for people who want to make sweaters. I feel encouraged! Thanks for this video! ❤

Omg I used Bobby pins and rubber bands the way you did too!😂 still do from time to time Edit: I politely disagree about having a measuring tape. I think it’s absolutely necessary unless you were making stuffed toys
