Excellent advice. I have never considered these "mini battles" and in particular, the mini adjustments I need to be aware of, and apply in order to win the battle. Professor, you've hit the nail on the head when you mention our "focus on technique". With this concept you've added a new element to my game, and one that I plan to wholeheartedly endorse! Thank you! Love your videos . . . keep 'em comin'!

I watch this video every once in a while to remind me about the very important lesson you showed here. I believe figuring out such little details but important concepts takes you years and is the difference between white and blue from brown and black belts. I feel fortunate to have access to such eye opening content quite early in my jiujitsu career. Also professor, can you do a separate video where you expand on this very topic and teach us how to apply same concept of figuring out where the mini battle lies in any given position for ourselves.

Thanks Ken. Great thing about the focus on principles is that it is also instructive about what I need to do to make the over-under pass work. I've been ending up in this position to pass alot as I've got my deep-half sweeps working, but haven't converted a high percentage. The failure rate is related to me not understanding what micro battles I need to win.

In my slow revision of the half guard, I'll be spending more time on this. I consider an understanding of the over under to be an essential component of playing half.

Adding to the chorus of appreciation. I was contending with a little bit of this position today, so it's nice to see something like this to give me some immediate points to consider and some micro battles to keep an eye on. Thanks Kenneth.

Yeah, that whole concept of micro battles is a different way to think about the game, but most people at a high level realize it by osmosis and just never break it down and verbalize it.

I just want to tell how I love your videos buddy . I’m a 38 Year old white belt trying to get better. I love how you teach, give details, move slow, your discussions on concept. Right now I’m thinking about 1,000 things , but putting it in to small battles is great way to look at it. Where is your gym ? If that’s ok to ask?l I have now subscribed my man
