You are the, and I mean the reason I believed in myself to draw and take art seriously. I love your work, and the way you break down the topic of art technique. I haven't been drawing much these past two years and I'm only coming back now. I bought two copies of your first book (since I've had to leave them behind more than once). I'm planning on buying another in hopes I won't have to again. I appreciate the time you put into making your content. thank you for putting your mind out into this world.

I find it pretty curious that you give the exact same examples I got in 1997 when I was studying in a Comic Book school in Spain (Joso). I thought you invented every inking technique.

Hi, Alphonso I bought both books. But I am disappointed. The paper in the workbook is far too thin to work with ink (fineliners). The exercises shine through the underlying page and can therefore no longer be used. What can I do?
@alphonsodunn2 жыл бұрын
That sucks! I’m sorry. Perhaps try not to press as hard or use ink thats are less wet or will more likely bleed through.
@oldhorseshoe17762 жыл бұрын
I know the books are meant to be draw in but I don't do that. I use the book as reference and use printer paper for practice, sketchbook paper for finished drawings/studies.
@Huh5602 жыл бұрын
@@oldhorseshoe1776 It's called "workbook".....and I bought it as such too. I use the prescribed drawing materials. ☹

Coming back to your videos after some years and your voice is completely different. Is it still the same person?
@Milark2 жыл бұрын
I thought I was the only one that noticed. You can still hear it’s the same person, just sounds a lot older. He’s been making videos exactly like this for ages. So the voice you remember is him 6 years ago.

Been following your book, been working on it for about a year. It is certainly challenging but has taught me a ALOT about ink drawing from ground zero. I was a complete beginner and the hard and work and practice that you put into it studying this amazing craft will help you in creating some of the most amazing art.

I found that line weight is the key. A barbed wire fence is thicker and heaver in the foreground and gets thinner and lighter as it approaches the horizon. Your example at timestamp 1:45 is misleading. The red arcs indicate a sphere but your hashing outline is too dark too heavy. You won't be able to add a realistic foreground texture. That's my issue drawing rocks. I make the outline and shading of the cracks too dark. Then my realistic foreground texture isn't realistic.
@alphonsodunn2 жыл бұрын
Hmmm. I think I see your point. Keep in mind though that the demonstration isnt conveying light and shadow, so the weight of the strokes are pretty consistent all-round the form
@richerathernotsay4272 жыл бұрын
@@alphonsodunn Yes, but the red arcs indicate 3D. Light and dark shadows convey depth. IMO it will be difficult to convey the depth of the object indicated by the red arcs when the outline is that dark.
@alphonsodunn2 жыл бұрын
@@richerathernotsay427 what if the light is from is front or back of the form? lol just kidding. Dont look too deeply into the demo, its meant to just illustrate the tightness of the texture used at the contour. The form wasn't fully rendered for that reason

I just bought your workbook and hinted (ha ha) to my son that I would like your other book for Mother's Day. I have begun doing the exercises and drawing lines and notice my brain gets in the zone when I really focus. One issue is a very small blob of ink at the beginning of each line or perhaps even the end of it. Should I lighten up. Any suggestions? I don't see those on your lines. Maybe I am pushing harder when I begin a line? I'm a Dunn too....
