The fruit you were wondering about if the fruit of the Maclura pomifera, commonly known as the Osage orange.

Yes, they look very similar to the fruit of the Osage. We call them Hedge balls here in the U.S. They are said to keep spiders away. They sell them at the farmers market here in the Midwest U.S. I've tried them and have to say that I've seen a lot fewer spiders in the rooms I've put them in.

Totally agree with the last bit Scotty. Yesterday I was at Fraser island on a manic activity filled day tour and then back at Rainbow Beach we just sat... sat on the wet sand in the warm Australian rain and watched the full moon rise. No decent photos as that would have taken up the time to just sit and watch.
