Before every boot sole was cemented. Goodyear welted boots last forever because you can just replace the soles. Can't do that with cemented soles as easy.

Wow, pricing of what you should buy as enlisted has changed. 900 a month , probably less is what I made. Never went over 18 k as combat arms with volunteering to go to combat. That's pre tax btw. I slept on the dmz asking why the signs said to take your malaria pills and why we didn't get them we were told we weren't permanent station lol like the bugs know.

there was a camp that was run by an army officer in my area and I went just cause I wanted to and I brought along my my grandfather‘s Vietnam era combat boots we were told bring hiking boots or combat boots if you have them and he said those are the exact type of boot that I did basic training in. you’ll do fine here, Kid.

Footwear is basically the only place I don't mind spending a decent bit of money for quality. I can spend 30 bucks on a cheap pair of shoes that last me 2 months of being too narrow and unsupported, or I can dish out 180 for a nice pair of shoes that fit my big feet and remain comfortable and strong for 2 thousand miles of walking.

Dont skimp out on high end insoles aswell. I know plenty of guys with expensive boots with factory inserts. Try out diffrent socks ( like compression and support socks )and laces ( i get soft flat laces for a little bit more give) too for you guys that are willing to spend more.

With higher quality shoes that are made out of leather, suede or nubuck they get shaped to your foot with time. This is especially noticable with steel-toe boots, the best fitting pair is still gonna scrape for a while. I may add that in some „woke” universities having run down shoes is seen as a eco-friendly anti-materialistic statement.

My Oakley’s boots took a beating in Iraq. I wore them up until my discharge. They had burn marks and even a blood stain. Our butter bar who came to us after deployment told me to go get new boots and not to wear those again. They stayed on my feet for over 2 more years. I earned the condition of those boots and they weren’t going anywhere. I was medically discharged and my boots were in my storage unit along with 90% of my military stuff and was broken into and it was all stolen. When I realized the boots were gone I actually had to fight tears

I wore basic training boots all 12 months of my deployment in Iraq. Lightweight and breathable. Once you build up the calluses on the back of your feet and Achilles from getting eat up by friction they are the best lol

I wore the same issued boots from basic through deployment until I got out and my feet were fine. My wife was amazed at how soft my feet became “like baby skin.” I never needed mole skin either. Army infantry.

I was in prior to desert boots (1994-2000). I rocked the Corcoran Field 2 jump boots. Had those resoled 4 times. The leather on the side finally gave out 4 years ago. So, I bought a second pair. 25 years seems to be a decent boot life.

hahahaha, wooooo, dude, 25 years, I had my standard marine infantry corcoran boots for 22 years with two sole changes, my boots was always ready, always aggressive and willing to work, trot, climb and kick ass and also to flee from fights, from death and from the devil hahaha, but my boots was always ready in service to the community too, my boots abandoned me one day at the beach, there were a lot of people and while I was talking with some friends sitting outside the car several huge waves washed away the crowd on the beach, and to the confusion and alarm the people took their things wildly to flee from the water and someone mistakenly took my things including my towel, my radio, my shirt and my beloved boots, poor my boots, always loyal to my cause and perhaps even now surely serving faithful to its new owner, that was 10 years ago, long live to corcoran boots, cheers XD

I got out of the Corps in '96, and still wear my standard issue Desert Storm boots regularly. Thirty years of use and best damn boots I've ever owned... They just don't make anything like that anymore.

@@Justamanwidaplan Mine were issued to me, so I'm not entirely sure of the manufacturer (they still have the DOD labels in them). But I had a look and it appears they are the McRae 4189 Men's Hot Weather Desert Tan Military Boots. They look identical to me, and it seems likely those are the ones. No idea if they are available anymore. AT this rate, mine just might outlast *me*...😉 Hope that helps! 👍

Theres still guys all around the world that need top quality boots, no planned obsolescence acceptable. Those boots are your boots though, and they’ve been with ya for a lot, that means more than any quality sometimes.

Sorry, my time was in the 80s, black leather boots that had spit polished toes & heels were what was worn. Some guys wore the Vietnam Jungle Boots, whose toes/heels were spit shined.

yeah too bad they only last like 20 miles. I went through 2 pairs in less than a year and switched to danners. I got a solid year out of them each time. but we rucked twice a week, if we were not in the field already rucking...for half of the year....every year....(ft Carson 11b)

Im a former tanker, at least my room looked clean…just dont look under the bed or in the closet lmao. Tank was always ready to go though as it was always one of two that survived two weeks of gunnery without taking a dump on us. Dunno about you, but id rather have a messy room and a straight tank than the other way round.

I didn't get to try the Oakleys until after I got out, what a wonderful boot. They've been great for rucking, running, beach walks. Unbelievably dangerous on slick surfaces though!

I wore my basic training boots through everything, EIB, Air Assault, Airborne, two deployments, finally wore a hole in the side and cracked the bottom right along the ball of the foot they wore so thin...Lotta memories in those boots, I still have them, along with my original dog tags, crossed rifles, smoking jacket and wooby

When the Reckonings first came out and were unavailable on Oki I was on a detachment to Camp Humphreys SK and since MARFOR-K is on Humphreys they had some Marine boots (because obviously USMC needs EGA on everything) and I snagged a pair right then and there.

Danner Ft Lewis are by far my favorite boot. I still wear a pair now that I'm retired. For a desert boot I like the Belleville with the sand tread sole. Not because it's aggressive but because they provide so much extra cushion and are wicked comfortable.

Dead on. I was Army SF 18E and combat diver. We wore high ankle blacked out Chuck Taylor's. They dual as a dive bootie and operative footwear so you only take your fins off and you're ready to go. Anything on land, it was Keens and Solomons for me.

I had a pair of NIKE in OSUT, most comfortable boots I've ever worn. But after 2 months the sole separated from the boot while in the field, never could find another pair of those boots at the PX.

First time I went to the desert in the 90s, I took the GI issue. WORST MISTAKE EVER!!! I'm flat-footed so I tortured my feet. My right foot was numb for 3 months after i got back! The next time to the desert during Iraq freedom, I spent some money and got some good quality boots. Makes a big, big difference! Good times
