Song Machine has a lot of upbeat songs, esp for a Gorillaz project, but that entire album will forever sound haunted to me because of the year it came out. When Momentary Bliss came out, it was so bright and optimistic. When Desole came out, it sounded like it would be the soundtrack to a beautiful spring time... and by the time Aries came out, the world had come to a screeching halt and was thrust into quarantine. By the time the full album dropped in the fall, that beginning-of-year hopefulness had long turned grim, and it was becoming clear that things wouldn't ever really snap back to "normal" completely. I loved Momentary Bliss, and it was how I discovered slowthai, but I just can't listen to that one now. It's like looking at a smiling kid before you tell them their dog died.

I listened to Momentary Bliss like every morning for pratically a month, that one song was my companion during those uncertain times. Desole, in the other hand, that made me feel grief. Idk, Momentary Bliss is just so fun to hear that it reminds me of looking to my self and wishing well for others

I love that I love all albums here in their own little way, especially now that I'm hyperfixating on my favorite band again, but uhm, just a question: What does it say about people whose fave albums are G-Sides or D-Sides? Oh and, I guess my favorite is actually S/T. Just, those songs are so damn good. But at the same time, Plastic Beach is also so damn good. And The Now Now except for Idaho... I will always love Demon Days for how you can listen to the whole album in one go without getting tired, but man, Song Machine is another level. I remember how excited the fans were when the songs were coming out on KZbin, we'd all flood the comments within minutes. On tumblr once i saw a post that said 'what your favorite album says about you' and The Now Now was 'fake fan' I remember really being internally upset because The Now Now may be new but it's just a raw album where 2D began being the leader and most of the songs if not all are written by him.
