Barrett and Tifa were my favorites growing up. One for the reason you'd expect and the other for the reason you might not expect. I'll let you decide which for who

Barrett being a good father and Tifa being a good friend. That's my bet

As someone who is only just starting to dive into FF7, I think I am starting to glimpse the appeal, the world and characters feel so diverse and fun!

It's not your fault every FF7 character is so hot. You did your best. My favorite is Cait Sith by the way 🌚

My take on Cait Sith. If you are Cait Sith then you are a contrarian. You are someone who loves to go against the grain often for the sake of attention. Because of this ideology you often find yourself as the other in whatever group you are in. For this reason you have great sympathy and empathy for the characters that no one else seems to like or respect.

I hated zack as I played through the beginning of Crisis Core. I didn't feel I spent enough time with him during the original to form an opinion, so seeing this upbeat show-off who never knows what's going on or why he's doing what he's doing was a real let down. That was until he met Cloud and bonded with him and then the scene just before he changes his hair sold me on him. From that point he feels like a real character and I even cried during his final scene with Cloud, ready to take on Remake in preparation for Rebirth and even tho Crisis Core (both the original and Reunion) is a prequel to the original and not Remake in the same capacity, it really did a lot to change how I viewed Cloud's personality at the beginning of Remake as someone who lost a friend he admired and leaned on (even if he doesn't remember).

Also I'm sorry but Cait Sith is great. Apart from in the original where his model looks like a big wad of playdough with a black top hat (literally what I thought he was during my first playthrough and didn't understand why his art had a cat), the cat design itself with the cape and crown is awesome. Also, I won't spoil his character but his 'cameo', we'll call it, in Remake really humanised him and gave him a reason to join the party come Rebirth. Yes, he is an odd and roundabout character, but one of the best things about FF7'S characters is their individual motivations for persuing the take down of both Sephiroth and Shinra and Cait Sith is no exception to that.

Red XIII is probably my favourite. His character design, personality, backstory, goofy exploits, his relationship with his 'grandfather', his theme and the theme of his hometown, his knowledge of the planet and esoteric subjects and his appearance in the final scene of the original (also hinted at when fighting the whispers in Remake) all make him perfect in my opinion. Maybe it's because he's a dog-lion thing, or 'lab rat dog', or the way he is portrayed as speaking like a gentleman in his original dialogue but he would make such a good companion for anyone in any situation. I wouldn't treat him like a pet, but truly man's best friend.
