I/Me/Myself isn’t my favorite, but as a trans person, I appreciate the idea that gender is stupid and has limiting roles and people should be allowed to be as femenine or masculine as they want and that doesn’t make their identity invalid because pigeon-holing people into boxes and getting mad when they push back is stupid. Will can like femenine things and still be a man. Maybe I'm wrong but I took its original meaning to be about how the singer just wants to be himself and like what he likes and that doesn’t make him any less of a man. Though the lyrics can absolutely be read as a trans anthem as well and I find nothing wrong with that, because thats how I feel sometimes too. Art is up to interpretation. That being said some peoole are gonna be shitty and refuse to believe Will Wood is cis because of the song and will be dicks about it online. Some people just suck I guess.

I like Half Decade Hangover the most 😊 (I/Me/Myself and Jimmy Mushroom’s Last Drink are up there too because I’ve had similar thoughts to both songs, but Half Decade just feels right.) Idk how to describe it, as I don’t actually drink, but had a few real bad habits that my family still don’t 100% trust me for (nothing illegal just real sad) but the entire climax is just what I feel I wish I could say to them. The lines “tripped on a couple steps and collapsed on the stairs, broke my neck on the backs of those who I hurt and scared” and “I can only say I’m sorry and occasionally pray, guess you’ll just have to take my word that I’ve changed after 1825 days” literally pierced my soul with how it still resonated with me despite our situations and pasts being so different.

Personally I like I / Me / Myself, but not for the same reasons as other people. I like when artists talk about serious problems, but I think the meaning to the song is overlooked or misunderstood. Many people see it as Will Wood expressing how his experience doesn't match any labels, and if people don't match with labels then there's no reason to have them. A song about the idea of gender. In my mind, the song is about Will Wood's eating disorder, much like Skeleton Appreciation Day In Vestal, NY (Bones), and him saying that he wants to be a girl is in reference to how many people refuse the idea of men being able to suffer from these kinds of things, and how if identity determines if you are capable of suffering then we either need to change or drop the labels.
