I love my 2023 ID4, but I had to struggle a bit because my sales rep did not give me any of these crucial tips, and had to figure them out as I went along. Google searches have been a lifesaver, but wish I had found this video earlier. The worst omission is failure to inform new owners about what to do if the charging plug will not release. It happened to me at a public charging station. Thank you for putting this out there.

Thank you very much for your little videos, which are informative, we are about to buy an ID 4 here at home in Denmark, your data with miels is quite easy to translate to killometer, we are on metric in Europe, our ID 4 has been a demo car at a vw dealer in Germany, where the dealer I work with picks it up for me, with only 14000 km aka 8450 miles, which it has only driven as a test at a dealer, so we have it at a fairly favorable price, your videos are informative, and help an old fool like me, we are about the same age,.... Hi from Boulder, Bob. Thank you so much for the videos, I've listened to this one twice and will listen again. We picked up our 2023 ID.4 on Thursday and we found your info very helpful. You did address climate control but here is a Q: Is there a way to turn the cabin fan completely off? It seems to be on all the time whether in Eco or Comfort or Custom. And, we do not seem able to customize the climate in the Custom mode!? Here's something our sales person did not tell us - just press the "i" button in the cabin to contact VW app support. That enabled us to make me the Primary car user and my husband the Secondary user (instead of Primary and Guest). Then I was able to allow him full access to info on the app. Thanks, again.

First of all, this was awesome - best I have seen!!! I have 30,000 miles on my First Edition.I love it - but I admit it is a work in progress. I have 2 questions. One - how do I set t it so the lights go on inside the car when I open it up? I mean all the lights. I know how to push the overhead button ( but it is dark and half the time I can't find it. How do you set it so these lights always come on when I open the door. By the way - it is a great system when all the lights are on you can find anything - but I can't figure out how to set it to always light up when I open the car door... The second question you might not be able to answer. How do I set it so the beeping when I back up does not continue for the whole time I am backing up?

A very good introduction to the complexity of managing a modern car, electric or not. There's far, far too much to tinker with that can make the experience of the vehicle less than it should be. When it's exclusively done through a touch screen, that's even worse. For example, the radio volume controls - totally invisible in the dark - and the HVAC controls, too. Surely physical knobs and buttons are far more effective. I have a friend who decided against changing his Mk 7 Golf for a Mk 8 Golf because of the controls. VW need to re-think this. Come to think of it, many other manufacturers could too.

Very good tips. I like the auto hold and radio power tip and trip odometer in cockpit, and backup camera washer! FYI latch in charge port is not the only lock holding CCS connector in the car - the CCS connector has an electromechanical latch that locks onto top of charge inlet, too. J1772 connector is only locked in place with car's locking pin. On my 2017 e-Golf pressing the J1772 button or the CCS connector button will not unlock either connector, and J1772 won't even stop charging (e-Golf does not follow J1772 standard in this respect) - I need to unlock the car to get any connector off the car.

I found a pretty cool but obscure ID.4 tip as I was poking around KZbin. If you want your 12V power outlet in the trunk to always be on, so that power is available even when the car is switched off (maybe when you're camping), there is a corresponding fuse in the fuse box that you can move from the switched position to the always on position. It takes just a few seconds. This is apparently a general VW thing, not specific to the ID.4, but works on the ID.4. Of course, you have to be careful not to run down the battery! On a related note, when I was poking around the infotainment system screen, I think I might have seen a setting to keep the 12V battery topped off using the high voltage propulsion battery. If it's what it sounds like, it might help prevent the 12V battery from getting drained. Any idea if it would help in this situation?

It turns out the Energy Management setting is in the phone app under Battery. The app describes this as "Enable high-voltage battery when 12-volt battery is too low to send mobile app commands to the vehicle. Selecting High Voltage battery usage for remote and other operations will impact the vehicle driving range."

I stumbled upon an issue with Qi wireless charging for my phone (Google Pixel 6) in a 2022 ID.4. The wireless charging works just fine, but I was getting repeated alerts on the display saying something like "Wirelessly charging mobile device." This would appear, then go away, then reappear lots of times. I tried moving the phone left and right, inserted all the way, then tried with it moved somewhat toward the rear of the car. None of that worked to make the warnings stop. But finally, I found that turning the phone so the top of the phone display was oriented to the back of the car the warning would appear once and only once in each driving session. In all of these attempts, of course, I had the back of the phone facing down.

An update and suggestion. I finally figured out how to charge my car at Electrify American. It actually pretty simple. Go to the station, know which charger you re using, plug it in, etc. When the charging is done, it disconnects automatically. My suggestion to VW is to have a charging station at each dealer, and have the dealer teach the new owner how to charge, and have that station available when the dealer is open. This would help the average person get over the charge issue as this is the heart of making these electric vehicles doable. The only issue is the heaviness of the charging cable. Not much can be done about that.

Funny Story, Sarah and I went to look at cars today, while we were there the Salesman was very non-presser so he left us alone to look at the cars on our own. While Sarah played in the drivers seat I checked out the back seats. Finally Sarah joined me in the back to see how much leg room there really was with the front all the way back. Well... when it was time to get out of the back my door was child locked. And so was Sarahs, so Sarah reaches over and starts honking the horn, no one comes to help, more horn, no help, more horn still no help (No one in the lot walking around) more horn. I am laughing so hard by this time its a wonder I didn't pee my pants. Finally another Salesman and a couple start checking out the car next to us, Sarah honks some more, they bearly look at us. Sarah then starts knocking on the window and points at the door. Finally the salesman opens the door asking ""Is there a problem?"" I am still laughing like mad and no one is opening my door. When the first Saleman finally shows up he opens the drivers door and says "You can just push the child button lock again to open all the doors." Still laughing like a loon I answer "Yeah, If you know where the button is..." He looked a little sheepish saying "Oh, Guess so.. Its right here" as he pushes the button to unlock my door. Sarah then admits she was playing with the button on the panel not realizing what it did. I am still laughing (but not as hard) as I write this about 6 hours later. So what did you do this weekend??
