Well done. 84 is a score %90+ of guys at the county courses would love to shoot. My best was 85 and it was the putter that wouldn't miss. I've been chasing it ever since and you sir, have inspired me to practice more, stay focused on the shot management, and not let a bad hole wreck your round.

Brutal conditions in the desert. Only played that course once in 2006 and shot my lifetime best round of 76 playing 6700 yards. Started with 190 yard 3 iron to 30 feet, made birdie and managed to keep it going. Happy memories.

Matt from Golf Sidekick put out a similar video where every shot, good and bad, was shown as well as statistics for PGA tour players like greens hit and distance to pin from each location and lie. It's really eye opening to see what real golf looks like for a whole round, and what the stats show, as what we see on TV on weekends really messes up our heads about how even the best players play and what we should expect form ourselves. Knowing what real golf looks like helps us all manage our expectations and lets us enjoy the game, in all its challenges, frustrations, and elation, much more. Thanks for sharing this round with us and keeping it real.

Woooooo more honest content!!!! A question for you Adam, what gap wedges do you have? And when you are chipping around a green. What one do you most commonly use? I'm trying to get out of the habit of bump and running everything within 50m of the green. So want to know what you use and you're so good within a hundred meters and surely have some great knowledge I can learn from
@NotAScratchGolfer
@NotAScratchGolfer Жыл бұрын
Hey! My wedge setup is very bizarre. My set PW is 42°, and my "gap" wedge is a 46° Vokey, which is really a conventional PW loft. To be honest, my best shot with that club is effectively a bump and run. Obviously it has a bit more check on it than using something like a 9 iron, but mentally I'm playing a somewhat similar shot to a bump and run with a 7 or 9 iron. My "sand" wedge is a 53° (which is more like the loft of a conventional weak-lofted gap wedge), and my "lob" wedge is a 57°, which is really just a weak sand wedge. These numbers weren't chosen super strategically by the way - long story.

The worst thing for me was that in 2018 I broke 90 for the first time and then did it 3 more times with a best of 84 and my personal favourite of an 85 of the tips to win a good prize in a competition. I was still inconsistent but got down to 17 handicap. But haven’t shot under 90 in 4 years now and my average score is 98 with a 21 handicap. I actually feel like a more knowledgeable and better golfer now but I am so inconsistent.

You probably have one of the flattest swings with the lowest ball flights I've ever seen but I respect your ability to get the ball in the hole. That's not me taking a shot at you at all btw. Just an observation. The video wasn't what I expected it to be honestly. I thought you might show the side of setting up cameras constantly and what not but I get it now. We don't always shoot good scores. Well duh...lol. It's the perfectly struck driver, iron, chip or putt that keeps bringing us back. Two weeks ago I hit 11/14 fairways. Couldn't miss. Felt like the harder I swung the straighter and farther it went. Didn't make any birdies but only carded an 83. Fast forward to two days ago where I lost 4 balls on different tee shots that were banana slices, something I rarely do. Still managed two birdies on the day with one of them that was nearly my first HIO. That's golf. Enjoyed your video. Sorry for being a little long winded but wanted to comment and say that I also dig the channel name...lol. Keep it in the fairway my man.

No offense taken and glad you liked the video! And I can relate to the rounds you described. The ones I find most confounding are the rounds where you hit the ball well and score poorly and vice versa. I have a video coming up where I hit the ball like dog shit and shot 78 on a hard course. And I'm sure there are loads of 85s on my channel where I felt I played better. Golf is hard! Thanks again for the kind words.

Do you ever get to a point in a round where driver is bad enough that you keep it in the bag? Or just like in this video keep swinging it trying to figure it out? I tend to always pull it out on the holes it can be used no matter how bad I'm hitting it.
@chetranqui
@chetranqui Жыл бұрын
Personally, I'm in my first year of golf... and I have chosen to leave the driver in the bag for a few very specific rounds: I realized that I was only getting it inbounds about 20% of the time, compared to my hybrids (275 yards vs 205 yards) which I could get inbounds 85% of the time... so I stuffed the driver and promised myself that for the next two weeks driver is all I'd be working on. Now that I'm past that spell, driver's solid once more and comes out to play with the rest of his friends. I'm not sure if I'll continue with that judgement in the future or not... I'm doubtful that after this first year my driver will ever get so bad that it's so incredibly obvious, but I do feel like it'd take an awful lot to leave it out altogether. I think the daily decision might be different on not-so-long Par 4s, though. Anything under 380 yards can just as easily be two irons as a driver and wedge. ...and I have a different shot shape with my irons from my driver. ...but yeah, I highly doubt I'll ever leave the driver at home again like I did earlier this year. Not now that I have a base swing that I generally trust. I figure if THAT's gone wrong, likely the rest of my woods and probably hybrids have too and we're just plain in for all sorts of troubles with or without it.
@NotAScratchGolfer
@NotAScratchGolfer Жыл бұрын
Typically I just keep banging away at driver. The problem is that *usually* if my driver is going everywhere, my woods and hybrids will be, too. That leaves me with only a 5-iron to hit off the tee, which carries 170 if - and only if - I hit it well. With that said, I played a few rounds recently during which my 5 wood was consistent and driver wasn't, so I put the driver away. Those rounds will be put up on the channel soon!

I suffer from a problem where all of my woods/hybrids tend to go in sync. So if I'm snapping drivers off the tee, it's very rare that I'lll be able to put a wood or hybrid in play. And my longest iron only carries ~170 when I hit it well. So often I have to just live by the sword/die by the sword. It's a shame!

@NotAScratchGolfer

Yeah, typically when I get fit for irons they recommend cutting down 1/2" or flattening the lie angle by ~2°. I tend to go with the latter option as my swing needs all the help it can get in the speed department, and shortening clubs tends to have an adverse effect on speed.

What KZbin golf are you watching? RIck Shiels shows his poor rounds, as do the Good Good guys. Garret's a very good golfer when he's firing on all cylinders, but he shows his poor rounds too. Some of these guys are excellent golfers, but they certainly aren't showing only their best or their "65s." The Good Good guys do play all OBs and lost balls as lateral hazards but they are very clear about that. It's cool that you aren't a polished golfer but still manage to grind out a score. There's a lot to be learned from that. But some of these other guys are excellent golfers. (Luke Kwon, Cole & Mason (Busta Jack), Zac Radford, Peter Finch, George Bryan, etc.)

1:20 Only because I believe that you are a rule abiding golfer, do I say this. I believe that it is not legal to putt from in front or behind the ball. You must address it to the side. So, when you are tapping in putts by reaching out and raking them toward yourself/the hole, I believe you are breaking that rule. Someone correct me if I'm wrong. That being said, keep the great videos coming.

Somebody else pointed this out in another video and I wasn't sure if it was correct. If so, that's interesting! I genuinely do try to abide by the rules even in casual play - I might as well have an honest handicap if I'm going to play in competition. And obviously in competition I ensure to play completely and unequivocally by the book. Still, I don't think I'm going to refrain from tapping those putts in the way I do. Well you can't just say that about other KZbinrs and not name names. Give examples to give your assertion credibility. Otherwise, it seems like you might be a little envious of others' games. Just trying to stir the pot a little because it's interesting......

well you can just compare a youtubers handicap to the rounds they post. a lot of times they leave out bad rounds.

I can't think of any in particular. Tbh, the only channel I watch religiously is Sidekick, who obviously doesn't do that. I have a ton of respect for the Good Good guys (and similar channels) featuring wicked golf. They practically play a different sport than I do and their content is so slick. I'm just a weekend hacker with a tripod and iMovie. So no hate there. I'm more eye-rolling at content that comes across my home page with a lot of forced/manufactured energy and every video features a shot of a lifetime. Regardless of how "honest" it is or isn't, I just don't find it good content to watch as a golfer.
