They almost got the parabolas right. Weightlessness actually starts prior to the peak of the parabola, this way they are able to have longer periods of zero G and still be safe. Its like throwing a ball up in the air, the ball experiences zero G as soon as you let go of it and that's very similar to what's happening on the plane.

you mentioned preparation for avoiding getting sick. Might I ask, what methods of preparation did you do? For those of us who wish to enjoy one of these flights and know what is the best way to prepare for it
@Sypaka Жыл бұрын
From what I heard, people just get motion sick, because their brain is still trying to figure where is "up" and "down", because it's used to "down" where the gravity is. In Zero-G, all of that mismatches. You can use your feet as a pseudo-"down", if you focus. Also maybe don't eat or drink right before. An empty stomach can't puke. if you are unsure, ask for medicine.
@k1productions87 Жыл бұрын
@@Sypaka establishing a specific orientation actually does help. Its why no one got sick on the Mercury or Gemini flights, because the astronauts were firmly strapped into a single position, and always maintained that orientation. With Apollo, however, not only were there multiple "up" positions in the Command Module, but when you go "down" into the Lunar Module, you are not only upside down, but its connected at a weird turn angle, further throwing things off. Not surprising that one out of every three Apollo astronauts got space sick in the early days
@Sypaka Жыл бұрын
@@k1productions87 Being strapped may be for safety as well. As as they established a fixed point in Zero-G to be DOWN, well it works. With out any fixpoint, you have to make your own and stop thinking in 2D directions. "Down" should be where your body+legs point. not the "Down" of the surroundings.
@k1productions87 Жыл бұрын
@@Sypaka That is why the statistics in Zero G airplanes is considerably more favorable. Some people still get sick, but not nearly the same degree. Most of us recognize what the floor and ceiling of an airplane are, so they remain somewhat constant
@BigJuicyBurger5 жыл бұрын
"Free fall" or zero gravity actually happens way before reaching the peak, as already during the climb, once the flight controls are pushed downwards, there is an acceleration downwards. Veritasium made a good video on this. It is like throwing a bottle filled with content upwards. Once it leaves your hand, even though the bottle is still moving upwards, inside the bottle the contents are weightless.

The explaination was kind of misleading. You are in zero G the moment after the turn is made to go up, all the way until the turn is made to level out after going back down. The feeling of zero G is because the entire time the earth is accelerating your body at just the right rate to feel weightless, and that acceleration matches the trajectory of the flight right after the change in attitude that points the plane up, all the way until it begins to level out after the descent.
