I’ve got one and done range tests, my latest being 280 miles on the M1, and also a near 600 miler up to Scotland. The range is fantastic, all for Model 3 RWD money. Note there’s not much difference between trims, the base model is fully loaded. 6 year Tesla owner- I am certainly not regretting switching over, the car is fantastic. What often isn’t mentioned much is the chassis, it is just right between comfort and stiffness. No roll, very comfortable on long journeys as are the seats (I have the ‘base’ version). I’d disagree with the review there compared to most other cars of this type- try a Sportage which rolls and bounces around much more (my wife has one). I haven’t noticed the brake spongy either although I hardly use the brakes, I use full regen. Insurance is £450. They wanted £1100 for my Model 3 RWD this year. Renault are knocking it out of the park with this car, I can’t believe what a good job they did with it.

For me the SUV tag is a bit misleading. Having seen one in real life it’s actually quite low slung like a large hatchback; certainly looks better than the pictures. Overall I like where Renault are going with EVs. The French government has also created some really generous incentives for EV adoption so even if it’s not a runaway success elsewhere I think Renault has a pretty captive market at home. Also it’s nice to see a car just be a car, to prioritise comfort and ride quality over this ‘sporty’ nonsense which most everyday drivers will only be able to access 2% of the time and the other 98% they’ll wish they could drive across a potholes road without losing the fillings or parallel park without a personal trainer.

Seriously consider it. This thing gets 320 miles all motorway driving, you can get that mileage for about an £8 charge at home. Very smooth, quiet, instant power etc. Just give one a try on a test, you’ll maybe change your view.

I’ve saved over £1400 in fuel costs over the last year switching from a 2 litre diesel Evoque to a Jaguar I-Pace. Plus I don’t have to stand in a smelly petrol station breathing in fumes anymore.
@Whatshisname3462 ай бұрын
If I lived in the UK I’d be the same. The charging infrastructure is so poor and so unregulated that it makes owning a non-Tesla electric car stupidly complicated and expensive if you don’t have access to home charging. This isn’t really the same in countries with the infrastructure, cheaper electricity and better regulation. For me, with the low electricity costs and high fuel costs we have here, my next car will definitely be electric, that said the low cost of public transport and ever improved cycling infrastructure is making the need for a car less relevant every year….. so we’ll see.

It's interesting what reviewers say about steering wheels like this. They same reviewers said that about the Peugeots too, yet I have yet to meet an owner raise any concerns about it. In short, don't trust reviewers, check for yourself.

What is your obsession of comparing to the Model Y? I’ve had one - it’s not a great car. Big screen does not equal good. It equals…big screen. And with regards to blocking the screen - in my usual seating position on a Model Y I couldn’t even see the speed because it was tucked into the top right of the screen - obscured by my arm on the wheel.
@thedreamfactory69642 ай бұрын
Why did you buy one in the first place? The big screen is pretty obvious, even before a test drive. Strange complaint. And only one main complaint…. A big screen.

It is a benchmark, used to pique people's interest but also to see how other cars compare to something they might be familiar with. Reviewers do the same thing when reviewing hatchbacks...They compare them to VW Golfs so viewers have a better idea of the features and proportions of the car in question.

The sunroof is either transparent (see-through) or translucent (lets through diffuse light). It is not opaque because opaque means it doesn’t let light through at all (like a metal roof).

I don’t see the point of these panoramic roofs. I had a hire car with one, didn’t like the feeling of the sun on my head and just closed the blind. I’d much rather a normal sunroof that can be cracked open for a bit of ventilation.

Excellent review; thanks Doug.👍 Had to laugh at your rear door handle comments! This is a sad and all too common example of redesigning the wheel 🛞. Who looked at car door handles , which have worked perfectly well for 60 years plus, and thought ;” Nah , I’ve got a much better solution! Some shitty little plastic flap, that can decapitate your fingers, that you have to press in and then pull out the handle . Brilliant in the winter; what could possibly go wrong?!”. Madness !

All these range tests are driving between 65-70 mph not really practical in the real world where the average speed on the motorway would be a realistic 75-78 mph

Its true my Enyaq 60 goes from 210 miles real world at 50mph with air con and me and some stuff in the boot....to 170 at 75mph and then in peak winter wind...140. This scenics battery range is exactly what should be the base except for pensioner church runners.

I just think the whole car industry needs to stop referring to this class as SUV. There's nothing sports or utilitarian about this class - nobody will in the right mind take this into a field or dirt track. Given the steroidal growth of the car bodies to accomodate everyhing and anything, just rebrand them family cars. The Scenic has always been and will always be a reasonably respectable family car- wasn't it a mini MPV decades ago? Anyway, I digress. I do quite like what's being penned over at Renault with their most recent EVs and does offer viable alternatives to the exceedingly good Korean cars. Might even consider this to replace the latest gen Kona Ultimate when my term ends on my salary sacrifice.

It would not be a French car unless it had at least one completely bonkers element. Step forward the door handles, totally French - stylish and impractical. The sun roof is a wonderful idea though The boot design and the way the rear seats fold down is unforgivably bad. The range is impressive and charging times are fine for me. The price though is hard to take, probably £5-8k too much
@klausschelling81592 ай бұрын
I am German, i drive a French car and I don't think your comment particularly intelligent. You Brits need to stop with the stereotypes about French being "quirky", they are not, or not as much as you spin it. They are great cars.
@justinstephenson93602 ай бұрын
@@klausschelling8159 Sorry but French cars nearly always have one odd element, and have had for decades, at times even the ads for their cars played on this fact. Odd or quirky does not always mean bad, the new R4 (or maybe R5, I forget which) has a baguette basket can anything be more French than that (it is brilliant and daft at the same time), and both are potentially great cars. The new Scenic was so nearly a great car but IMO fails because of stupid door handles and an even sillier boot design. But of course, as a German you have played into your own stereotype by displaying absolute no sense of humour
