I've always said that a remake of Sonic 06 isn't the worst idea. Fix the glitches, take out the interspecies romance, and redo the voice acting, and I think it's a fun concept. Time travel, three different main characters, a pretty menacing bad guy, Sonic dying. There's a decent foundation for a fun Sonic game if they wanted to fix the glaring issues.

i honestly argue that Mephiles in Sonic 06 is also a stand out fight, mostly how in the second fight with him he starts literally hiding in your shadow and you have to figure a way out to lure him out, giving the fight a unique start

teh biggest issue with DMC2's bosses is that unlike other games they NEVER speak, so all story involving them is told in their in-game biographies you unlock after fighting them, so all of bolverk's motivations are only told to you if you read his biographies which, again, only appear after you beat him. So he's a really cool concept, but sadly the game itself wastes him. Especially since he's seems compeltely disconnected from the rest of the main plot (as are most of the bosses but he especially stands out)

I know people will immediately eye roll and dismiss this just cause of that one soft lock and the name but it is simply the case. Sonic 06 as a whole. The Egg Cerberus and Egg Genesis are conceptually phenomenal, the Egg Wyvern already slaps as is. Every rival fight is fun (when Silver says "How about this?" it's your audio que to attack, any other time he's gonna catch you, unless you are REALLY silly the famous soft lock is not a thing that happens). The Mephiles fights slap, the Iblis fights slap, Solaris is unfortunately the usual "turn Super and head straight into it" gameplay loop but the necessity of switching between the 3 hedgehogs spices it up a bit, if refined it could be solid. The soundtrack for every single fight is peak, so is the narrative buildup and level setting. 06 has amazing boss ideas, in "a better game" they would go hard. I'm already an 06 defender so I don't think a better game is required but it wouldn't do no harm that's for sure.

Sonic 06 is a bad game, but its so far from the worst game ever it's past the horizon on the sea of crap. It's not even the worst Sonic game.

@jiblitin1520 I do not think it is a bad game, no, and I'm very confident in defending it. Half the supporting cast has bad controls, bad optimization, unstable build, unrefined features, intrusive loading screens for Town Missions, Blaze's implementation makes no sense, some flawed time travel implementation in the story? Yes, to all of that, I don't think 06 is peak, it clearly isn't. But here's the other side of the coin. Story that is 75% complete epic, knows it and owns it and some of the franchise's most cinematic and dynamic direction and animation. Mephiles is peak, franchise main villain material. The characterization for the characters was insanely good and as far as utilization of the expanded cast goes 06 is to this day the golden standard for the franchise. The lore of 06 is WAAAAAY better than anyone gives it credit for, the culture of Soleanna and its people is surprisingly fleshed out. While naturally more personalized as a positive obviously I find the art direction and redesigns absolute peak, everyone except Tails look the best they've ever looked in this game, especially the main 3 hedgehogs. Peak OST, sound design was alright. The criticism towards voice acting I never understood and level will, the first time the franchise ever saw good voice acting in the games (so no 90s shows that had great performances) was 2013's Sonic Boom and that didn't last long. Before Boom 06 arguably provided the most solid game performances in the series. Industry-wide, laughably mid. Compared to the rest of the series it's literally a positive standout, especially Dan Green (Mephiles), Mike Pollock (Eggman), Jason Griffith (Sonic and Shadow) and Rouge's actress. Good visuals for the time, strong atmosphere and strong tone. Good albeit generic level settings. To this day some of Sonic Team's best level design EVER, arguably some of the best in the genre at large. The multiplayer mode was fun, the DLC a bit bonkers but also fun. The 100% process for 06 was relatively pleasant, the Emblems from the Adventure games return in the form of Tokens and S Ranks are very consistent to get, it's smooth sailing for the most part. No, 06 isn't a bad game cause the internet has overplayed the glitch/bug card (and yes, it is overplayed, playing the game casually rarely breaks it) + Elise kiss + loading screens + Silver soft lock. A game that fumbles half a dozen things but nails like 20 things is not in fact a bad game. It is no coincidence that 06 hate boils down to 5-6 overdone points that are usually repeated at nauseum with no basis, receipts, personal experience or expansion. It is no coincidence that the overwhelming majority of newcomers to the franchise that give 06 a chance get out of it pleasantly surprised and fans of the overall package. 06 haters nowadays pretty much come down to 25-45 year old dudes that either didn't play it and just click the famous "oh yeah 06 bad it sucks" key words or spiteful people that would never like it even if it did everything right to begin with. 06 IS good, it's a solid 7/10. And no, to avoid the inevitable "you're just a fanboy" comments that always come even when I actively criticize the game, 06 is neither the best Sonic game nor my favorite. While I prefer 3D to 2D inherently I find Sonic 1, Sonic 2, Sonic 3 & Knuckles, Sonic 4: Episode II better products and Unleashed and SxS Generations better games than 06. The fact that P-06, the fan remake, is a literal OG vanilla 06 copy paste (literally EVERYTHING is the same and intact) with refined controls and people call it 10/10 and the best Sonic game ever speaks volumes about how good 06 genuinely is.

I disagree with RE6. That boss battle was a bit boring and annoying for me. You had to hit him in a certain spot, then he cocooned up, then he'd burst out and you do it again.
