But make no mistake even that game had alot of issues at launch alongside questionable decisions with forced online connectivity for things that had no reason to do so like the in game currency, krypt and towers of time being online only (and before you mention the real time timers injustice 2 had the same type of mode called the multiverse and that worked perfectly offline) and then you have some questionable roster decisions like having Sektor, Cyrax and Ermac with brand new designs only to be casted aside as NPCs with one being a throwaway in the krypt. Sure MK1 made things worse but let’s not pretend like MK11 was miles better either.

I have played every mainline MK game since the beginning. I dumped hours upon hours into the home console releases and it has been a staple in my gaming journey up through MK11. Even some of the less beloved releases got plenty of playtime. My son and I would go dozens of rounds on MK10 and MK11 just having fun and enjoying the game. MK1 was where it all stopped. Neither of us cared to continue to play it after the first couple of weeks despite forking out for the Gold edition or whatever at launch. It just seems so soulless and corporate now.

It all started with Cyberpunk 2077 releasing a broken game, I don't care if people like it, it's still overhyped crap. Move sets are very limited for each character, game mechanic is boring as they are a complete replica of the two predecessor, create your fatality seems interesting at first but it quicky became too redundant and boring, graphics are a downgrade from deception, and the boss is Cinder 2.0. Sorry, I think Armageddon is one of the worst among the MK fighting games.

Bought this game on the day of release. Noticed right away the sheer lack of content. Played about 1/3 of the story. Got bored. Hate Kameos. Uninstalled and haven't looked back. The story starts off interesting, then goes right back to MK11's story. Also, the fights dont matter. The story unfolds exactly how it is preset to do. You just need to win to progress, but often winning a fight doesn't give that character the upper hand in the story. I don't play Mortal Kombat to fight as Homelander, Peacemaker or Omni-Man. So much for a full reboot. So much for something new and fresh. WB Games is awful. Seem to be out for money and doesn't care about player satisfaction.

The thing that bothers me about Ed boon and Shaolin Monks is he said in that interview he doesn’t think a remaster of that game would be enough. When in reality it would be just fine, loads of new fans who joined with the recent MK games would be eager to play the older ones as as long as they’re polished and enhanced well. WB and NRS seriously just need to get studios like Aspyr or Nightdive to remaster the PS2/ OG Xbox games.

I remember the time when MK4 come out, the developer took a long hiatus before making another MK fighting game (Deadly Alliance). It felt like the franchise had died on that point. MK4 had same combos for all characters, horrible voice acting, Jarek is Kano 2.0 and Shinnok is Shang Tsung 2.0 when he mimics characters. Lui Kang was the most hated character because he always win at every tournament. MK Mythologies and MK Special Forces did not helped the franchise either.

I stuck with MK1 for as long as I could. What broke me was the Chaos reigns DLC. I purchased it for $70 CAD. The story was terrible, I don't like the gender swap of Sektor and Cyrax, Noobs design look weird with his head wear, and the new stages still have no stage fatality. I still play from time to time. I tried Ghost face and some one the other day caught me with an infinite combo using ghost face and a cameo. My health bar went from full to zero and I couldn't do anything but watch my character get juggled around the screen for the match. I was holding block the whole time and nothing could be done lol. The game is broken right now with ghost face. That being said, the combos in this game is too much. a lot of players in this game only learn a large combo and that's all they play with because that's all you need to know. Cameo system has to go. Invasions was a boring grind. Just do a hard reboot. reset and go back to basics. The story is cooked anyways.

I feel like Netherealm have caught themselves in a horrible loop, and WB isnt helping with their horrible practices. Netherealm still has their pedigree, but when it comes to story, it feels like they actually dont know where they really want to go, and they keep rushing things. The original MK timeline was a buildup throughout years. Then they rebooted it, remixed it, and it felt like they found themselves at an impasse to the point they needed to do a timeline skip just to move the story forward. Rebooted it again, felt like they rushed the story again trying to cram all the years of the original timeline into 1 game again, and now we are at this point again. Storywise MK feels like its stuck, and they arent sure where to take it next. And WB hasnt been helping with their overreliance on mtx because they are trying to force it into all their games and its hampering the experience. I used to genuinely enjoy the krypt, but the recentt versions with the 4 different currencies, and needing to do 25+ fatalitiies with each character, and other crazy requirements is just...no. The content Netherealm has been offering looks good, but I think people are voting with their wallet on the decisions that they are continuing to make for the game, and rather than the execs seeing that its those decisions that the community has a problem with. They will get the message wrong, and probably end up just shelving the IP as a whole.

More and more games are flopping due to hefty price tags. More and more stores are closing while even "Dollar" Stores are getting more and more expensive. I was never a huge fighting game guy, but I played my fair share of them in the nineties. Aside from some nostalgia, though, I pretty much lost all interest in them many years ago. It just feels like the ability to move in 3 dimensions was pretty much the last real innovation the genre got; other than that, it's just different variations of button combinations, move animations and finishers, so it just felt like I was playing the same game over and over whether it was Tekken, Mortal Kombat, Street Fighter or anything else. ...all that said, I was under the impression that MK1 was pretty well-loved, so I'm surprised to hear that it's got so many problems.

I think it is generally agreed that M1K has some of the best gameplay in the modern games. I bloody love MK1, because each character has one moveset. They feel more complete. MK1's new storyline is superb too. I don't lean into the kameo system, but at least they tried something new. Tag might have been a better choice. But the rest is brilliant. I hope they do have a new Shaolin Monks style game coming. One like that now would be incredible!

Nothing will ever beat the 3D era of Mortal Kombat. Fun Konquest modes, creating fighters, unlockables, and so many other fun aspects. They used to put effort in their games, especially in their stories. That's why Mortal Kombat Deception is my favorite. They ought to go back to Konquest and elements that made the game fun.

I mean, customization has never truly been part of MK. All we use to get was a main costume and two or three alternate costumes at most. Until MK11 that they suddenly decided to play dress-up, and all of a suddenly everyone has been acting like customization has always been there. But yeah, MK1 was indeed bare-bones when it launched, but the game has objectively been getting better. I get tht a lot of people aren't fans of assist fighters, thus the hate, but that doesn't mean it's unequivocally bad. I mean, this has been the most flexible fighting system in all MK games ever

@ in what other assist game do you call in your assist and your character strikes a pose? None I can think of. In dragonball fighterz you get defensive options to help combat the assist along with mobility. This game you jump you die you stay on the ground and some characters mix you. Blocking just leaves you next to your opponent where you can just poke back and forth or take a risk and get micro duck or d2 spammed.

The idea of having two types of assist moves (summon and ambush) is their attempt to make the game a lil bit fair. Other assist anime fighters that have only ambush attacks are on another level of brokeness... i mean, take DBFZ as an example; the moment you get hit in that game, you'll get stuck in an unskippable 30min cutscene

Rushed. WB rushed the game. They were working on I3 but had to change. Them they where making it a tag game but didn't have enough time to perfect it, so we got kameos. That's why the game is so bare bone, most of the characters move sets feel incomplete. This game was set up to fail by WB

Great Stuff! You can’t put out quick and dirty versions of a game (twice, or three times if you count Arkham Knight) and expect people to dismiss a game based on alleged weaker hardware. MK1 on Switch looks worse than mK11 on the same platform. When people see you cutting corners they assume the very worst.

Was never a fan of the rebooted timeline in 9 going forward but it still felt MK like except the Sindel wipe out revenant crap having Quan Chi being tied to everything but when Shang was back on top in 11 scheming it felt better but then another rebooted timeline way too many changes and the writing just didn't feel as good as the original lore + not enough modes, unfinished and expensive game and then more timeline bullshit from the other rebooted time just made the story even more crazy stupid - just restart it back to basics of the original timeline with fun modes and no guest characters

I haven't even played it. I just now got a PS5 but I have zero interest in getting it. I love the franchise. I quite enjoyed the story for this (I watched it on KZbin). The customization stuff you mentioned just keeps me from bothering with it. MK11 is fun enough, so why bother?

You know, maybe next time you decide to make a video about a game that youre a "diehard fan" of maybe you should consider actually knowing the current state of the game beforehand. people who are actually sticking with the game recognize that its currently in the best state it has been since launch with towers of time being added in months ago. Theyve added a lot of QoL improvements since the DLC and continue to add new changes and moves to the characters. Then you claiming MKX was shaky and MK11 was some peak condition of the game when the community almost unanimously agrees its the other way around. Huge L take.

mean, it's always KP1 and KP2 with these MK games, and that's it. I remember there being a rumor about a second story expansion for MK11 and a KP3, and some time later, it was reported that it was canceled. There was even a leaked clip of the story showing Mileena vs Rain... but idk why the "alleged" cancelation of KP3 pulled so much attention. Not that NRS ever did confirm a KP3 in the first place

They have towers and towers of time modes added now as well as animalities. I haven't played it in months either but we're selling the expansion for half on black Friday so I bought it. Lack of content at launch with no krypt and only boring invasion mode really hurt the game. Story was ok although I liked mk11 better and roster is decent.
