I guess I'm gonna be the one to say it: There's nothing nothing wrong with making a disabled character annoying or less than the most likable. Just because someone is disabled doesn't mean he or she isn't human, they're gonna have flaws, because they're real, they're more than just one characteristic.
@MsRee7133 жыл бұрын
And Gunnar Hansen said that he was going so full method that he forgot that he didn’t need the wheelchair and he would ask people to go get him stuff like a Dr Pepper and people would yell at him like oh there’s nothing wrong with you go get it yourself. He said it was the most satisfying kill that he was looking forward to the whole time especially since he would not be on set anymore after that even for callbacks. Read the book or listen to the audiobook written by and read by Gunnar Hansen himself before his death. You could tell he was incredibly smart even as an English Professor later in life. Carrie's mom doesn't count because she was the actual monster of that movie, never part of team victims. Though for the same reason, the whole movie doesn't really fit the list, because it has the supernatural killer as a tragic protagonist, so of course we'd be more likely to root for the death of her antagonists than for most characters from other movies who - while annoying and maybe not on best terms with the main protagonists - mostly were part of the group of good guys that were threatened by the movies primary villain/menace.

The problem with Franklin is less an issue with TCSM, and more an issue with movies in general. It's sad that the disabled character is annoying, but only due to the lack of representation of disabled people in other films. If disabled people with portrayed more often, it wouldn't be an issue, because realistically not every disabled person is likeable, so a character like Franklin would be more common.

The thing about Franklin being so unlikable is Tobey Hooper told Paul A. I don't find the character so unlikeable, personally, but I can see why Hooper made that directorial choice - if the audience sympathizes too much with him, I think that could have worked against the movie as a whole, since the gruesome murder of a disabled person was (and still is) rather uncommon in films. I totally agree with you. I don't understand how people think they could've survived trying to save the kid that ran into a dead end and with his wife on the other side of the room while zombies were pouring inside from the staircase in front of him. The zombies are dangerous to the point were even a scratch means you are transformed in the next ten seconds. He's not fit enough to throw the zombie in the staircase where a dozen more are just jumping up. She's dumb enough to run after a child that put his safety before the whole safety of the group which were living in that house. He panicked and ran to hide under a bed when adults were literally pulling him to safety. The mother ran after him forgetting about her own children and her husband to go after that kid. Then, she had the audacity to think that they would have a chance even if it meant sacrificing her own husband for a kid who they know for max 1 minute. I think that the only other possible outcomes were ending with a dead husband and kid because Don would be infected in the battle and have to sacrifice himself to being eaten alive downstairs. The kid would die because he wouldn't be able to run away anymore and he wouldn't make it to the boat in time which would mean that she would still be infected by protecting him or by trying to carry him to the boat with a horde was bolting towards their ass. The only reason, you would want him dead would be for the mistake of getting himself infected after managing to survive to tell to his children what really happened. They wouldn't understand because they are just some dumb kids who think that Don killed his wife when he told them there was no possible way they could've survived when they were attacked and went into the death area thinking it would be a nice little trip back home. Here's Nerd Explains saying his opinion on the same thing in his video about the subject from (9;11 to 10;05). And this is the part where the children put all the blame on their mother's death onto Don (16;11 to 16;50). ( kzbin.info/www/bejne/noi9q4yeYtJ_a80 )

@@kiradattei I think it must be more about the fact that he "willingly" got himself infected by kissing her when there was so much protection separating her from the rest of the world. It could also be because he hasn't been able to own his choices and say out loud what he did was right and why he did not save his wife. If he would've shown logic, he would be better but he got too emotional letting his feelings get in the way of things. After his kids asked him what happened, he should have explained in details what happened and how he felt at that particular moment. Maybe people would've seen the other side of the story instead of seeing a falsely accused coward and outcast from his family for having chosen survival over love and a bite wound to the neck.

@@darkangelux_536 Nice you two aren't you. Don was a custard, of the cowardly cowardly verity. No way would my loved one be left to the infected without a fight. The guy didn't even try to save Alice.

@@olliesmith2890 We are talking about the same zombies from 28 days later and even worst. One infected was already on top of the stairs and was about to kill Don if he would've tried to ludge at it. A dozen more jumped up towards her as she screamed. You are a lunatif if you think they had the slightest chance of getting away without dying either from the zombies or the horde outside. If you want to go in a fight, then go ahead. If someone is dooming me to die and with them while I could survive if I let them go. What is better three dead people and two orphans or two dead people and one able to tell the tale. Honestly, I thought about every possible way to save them. Pushing the infected down the stairs and throwing the idle in the staircase to get a bit of time to get them to safety but the probability of survival are of 30% against a threat who can kill with one drop of blood or one scratch. Even with that, as we saw in the movie, infected started to flood the upper floor in a matter of seconds literally climbing their way up. They broke the door when charging through it in 5 seconds. In that situation I would probably die. Don did everything he could've done in a few seconds. Fighting off infected with a weapon then running upstairs leading everyone to an exit. The kid panicked and ran away further in the house dooming someone to get him back. Don had a choice, no reset, no safe files to know what would happen, he made a choice. From his point of view, it must've look a bit like either die together or survive and see your children again.

Also (this being the reason I am probably single) I would have left my wife too in 28 Weeks (mind you I completely loathe this movie and think it should have never been made). He gave her every chance not to get devoured, and she chose some stranger's kid. The rules change when you have a hoard of flesh eaters at your door. I'd save my Mom, but the rest of you would be meat piles because hey...I want to live, so which of us wants it more?

What the F is wrong with you sociopaths?! Franklin is easily the most sympathetic and smartest character in Texas Chainsaw. He is in a old school manual wheelchair dragged into a stupidly dangerous situation by a bunch of morons. His reactions are entirely reasonable given his situation and how little care any of his supposed friends or own Sister show him especially when things start to go bad.

Of course he had a manual wheelchair. You couldn’t afford an electric one in 1974 unless you were a Getty.

Totally, I was just trying to highlight how at the mercy of his friends and Sister he is in this situation and none of them show him much regard or consideration. Not even his Sister when things start to get scary. Honestly their treatment of him basically kills any sympathy I had or could have for any of the other characters. His is actually the ONLY death in the movie I really have sympathy for. So I guess I am the complete opposite of all of these supposed droves that hate him.

I can understand why this film is left out because it is seen more as a science-fiction or thriller film than a horror film. Also, this list tends to focus on horror films where there is a long list of characters that get bumped off rather than one or two. In other words, "The Hollow Man" is more fitting for this type of list than "The Invisible Man." Yet I cannot think of any recent horror film where I hated the antagonist so much. Other versions of this often-told tale revolve around a man who becomes an evil villain as a result of being invisible. This story instead is about a VERY evil man who learns to become invisible, and his maliciousness has NOTHING to do with him becoming invisible. You have to wait the entire movie to see the IM get his comeuppance, but when it happens it is much more satisfying than any of the deaths on this list.

The character of Mrs. Carmody is the reason why I could only watch that movie once. Marcia Gay Harden is an amazing actor and played the role incredibly, but the religious extremism of the character, aside from demanding human sacrifices, I have seen in real life and kinda triggered some deep seeded and unrealized PTSD, to the point where if the world truly did fall apart, the person in question, would most definitely be calling for the brutal murder of an innocent child or children if it meant they would survive while maintaining power/respect.

I dunno, making the disabled person a complete man child doesn't seem like it's a big deal. Just because he's disabled doesn't mean he's guaranteed to be a humbled and kind hearted soul. Anyone who gets angry at that is focusing way too much on how people are different. Just my two cents.

I quite agree; just seems like part of the usual modern day prerogative of finding some social justice issue to whine about at all costs. If it was playing into an unhelpful stereotype then I'd get it, but people in wheelchairs being dicks is not "a thing"; personally if I was disabled I'd actually find it way more offensive that someone was calling this out, as though all disabled people had to be treated with kid gloves because they're so different to the rest of us.

I also find Conrad’s death from the ABC series Revenge satisfying as well. What I don’t find satisfying is seeing the plot twist of the show mentioned in “Worst plot twists of TV shows” videos. I LOVE that plot twist and I think it made the show more interesting. BTW I’m bringing Revenge up because Henry Ceznry plays the patriarch of the Le Do Mos’ and he also starred in Revenge as Conrad Grayson. Love that show but absolutely despise his character. He’s an evil and manipulative bastard and he also does this stupid half-whisper when he tries to sound threatening. I watched that show with my mom from episode 1 until the finale, (we both got hooked on it after the Pilot), but we both despised this man.

I didn't have a problem with Don in 28 weeks later. I even understand why he did what he did. That little boy was the reason for the "zombies" even found them in the first place, her refusal to leave without the kid put them in even more danger once the house was overrun. Fight or flight kicks in and had Don stayed to help his wife, he'd be dead and as we found out, she would have survived. He didn't really lie to his kids about him seeing her die, because it was the only logical thing to jump to after knowing she didn't make it out of the house. He knew he had two children out there still and him staying behind only to die, wouldn't have made much sense to him.
