I knew you could do it! Took a bit, but, hey, I'd probably take WAY long to find it myself. :P I especially love when you throw in whatever you just saw into the middle of your sentence without missing a beat, like "Now that we're in the center of the galaxy, we can look at stuff like--whatever THIS thing is!" (sudden random nebula). XD I don't know why, that just cracked me up. Also trying to figure out Saggitarius A's gender. (laugh)

hey anton, love from india....can you make a video in which you explain how to visualise right ascension and declination of a star standing at surface of earth? i read it in my astronomy class with set of definition but hard to visualise in a night sky

I've done this before and it would probably take me 2 minutes to do, because of the magnitude of the black hole being so low.

Cool. I feel like if you could move this fast in space you could always find it reasonably quickly though, even without time sped up or distance to Earth noted. And by reasonably quickly I mean hours, days, maybe even weeks, but not years. Random thought- darting around at higher than light speed like this, I guess you could pass in front of a distant star, then move a little farther away and check out the shadow you cast doing it. something to do if you get bored of searching for the day. lol

How large is the accretion disk around Sgr A*? Google says the diameter of its event horizon is 14 million miles, or about .15 AU, and I think I read somewhere that its accretion disk is about 3000× that size, or 450 AU, which would be 9-12× farther out than Pluto from the Sun. Imagine that... Can anyone confirm that ballparking?

You should do a video on Betelgeuse and Red Giants. Why some stars don't go to the red giant phase and why others do.
@robinchesterfield42
@robinchesterfield42 8 жыл бұрын
Basically, as I understand it, it's down to the star's original size. Smallish-medium sized stars, like our Sun, will go red giant, then the center will become a very small, very dense white dwarf. Stars that start out larger will explode as a supernova while the center squishes down into an even smaller and denser neutron star, and REALLY big stars explode in _hyper_novas and leave behind the ultimate in small and density--black holes. Also, some stars GET huge when they die, and others START huge. Like, blue supergiants. Rigel must still be a fairly new star 'cos it's so hot, but it's gigantic. Not as big as Betelgeuse, but... Meanwhile, what do the stars _smaller_ than our sun, aka mainly red dwarfs, do when they die? We don't know because _none of them have died yet_. It's estimated that they might be able to live TRILLIONS of years. That's trillion with a T. The universe itself is "only" around 13.6 _billion_. If you wanna invest in _really_ long-term real estate, put your planet around one of those!

the Stars in the centre no iluminate the nebula?
@lucsei
@lucsei 8 жыл бұрын
Eso es porque ese tipo de nebulosas absorben la mayor parte de la luz a su alrededor en lugar de reflejarla/That's because that kind of nebula absorbs most of the light around it instead of reflecting it.

Yesterday i was flying in this game and i have found a Galaxy that has White dust and in the center of it Space was White. I wonder if there are intelligent life forms there, thinking that Space is not Black but White. Do exist Places in the universe where Space looks Green or Red or even Pink, or every color else or even multicolor?
@Olivia-ot6up

Probably not, because those parts are dust. Maybe a dull red is the brightest color you'd get in a super old galaxy, but I don't know.

@RetroOkamii
@RetroOkamii 8 жыл бұрын
That wouldn't be impossible actually! At least not impossible to find the center of the observable universe in the game, you can go to the edge where it's just black and no galaxies render, calculate the circumference and find the center based off that, after doing a ton of napkin math to find the center point of the circumference you'll find out Space Engine actually hid something rather amazing in the center of the universe on their game! It's a life baring planet that actually has city lights at night time and orbits in the safe region from it's parent star! It's called Earth. ;)

No, the hole would die immediately of a second. Hawking radiation would kill it immediately. You would fall into the black hole, but be cut off, so you'd be half a person.
