I love the fact of how perfect the camerawork is, only moving to enhance the number, but letting you see Gwen being her glorious self. If done today, there would be tons of editing and camera angles, with so much busyness one would miss the essence of the performance.

Fosse's choreography was spectacular, Gwen's dancing & singing, sublime. Tab does more than just sit there, his reaction of not sure what to make of her are pivotal. He also moves her skirt & capris out of the way of Gwen's dancing very subtlety. 😊

Josefin Soderlund All that rounded shoulder, slinky jazzy body language is the trademark of Bob Fosse. Who met Gwen Vernon while choreographing the Broadway version of this show, and married her a few years later. The dance, the black lace, the voice, the red hair, and the LAUGH………she was the devil in female form! What’s really cool is that Gwen stayed active in entertainment up through to the early eighties. She had a wonderful cameo on MASH, and danced with Debbie Allen on Fame.

Oh my gosh! This movie was on KTLA channel 5 in Los Angeles every afternoon for a week! We’d run, literally, home from the school bus, to watch BEFORE doing homework. And our mom ok’d that. By the end of the week, we knew every song and dance. Still one of my favorite movies 55 years later!💕

This is a pure classic. Fosse's choreography is totally original, and his muse Verdon is - irresistible! And she can sing and act, too, while slinkily executing all the weird Fosse moves. He was at his best in Pajama Game. Later he simply became - unfortunately, corrupted. His purity in the fifties was his best work.

Terrific performance par excellence! Chroreography was great! I wonder how many takes this scene went through to make it seem almost flawless! Gwen Verdon was a stunner and so was Tab Hunter who fits perfectly for the role. An classic example of Hollywood filmmaking at its finest.

When I was very young, one of the local TV stations would have a movie they would repeat through the week. That was how I was introduced to this musical and my parents also had the sound track record. It remains one of my favourite musicals both stage and movie.

@@jamesduggan7200 ...i say unique in that " a regular "Joe" sells (almost) his soul to the devil to become a young sports figure, only to have the devils messenger, in the shape of a temptress , challenged (to get the job done), and become "two lost souls", with a righteous ending. Sports + musical + fantasy = unique.

I keep rewatching this number. I'm addicted to it. Their timing together was fantastic, almost like me and my Shaddow. That's how perfect they dance this number.😍🤩
