I live in Honolulu and got to meet Marty in the 70s and he invited me to drink coffee with him before he went on stage. I found him to be very humorous and humble. I thank you, this video reminds me of that special time.

I played rock before entering the military and switched to country while on Okinawa. The leader of the band I was in heard me sing a little and had me listen to Marty's "The Master's Call". I was hooked on Marty ever since. One of the first I did was "Don't Worry 'bout Me". I do some of his songs with my band, including, of course, El Paso. I got to see him in concert at a race track about four months before he passed. It was an outside gig and the stage was surriunded by a rope barrier. I take lots of pictures but the security wouldn't let me get as close as I wanted. I went around the stage taking pics and was on stage right when for some reason I yelled "Hey, Marty!" He saw I wanted to take a picture and he actually stopped to pose for me. It is my favorite. I sent all the pictures to his children, Ronnie and Janet. I got a really nice letter back thanking me. A lot of folks love his songs and I get requests for something, anything by him whernever we play. I'll post them on Facebook again so all his fans can reminice.

He used to rehearse for his night club performances on my family's porch in Avondale, Arizona. My oldest brother, JIM FARMER, played Steel Guitar on Marty's early records. He shared a life-long career with Marty. They were inseparable.

At 73 years old I grew up listening to Marty. Early on I listened to his Songs of the Islands. (My father’s albums).Hard to beat those songs. Dad served in the Solomon Islands at the same time Marty was there during WW2. I love everything Marty did. I think some his best work was the ‘El Paso trilogy’. ‘El Paso City’ and the ‘story of Falina’ tied together with ‘El Paso’ is pure genius in storytelling. This is just BS. Marty's band members stayed with him more than any other star. These member were with him from the beginning till the end except for Sykes who left in the 79;s: Don Winters (back up vocals and guitar), Bobby Sykes (acoustic guitar), Jack Pruett (electric guitar). He had 3 different pedal steel players in the 50's, 60's and 70's. Same with drummers and bass players.

I only knew of three steel players he ever had during his whole career, as full time band members. Those three Steel Players names were: #1 Jim Farmer (my oldest brother) # 2 Bill Johnson #3, "KATZ", who was with Marty at his last Concert. Yes, my brother, JIM FARMER, played Steel Guitar on MARTY'S EARLY RECORDS, a couple of which were: I'll GO ON ALONE, SINGING THE BLUES.... Jim was with Marty in the business from the beginning until Marty's untimely passing. They were inseparable! They shared a life-long career together. After Marty passed, Ronnie worked with Marty's band for a short time, and yes, Sykes was still around before & after Marty passed away. The word I got from Jim Farmer, the man who knew Marty better than anyone, except his immediate family, was that Sykes was boozed up on the bus, got mouthy, so Ronnie fired Sykes, put him off the bus. I love Marty's songs since I was young, as a matter of fact he was my most favorite county singer then until now. I saw his concert on tv before he passed and it was pretty amazing . Loved him, his music and sound above all his voice. His kids should defend him, he only tried to protect them. I remember one night in late 70's he was playing at the Grand Ole' Opry and it was packed, his time was up for them to close for the night, but they wanted him to keep playing and singing....finally the stage mgr. said they would have to call Roy Acuff to get that special permission.... that was done...and Roy Acuff came back and said "Let him play, we are all loving it".....and Marty played until he was exhausted and he stated then, "I gotta go"....I am so tired. Thank the great ones Robbins and Acuff. God rest their souls.

I’m kinda surprised there was no mention of Marty growing up in Glendale, AZ. In the 90’s there was a push by the city big wigs to rename Grand Avenue (the Main thoroughfare through town) to Marty Robbins Lane. Many of Marty’s song mention AZ or AZ cities. His song “Ride Cowboy Ride” mentions 5 AZ cites. I always get chocked up when I hear Marty’s tribute to the heroes at the Alamo with his song ‘Ballad of the Alamo’. Love his song writing and his voice was one of the smoothest baritone voices of all time. 👍🏼 🎤 🎶 ❤😁

I never had a lot of time with my daddy. My mother never enjoyed music like he did but he was hurt in the coal mines and he was always in pain. However he did inspire my love of music. Marty was someone he admired as well as Slim Whitman. El Paso is my favorite but I guess his hymns are my favorite. I admire his commitment and faithfulness to his family.

My brother and sisters spotted Marty Robbins walking through the terminal at the Old Stapleton Airport in Denver. My brother said “Hey, there’s Marty Robbins right there!” They all ran up to him - he stopped & smiled; then gave that trademark little laugh saying “Hey, you recognized me. How nice is that?” He engaged in a nice conversation with them and wished them a fun trip in Mexico. They will never forget how cordial and sincerely loving a man he was. They all remember Marty Robbins as being the greatest, friendliest, and grateful man. So I believe this video to be pure BS. - Marty Robbins was nice to everybody and so grateful for his success. He was so thin and fit - how does a happy person like that have three heart attacks? I ask. I never met Marty Robbins, but to this day, he is one of my favorite country western singers ride along with Merle Haggard, George Jones, Johnny Cash, Waylon Jennings, George Strait. Marty Robbins is the best in the midst of all these. It’s too bad he died so young.

The Opry was real Country Music & they were real serious bout it then NOT like this fake so-called country now! But Marty didn't let it slow him down & he would still come back but he wasnt a regular like the others when he was able. The Opry had to make sure he was the last one on stage because Marty would not stop singing & he would keep singing til 2 or 3 o'clock in the morning & they had to practice just make him get off the stage. If you was one that went you definitely got your money's worth that's for sure.

He was in a country star's band for 8.5 years and then the star decided to fire his whole band and release a Disco album.
